Erasmus James-DL- Vikings Sep. 17 - 6:38 pm et

DE Erasmus James left in the fourth quarter with a left knee injury.

James, who said afterward that it felt like a mild sprain, is reportedly scheduled for an MRI Monday.

I don't know why anyone would be upset (from a Fantasy perspective), because he didn't even have a tackle in 2 games. Good riddance.

I thought he had a couple solos against the Skins. Regardless, I watched that game closely, and James played a very solid game. He did his job in run support and he brought a lot of pressure and took some double teaming. To me, he looked better than Udeze.

Nevertheless, my boy Ray Edwards is getting closer to strutting his stuff.

It will be interesting to see when he gets in there. Guessing Edwards plays Nickel downs at least initially? Have to wait and see if Childress says anything, although if this pre and regular season is any indication he won't be saying much.

Have any inside ifo you want to share on this guy? I haven't heard a lot about him.

Defensive end Erasmus James is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. James suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of the Vikings’ 16-13 overtime win against the Carolina Panthers. Ray Edwards and Darrion Scott saw increased time in the defensive line rotation when James limped off the field. “He had a great training camp and I’m sorry to see that happen. Unfortunately, that’s the nature of this game and that’s the tough part of this game,” head coach Brad Childress said. “It’s the first training camp that he’s been through extensively and you could see him coming and getting better and better every day, playing the run and playing the pass. He put himself in position with the hard work and the effort in the off-season.” James was still exploring surgery options on Monday afternoon, according to Childress. “He is making plans right now on where and when that will occur,” Childress said. “Typically you rehab those for a couple weeks and then do the procedure.” Childress said the team would make a decision in the next 48 hours on whether or not they will look on the free-agent market for a defensive end, look into potential trades or simply use Edwards, Scott or another player currently on the roster. James is the fourth player lost to injury this season. Linebacker Chad Greenway, cornerback Dovonte Edwards

He was very good at Purdue. Was considered one of the top DE's in this years class. Has had some problems in the past with his effort. Not sure if he has gotten the message, but seeing how Childress has run the team so far, the kid wouldn't be seeing the field at all if he wasn't putting forth effort. Vikes picked him in the 4th round I think?

Thanks for the info. Saw this when I was putting James on IR.(KFFL) Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings DL Erasmus James (knee) is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. James will rehab the injury for about two weeks and then will undergo season-ending surgery on his knee. Head coach Brad Childress has not made it clear as to how James will be replaced. Rookie DL Ray Edwards may start at James' position of right end or the team could move DL Kenechi Udeze from left end to right end and start DL Darrion Scott at left end.Looks like a wait and see as to who is where.

Also, as for the starter at right defensive end, Darrion Scott saw a few plays at that spot. However, Kenechi Udeze also shifted to the right side and Scott took over at left end. An educated guess is that Udeze will start at right end and Scott on the left. Udeze has a better chance of getting blindside pressure on Bears quarterback Rex Grossman.

I read Childress hasn't and probably isn't going to announce his decision on the starting DE. He did go with Edwards in the 4th quarter after James went down, but that doesn't guarantee anything.

DE Udeze Changes Sides, DE D. Scott To Start

Marcus R. Fuller, St. Paul Pioneer Press - [Full Article]

The Vikings will miss DE Erasmus James, but they expect DE Kenechi Udeze, DE Darrion Scott and DE Ray Edwards to fill the void. Wednesday Udeze moved to the right spot to replace James. Scott, usually the first defensive end off the bench, moved into Udeze's old spot on the left side. That leaves Edwards with a new role as the primary backup.

Thanks for posting. Maybe I'm stubborn, or maybe I have the right feel for Edwards, but I think his playmaking ability still makes him a viable and sneaky start this weekend. In my Edwards Sleeper Thread I say I'm starting him over Alex Brown. I'm struggling with that decision. Brown is no world beater. I think Udeze's move hurts him a little. He'll face stronger tackles.

Meh, I'm staying away from this DL this week.

frak.....

Well..not much from Udeze or Ray..anyone see the game and have an update?
Edwards has had mental blunders two weeks in a row. Last week he gave up on a play believing he heard the whistle. This week he failed to take the field leaving Minny with 10 on D. Patience required here. Scott got the start, played most of the game, and was suitable. His sack was a coverage sack. Glad I stayed away. The lackluster play from Udeze and Scott could create more opportunities for Edwards, but his focus is an issue right now.

I really need a DE to step up for me now that I've lost Kearse and I keep hoping Udeze will but I'm not very optimistic right now.

Scott almost got another sack on the very next play too.
