DeAngelo Williams (1 Viewer)

I'm half tempted to cut DWill in a redraft, but once i do he will be healed by jesus, and will run for 1000 yards and 8 tds the rest of this year.

....at least thats how it seems for me this year.

My draft from this past year

QB. Brees

RB. Matthews

RB. D. Williams

WR. R. Moss

WR. D. Bowe

WR. TJ Housh

TE Finley

......POOOOOPPPPPP

14 carries for 29 yds last game. 1 td on the year. Not inspired to start this guy, even over Lynch....if D Will is out.
DeAngelo Williams has missed 3 games during Jonathan Stewart's career. In those games, Stewart has 451 rushing yards, 22 receiving yards, and 3 TDs. If you'd like to include week 15 last year where Williams left the game after only 6 carries, Stewart has 560 rushing yards, 36 receiving yards, and 5 total TDs when DeAngelo is out of the picture.

If Williams doesn't play I suggest you start Stewart.
I'm puzzled by this line of thinking. This isn't last year. If people were considering benching DeAngelo this year, why does Stewart get must-start billing? The Carolina running game isn't as good as it was last season. Last season DeAngelo was RB8 in terms of PPG. This year he's RB29 so far. Both RB's averaged over 5.0 ypc last year. This year DeAngelo has dropped off a full yard per carry (down to 4.15 ypc) while Stewart has managed only 2.96 ypc. They've combined for 100+ rushing yards only once this season...107 yards against the Saints who were ranked 24th in rushing defense at the time. By this time last season they had combined for (2) 100+ yard games and a 267 yard game against TB.

Last week, with Moore actually putting up some yards through the air, Williams and Stewart still only combined for 73 yards...on 33 carries. And the 49'ers ranked 14th against the run. How many carries do you all see Stewart getting this weekend against the 15th ranked Rams? How certain are we that Moore performs in week 8 like he did in week 7? Or is he going to regress and play like he was earlier in the season? Do you think any Carolina RB is going to approach 20-25 carries if Moore regresses? There just won't be enough sustained drives if that happens. And the Rams aren't slouches at putting pressure on QB's this year.

I just don't see Stewart as a must start unless you really have mediocre choices at RB. Could Stewart pop for a big game? Sure, it's possible. But that's exactly what we've been saying about DeAngelo every week this season.

I own both DeAngelo and Stewart. If DeAngelo isn't ruled out, I won't be starting either of them. And even if DeAngelo is ruled out, I'll still be thinking long and hard about my other RB options this week. There's just something wrong with the Carolina running game this year, and it isn't that the RB's have been splitting carries.
I was simply pointing out that when Stewart gets the opportunity to be the featured back and hammer on a defense for four quarters he produces large quantities of fantasy points. He hasn't had that opportunity in 2010, yet.The Panthers have been using a 3 RB rotation to the detriment of each player's fantasy value. My line of thinking is this: When you take away one of those pieces (via DeAngelo Williams injury), Jonathan Stewart becomes the featured back without another legitimate player to take significant touches away. Rocket science, right?

The difference so far for DeAngelo in 2010 is that he has had another player stealing carries. The Panthers have also played the majority of their season with a rookie QB and their star WR injured. Matt Moore is the starter now and Steve Smith is back in the lineup. All positives for Carolina's offense.

In Stewart's starts last season he had 27, 30, and 16 touches respectively. He also had 27 touches in the game against Minnesota. The stats from those games are referenced in the post you quoted. I'm not benching a player of Stewart's caliber against the Rams if he's in line for 20+ touches, and he will be if Williams doesn't play.
30 rushing yards for Stewart and there's only 9:00 minutes left in the game. And Goodsen hasn't been stealing that many touches over the last couple of weeks.

The point is this...

Even modest numbers of carries produced in that offense last year. It wasn't just Stewart. You combined their numbers every week and you had studly RB production. DeAngelo was RB8 SHARING touches with Stewart. So it was predictable that Stewart would put up good stats (as far as totals) when he got more touches.

But this season, neither RB is producing regardless of how many touches they are getting. Look at Stewart's ypc from last week. He had a better ypc than DeAngelo, but look at how poor it was.

Stewart's ypc this season isn't low because he hasn't had the touches. It's because the blocking has been suspect. How anyone thinks him getting the starting nod somehow fixes that or makes it irrelavent is lost on me.

This week was predictable. DeAngelo (or Stewart's lack of touches) was not the problem.

When you're holding 40% of a turd, being offered the other 60% isn't really what I call upside.
BS. Williams has produced with limited carries and Stewart hasn't. If Dwill had gotten 20+ carries a game the running game would be decent to good. wk3: 64 yards on 10 carries

wk4: 86 yards and a TD on 13 carries

wk5: 51 yards on 12 carries

weeks 1 and 2 were mediocre games that would have been decent if he got enough carries. Only wk 6 against SF was a total stinker.

I agree with most else except that Stewart isn't the problem. Anyone who averages 2.8 for the year and 2.1 for two straight games while the other RB is averaging over 4 ypc on the year and averaged well over 5 ypc for a three week stretch with no QB should take some of the blame.

Williams did not practice today according to Darin Gantt.daringantt Darin Gantt Still no DeAngelo Williams (foot) for Panthers in practice. LB Dan Connor (hip) limited.
Wonder when we will find out what the injury is? They have given no indication at all what we are looking at.

I dunno can we start Jonathan Stewart even if he is the #1RB this weekend?
On the bright side, Stewart's third-best YPC game of the season came in the first meeting against the Saints. On the down side, he only averaged 3.0 YPC.

I've heard some things thru emails and phone calls at the radio network which I am employed the there is some speculation of the dreaded LisFranc.Again just speculation, and until further details come out...who knows?ETA: He is playing my Saints and I have him and Jstew on my horrible squad, so I am keeping a hard look at this.

Chester Taylor is probably a better start this week. Stewart completely sucks this year and doesn't seem willing to put any of the blame on himself.

Keep the info coming. Even if it's just speculation it's much appreciated.

I hope Williams is good to go this week. I don't want a reason to start Stewart.
The sportscaster guy on tv said tonight that Williams will be sidelined this weekend against the Saints due to his sprained foot (according to John Fox). I don't know if he is correct or not, but that is what he said.

I have the opportunity to start Stewart vs N.O. but I'm not.

I would rather put both OAK backs in the lineup, and I am.

As a Stewart owner I really should be happy about him getting another chance to start. Sucks that I'm not.
Trusted him last week and was lucky it didn't cost me the win.Won't make that mistake again. Which means he will go off this week.I hope so, would love to him to get just a hint of value to trade him to the Dwill owner.

From RotoWorld:

The Gaston Gazette's Steve Reed reports that DeAngelo Williams (foot) will be held out again this week versus the Saints.

Williams is aiming for a return next week at Tampa Bay. Jonathan Stewart will draw a second straight start against a Saints defense allowing the 12th-most fantasy points to opposing backs. Considering the Panthers' run-blocking woes and Stewart's 2.8 yards per carry average, he's only a RB2 option this week. Unless Stewart breaks out, Williams is a lock to return to the feature back role.

:goodposting: I heard that on the news last night too.

I thought Stewart would be a Top 10 RB last week.I say he'll be a Top 50 RB this week.Maybe.
Hopefully he will have a better game this Sunday. The offensive line needs to play better as well. It's too bad Otah hasn't played this season. Usually the Panthers show up to play against New Orleans, so I hope that trend continues.

I hesitate to say this but it's hard for me to imagine him being much worse. I can't blame all of this on the offensive line or the shaky QB play. Stewart isn't making anything happen. I realize he's not a shifty RB but can't he at least fall forward for two yards once in awhile?

This situation is so frustrating. I started Stewart with confidence last week, and I am reluctant to start him again. But I have Pierre Thomas's slot to fill, so I may be forced to roll with him again.

I understand what you are saying. I hope he hasn't gotten gun shy of hurting his foot again. I remember his rookie season he was paranoid at the beginning of the season of hurting his toe again, and then finally got it out of his head. It's going to be a cool and pretty day this Sunday in Charlotte. The field should be in good shape for running. I hope he takes advantage of his opportunity. If the Panthers don't get down early, hopefully they will try to play ball control with the Saints with the run game (if they are having success on the ground). Usually they have a good game plan for the Saints, but sometimes there are games where their play calling is just awful.

I have Jackson on bye and with limited options available on the WW I may be forced to start him too.

I will add for as bad as the Panthers have been this year, their defense has been much better than the offense. Unfortunately the defense is on the field a lot, but if the offense could just get it together, the cats might be able to win some more games.

I have had an offer for Addai out to the DWill owner all week. Nothing yet. I expect it to be declined.

If I could have told you at the beginning of the year that I wouldn't be able to trade Stewart in a starting role for an injured Addai with no timetable for return, you'd have thought I was freaking crazy. What a weird year this has been for running games.

just a gut feeling, but he has at least one td this week.
I'm getting the same feeling seeing most who played him last week will be sitting him this week. I sat Blount for him last week and still snuck out a win. I don't know if I have the balls to do it again.

On one team I drafted D Will, Stewart, Beanie, THT, Donald Brown and Hillis.

Last week I thought I had the perfect storm of opportunity:

Stewart

Beanie

D. Brown

What a disaster!

Anything else on this speculation? Still just speculation?

After jstew disappointing me week after week.. I just dropped him. My opponent used his claim to pick him up and he's starting him against me...lol. he's bound to go off.

This is the kind of info that is useful for guys like him. This is something the fantasy gods would make happen. :lmao:I'm right on the fence between Stewart and Ryan Mathews right now. The player I don't use gets cut to make room for me to handcuff Toby to ADP. Choices, choices.

DeAngelo has 55 points as the starter.

Stewart has 39 points as the backup.

Are you talking for Dynasty or redraft?

Redraft. Don't get me wrong, I'm not doing backflips at the thought of putting either guy into my lineup, but I at least see a very small upside with DeAngelo.

Assuming Williams comes back next week like he said he hopes to this is possibly Stewart's last chance to regain value in redraft leagues. If he stinks it up again, I'm not sure even a Williams owner would want him as a handcuff.

Any further updates/news on DeAngelo's foot injury?

I missed my opportunity to get Ronnie Brown for him a week ago. The window on trading him to the homers in my league or the guy that had him in '08 is closing REALLY fast. He's a real bummer to own this year. The QB situation has taken a further turn for the worse and I'm not sure when Otah is going to return... Is DWill going to have any FF impact in the next 6-7 weeks... ugh...

"Coach John Fox provided no update on DeAngelo Williams' (foot) status following Sunday's loss to the Saints. With Jonathan Stewart (concussion) possibly sidelined, Williams' sprained foot is back in the spotlight. He has missed the last two games, but reportedly has been targeting Week 10 for his return all along. If active, Williams would be set for a heavy workload against the Bucs."

"Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald noted that DeAngelo Williams (foot) had shed his boot and was walking without a limp on Monday.

Coach John Fox offered only that Williams was "day to day." Williams has been aiming for a Week 10 return, and this is a sign that he may have a chance to practice before the weekend. Check back Wednesday for the Panthers' first practice report of the week."

Good news, Deangelo is off the boot and no longer limps. Bad news, Cluasen, Stewart and jeff otah IR makes him useless, Davis won't even play for the panthers off practice squad! That's sad... No hope for deangelo William espeically when stewart returns to time share next week

DeAngelo is only a flex play now. A RB3 at best. You could do worse since there are so many RBBC out there and if DeAngelo suits up he will only share carries with Woodson.

From Rotoworld:

"ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that DeAngelo Williams (foot) is expected to return in Week 11 against Baltimore.

Mike Goodson will get the Week 10 start at Tampa Bay, but Williams will retake his job versus the Ravens the following Sunday. While the Panthers don't get a truly favorable running-game matchup until Week 15 against Arizona, Williams should be picked up if he's been dropped in fantasy leagues. He'll return in the feature back role for the final six weeks of the fantasy season."
