Dear FBG Staff: BE BOLD! (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
First off, a clarification that this is NOT meant to be a negative post. I love me some FBG and this remains my "go to" site for FF thoughts/opinions/analysis (as much for the boards as for the staff stuff).

Now for some constructive criticism. Whoever is responsible for the Daily Updates...BE BOLD!! The news is great, but I'm talking about the "Our View" follow-up to each news item. These have been way too vanilla the past couple years.

Is it really a stretch to say: "Pierre Garcon may not play this week. Without Garcon in the lineup it's difficult to predict where the football will be distributed on Sunday. Guys like Josh Morgan, Leonard Hankerson, Santana Moss, Fred Davis, and Aldrick Robinson could be used more against the Bengals."

Maybe a little obvious.

I totally understand that you can't predict the future, but go ahead and make a choice. "Pierre Garcon is out. Our money is on Aldrick Robinson to step up and have a big game in his place." (Or whatever it is YOU think.)

Now, perhaps you consider it necessary to "dumb down" (for lack of a better phrase) the opinions so you don't have all the casual FF'ers start Robinson and then be furious that they were given bad advice ("why do I pay you this subscription fee for bad information?!"). But let's be realistic, the average guy who is (a) paying FBG for the service, and (b) taking the time to read the daily emails, is PROBABLY savvy enough to recognize that opinions and projections are just that...they're not guarantees.

And please don't get me started on "rankings". FBG is nowhere near as bad as most "mainstream" sites (who offer such preseason nuggets as "we recommend you wait to take Calvin Johnson until the second round, he's a great bargain there"...maybe an extreme example, but you all know what I'm talking about).

What sparked this thread in the first place? Not to give away paid content (just this once!), but the "Our View" on Trent Richardson today = "Richardson was able to abuse the banged up Bengals defense, but will have a tougher contest this week against the Bills. We like him as a RB2 for your fantasy team this week."

And when one checks the weekly cheatsheets...guess who is the #1 ranked RB this week for both standard and PPR scoring?

Yep...I BET you like Richardson as a RB2 (and even better as an RB3!). But if you're going to rank a guy #1 overall, go ahead and be bold and say "we like him as a RB1 and possibly THE RB1 this week." :boxing:

Again, not trying to be critical. I love you guys and it's because of this love that I'm telling you it's OKAY to call your shot. We won't lose any respect for you if Richardson ends up being the #12 RB this week. It's okay. No one EXPECTS your predictions to be 100% accurate. But I'll respect you even more if you go out on a limb and make a gut prediction. I may agree or disagree, but I'll feel good that I'm reading an expert's true opinion rather than something vanilla written for the masses.

Just my thoughts. Keep up the great work!!

I remember reading that comment about Wash post Garcon. I thought is was a spot on description of the Washington WR corps without Garcon. :shrug:If you want bold, become a Hawk!:screech:

Thought they have the names of the individual staff writing each article. Meaning you get several opinions. Read who you like.

Just about every RB or WR is a RB2 with upside or a WR2 with upside.

I've seen the phrase "lost a step" thrown around waaay too loosely in those FBG e-mails.

Basically, just read it for the news and totally ignore the "our view". I recall last year after week 1 or 2, Tolbert was clearly the RB to own in the SD backfield.

Experience shows this is probably not the case. Let's be realistic, the guy who's running the huge fantasy football site with thousands of paying subscribers is PROBABLY savvy enough to know what kind of emails attract and retain customers and which don't.

Actually, he needs to step aside and let Jacquiz on the field.

have you ever heard of Sigmund Bloom?

He is always Bold, and his 2nd opinion projections are part of the staff.

I love his viewpoint and love to compare the rest fo the staff with him and forces me to think about his rankings v their ranking..

imho this place has a great blend of common sense and guts...
