Deciding whether or not to get a tattoo (1 Viewer)

If you're "deciding", don't do it. Don't do it unless you're absolutely convinced you want a decal permanently attached to your body.

Pretty sure the average income/wealth of the non-tatted is far higher than the tatted and that's after taking into account the entire nba, mlb, and nfl and every single rockstar.

So only do it if you want to lower your wealth

Will you be painting your toenails also?

Twice I went to a tatoo parlors intent on getting a tattoo. (once on vacation in Ft Lauderdale, and once on vacation in Vegas). Both times I left because I couldn't find anything I wanted to live with for the rest of my life.
i have done the same thing
This needs to be decided before you go. Find what you want and bring a printed copy. They will copy it to transfer paper and just "color in" the outline. At least that is what the place I went to did.

Not sure that's true. Again, I think the placement of the tat is very important.

Probably gonna do it next weekend. I found a pic of an octopus foot tattoo that's similar to the type of tattoo I want and best bang for you buck, although I think the tatoo will be a little more detailed. Thoughts?

link
what compels you to have a drawing of an octopus on your foot for the rest of your life?
Favorite animal, duh.

This is why I could never get a tattoo. At least for me, there's nothing more significant than "hey - I like this thing, let me put it on there". It doesn't reach the level of putting permanent artwork on myself. It's like when you think it seems like a good idea to buy a blender, because, hey, I'd use a blender. Then you never use the blender.

Plus tattoos of ######s are not attractive.

I have a tattoo. Got it about 20 years ago. It was right before tattoos became mainstream again. I loved it. Now, everyone has a tattoo, or a sleeve, or their face tattooed. I feel like it's lost its cool factor. I don't regret my tattoo, but I'm glad I went with something small and in a place where people can only see it if I want them to.
PenisArt
When I'm flaccid, it says "HE", but when I'm hard it says "HEY YOU, QUIT LOOKING AT MY JUNK!".

Reminds me of my go-to "dirty" joke....

A guy wants to prove his devotion to his girlfriend, Wendy. He gets her name tattooed on his junk so that when he's erect, it says "WENDY". When flaccid, it's just "WY".

So he's at the ballgame and peeing in a trough when he happens to look over at a rather large black gentleman and notices "WENDY" on his junk. Reluctantly, he says "hey, are you in love with a Wendy, too?"

Guy looks at him and says "oh, this? Nah, it says 'WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA, HAVE A NICE DAY".

:excited:

Also, I just got my first ink done on Saturday afternoon after planning it for close to a decade. Just got a wild hair on my trip to Austin where I have an acquaintance who's a pretty established artist there. Good stuff.

I was watching Lock Up last night and a guy had a $100 dollar bill tattooed on his penis. It's so he can ask girls if they want to blow some money.

If cost is a factor do it yourself. Saves money, but your probably limited on where you can put it. Also consider going to prison. A tat their will only cost 1/2 pack of cigs or a minor sexual act.

A thank you is not necessary, we are all here to help.

So Fn annoyed with the guy I want to work on my tattoo. The guy is incredible but Ive been trying to get on the schedule for almost a month. Hes like the tattoo Nazi. Hes so talented that Im driving 3 hours away so he can work on my arm for 8 hours and dealing with his eccentric, weirdo ###. :hot:

I'm with Woz on this one.

I recently participated in a panel interview where two candidates were within seconds of being offered a job and then failed the "do you have a visible tatoo" question.

Not that everyone wants a job which dictates "no visible tattoos", but why would you ever take that option off the table for vanity?

If you want to make a statement, wear a new hat. Permanent graffiti on your body?

I have never seen a woman and thought that a tattoo would make her prettier or hotter.
Tats don't necessarily make women seem prettier or hotter, but they do make them seem more sexually promiscuous:

Guéguen, N. (2013). Effects of a tattoo on men’s behavior and attitudes towards women: An experimental field study. Archives of sexual behavior, 42, 1517-1524.

Previous studies have indicated negative evaluations of women with tattoos. However, a study by Swami and Furnham (2007) showed that tattooed women were rated as less physically attractive but more sexually promiscuous. Given that men interpret women's sexual intent according to their physical appearance, we predicted that women with tattoos would be more favorably approached by men. A temporary tattoo was placed on confederates' lower back, or not, and all confederates were instructed to read a book while lying flat on their stomach on a well-known beach. Two experiments were conducted. The first experiment showed that more men (N = 220) approached the tattooed confederates and that the mean latency of their approach was quicker. A second experiment showed that men (N = 440) estimated to have more chances to have a date and to have sex on the first date with tattooed confederates. However, the level of physical attractiveness attributed to the confederate was not influenced by the tattoo condition.
Swami, V., & Furnham, A. (2007). Unattractive, promiscuous and heavy drinkers: Perceptions of women with tattoos. Body Image, 4(4), 343-352.

This study examined social and physical perceptions of blonde and brunette women with different degrees of tattooing. Eighty-four female and 76 male undergraduates rated a series of 16 female line drawings that varied in 2 levels of hair colour and 8 levels of tattooing. Ratings were made for physical attractiveness and sexual promiscuity, as well as estimates of the number of alcohol units consumed on a typical night out. Results showed that tattooed women were rated as less physically attractive, more sexually promiscuous and heavier drinkers than untattooed women, with more negative ratings with increasing number of tattoos. There were also weak interactions between body art and hair colour, with blonde women in general rated more negatively than brunettes. Results are discussed in terms of stereotypes about women who have tattoos and the effects of such stereotypes on well-being.

I wait until I want to commemorate some type of huge life event before getting tatted. Like after I do some brilliant #### for myself in my life. I have four. My favorite is the topless pin-up chick I have tattooed on my abs. The dude drew it in such a way that her bellybutton is not ink, but actually one of my freckles, as if it was meant to be.

Agreed....."22" on my shoulder - number I wore and wear playing sports....

FD logo of a now defunct fire Dept that my god mother started at. She passed a few years ago.

Fedora with a colorful feather like my grandfather wore - up high on my left chest almost touching my shoulder.

Large winged Pegasus for my oldest daughter left chest

Chineise monkey right chest for my you get daughter

Right arm/sleeve - in memory of our greatest generation - spcuficly the Asiatic-Pacific campaigne featuring landing on the sandy via Higgins boat, a view from behind a F4 firing on a Zero, a tractor like the one my grandfathers battalion used to build bridges/ roads.

An old school NFC East logo left underside of my forearm.

No death, no RIP, no tribal, no hands praying.

I've been collecting ideas for a few years now.

I have two

One on my left forearm which I regret. I'd like to get it removed one day or at least turned into something I actually care about. I got it in a little joint in Okinawa, Japan. 25 years later it did not age well.

One on my upper right arm, just a simple "USMC"

I want to get that one re-done with a much larger image.

Some of the base designs I am kicking around while I try to find a local guy who can work with me on this:

Last, I would like to get something to remind me of my boys. I like Steady's idea, I hadn't thought of getting something that represents them as opposed to getting something like a picture or a name, I wouldn't want that, but I could see getting a monkey because we always called my oldest punky monkey and my youngest was owen "d" bear or squawkbox.

Gater---- if you're interested in looking at ideas for a monkey I really recommend searching Chinese monkey. The monkey is held in very high regard in Chinese culture and there are many stories about them.

I learned that from a buddy just last weekend after I grew frustrated of all goofy and ugly monkey designs I had previously found

Okay thanks. I'm going to look for an artist I like around here and maybe bring him some ideas. See what he can come up with.

Or go Hindu. Per Google AI

Hanuman, a revered figure in Hindu mythology, and Sun Wukong, the Monkey King from Chinese folklore, are often linked, with some scholars suggesting Hanuman may have inspired the creation of Sun Wukong. While they share some characteristics and are both monkey-like figures, they are not the same and have distinct origin stories, feats, and personalities.

Elaboration:
  • Hanuman in Hinduism:
Hanuman is a powerful deity in Hinduism, known for his strength, loyalty, and devotion to Lord Rama. He is a key character in the Ramayana epic.

    • Sun Wukong in Chinese Folklore:
Sun Wukong, or the Monkey King, is a central figure in the Chinese novel Journey to the West. He is a mischievous and powerful character known for his magical abilities and rebellious nature.
    • Possible Influence:
Some scholars suggest that Hanuman's stories and characteristics may have influenced the creation of Sun Wukong. The similarities include both being monkey-like figures with superhuman strength and magical abilities.
    • Differences:
Despite the similarities, Hanuman and Sun Wukong have different origin stories, feats, and personalities. For example, Hanuman is a devoted follower of Rama, while Sun Wukong is a more independent and rebellious character.
    • Cultural Context:
The story of Rama, including Hanuman, was likely brought to China by traders and Buddhist monks during the Tang, Song, and Yuan dynasties. This led to the blending of Indian and Chinese cultures, with the emergence of figures like Sun Wukong, according to the New Indian Express.
    • Evidence of Influence:
Some scholars point to the shared traits, such as shapeshifting and manipulating body size, as evidence of Hanuman's influence on Sun Wukong.

I read yesterday that 25% of people who get a tattoo, also later opt for tattoo removal.

There is a strip mall in the highway that I pass that has on the list of stores "Tattoo Removal" with "Tattoo Studio" right below in a different font and color.
