Decision Confirmed: University of South Florida (2 Viewers)

I've read through this thread and it sounds like you're really doing well right now. Congrats.

I do think, however,  you might be selling yourself a little short though. With your employment experience, interpersonal skills and work ethic, you'd probably be a good candidate for a technical degree program. Have you considered something along the lines of Aeronautical Engineering or Nuclear Physics?

Thanks for the detailed post and better late than never is right, lol!

I really wish I hadn't wasted as much time as I have but I still have the optimistic goal of having my Masters Degree by 30.

The big hangup for me between the 3 degrees Accounting, Economics, and Finance is the "business common core". Those classes alone will add at least an extra semester to my journey and time is of the essence for me right now.

To circumvent this, I'm going for an non-business Economics Degree which I'm about 70 credit hours away from. It'll take me two full years along with some summer classes but I will have a Bachelors.

I'm thinking the current plan is to finish the Bachelors in Economics, backtrack and finish up the "Business Core" which then puts me on the path to an MBA.

I don't know what the hell I can do with an Economics degree. But I assume it's fairly similar to that as Business Admin or Finance.

Thoughts?
Don't choose a major based on the quickest way to a degree.  You have the rest of your life to work.

I already worked at a bank on the retail side of things and hated it. I was a "lead" but selling people savings account and other nonsense they didn't need was gruesome and totally not me at all.
Almost missed this gem.

You don't even know what banking is....sigh....Set your sights a bit higher than a lead teller or CSR.
this.  being a teller is not really 'banking'.  retail banking could entail being a business banker (you go around talking to local business owners who need loans or deposit accounts for their businesses) or something on the marketing side (analyzing data to figure out how to acquire and retain new consumer deposit accounts and deepen cross-sell relationships).  I actually think the business banker thing could be good for you.  you get to set your own hours for the most part, as long as you're producing and hitting your numbers your superiors let you do your thing (that's not to say you're gonna get away working 4 hour days, it's a hard job).  it's good for an enterprising person who likes talking to people.

UPDATE:

Well fellas, I've officially made it! I've been down in Florida for a week now and I am loving this weather. I am setup for orientation at the University of South Florida: St Petersburg this Friday!

The adventure is officially beginning and I am struggling to decide whether or not I want my degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
You're living in Palm Bay County but going to school in St. Pete? Why?

Wife has both an undergrad and advanced degree from USF, most usually go to different schools but in 1995 they offered my wife a position to work at the University and attend school, she had her MBA by the time she was 24...what she saw in me I'll never know.

USF is a commuter school and a terrific place for working professionals to finish their degrees. Good Luck Em

That is insane that online courses from a state school are that expensive.  School prices should be going down with all these distant learning offerings.  Yet, they are going up at record rates.  The education system is a bubble that will likely end with a Hillary bail-in. Like relieving student debt.  You may want to look into taking the courses you need at a cc at a cheaper rate, just verify they will transfer.
I paid $8 per credit hour in California in 2002 to attend LACC...once I was a CA resident, I fleeced that system for everything I could. I act all high and mighty but the truth is I worked the system and made out like a bandit in California during our 7 year run out there. Was able to accumulate 60 credits before I ended up at the Univ of Miami.

I'm sure it is a good school - UNO here has a similar rep.

But is USF St Pete a different entity or the same?

Also I was just curious about this post by @Eminence -

I don't know. Should be somewhere in Palm Bay, that's where I got my license and registered.
- IIRC Palm Bay is on the other side of the state from St. Pete. I'm just curious how/why he's living there and commuting to USF-SP - is that common? How long of a drive is that?

I'm in Palm Bay with my parents right now. My original plan was to use part of the student loan money to rent an apartment in Clearwater but I decided that was really shortsighted.

The new plan is to take online courses at the moment to get some momentum going towards my degree.

Yes, I plan on going back to work. I haven't looked to see what's available but I'm the kind of guy who will sit down for 3 hours and send my resume to 50 different businesses.

Unemployment ran out last month and I'm living off savings / gambling money right now.
You're not in So. Fla? Or you are? How did you end up in Palm Bay?

Are you enrolled in USF-SP?

Wife attended the main campus in Tampa, we lived between Flower/Fletcher for a few years. I guess they have a St Pete campus, don't know much about it.
