Decision Confirmed: University of South Florida (1 Viewer)

How far can someone get in the accounting world if they're busted for tax evasion before they become an accountant?
I thought the countless penny stock trades were all hypothetical and were just to illustrate that kind of sick gains he had to offer anyone who gave him $ to invest in weedstox. The Walgreens ESPP would trigger some tax implications probably though.

I got my taxes done today. Looks like my credit card debt is about to go "bye, bye" in a hurry.
Did you do them yourself?
Please tell me you did not pay someone else to do your taxes. What kind of accountant are you?
Did them myself, very easy. I used H&R Block's online software. Took me all of 10 - 15 minutes.
So you just used your W-2's. I assume you did not report all your penny stock transactions or even bother with any of the tuition statements from your school? What about Walgreen stocks, did you cash any of those out?
I reported tuition statements. I didn't list anything to do with my stocks. But hey, you're not the IRS, right? ;) I'm cashing out $1,000 of my stock on Wednesday. That combined with my return should bring my card balances to $0.

From there, my credit should drastically improve and I should be able to start stockpiling money for a new car.

I really want a Mazda 3. But I'll take a rundown Camaro if that's what is financially feasible for me.
No gambling winnings either?

Do not get a Camaro. Get the Mazda. You need all the help you can get in getting girls. The Camaro will only help if you are looking for redneck chicks. There is nothing with redneck chicks but you are not going to be able to get anything other than redneck chicks. You do not want to limit your chances.

Chicks drive Mazda's. Men drive Camaro's. You don't want any Liberal feminist chicks anyway. Stick with Hayseeds.

Your broker reports transactions to the IRS automatically.

Hope that helps.

eta: Oh, and they usually mess up and don't report the cost basis so the IRS treats the whole sale as profit. So you need to keep your documentation in order. Hope that helps too.

He could get a friendly notice down the road. I just hope his $3000 deduction for medical pot does not raise any flags.

Isn't that a job requirement? That is probably better than having an MBA on the resume.
Seems like they'd want the guys NOT busted, though, right?
A little street creed never hurt. I want a guy willing to take a bullet for the team.
Ok. That makes sense. Good luck, Em!

UPDATE (05/09):

I received a letter in the mail from Olivet Nazerene University offering me a $15,000 scholarship per year to attend their school. This breaks down quite nicely and has all but pushed my hand towards attending that school this fall.

Tuition: $29,050

Less scholarship: $15,000

Less tuition reimbursement from work: $5,250

Less financial aid: $4,666

Equals: $4,134 per year or $2,067 per semester (out of pocket)

-

I am currently 74 - 76 Credit Hours away from a Bachelors in Accounting at Olivet Nazerene University. I should be able to clinch my Bachelors Degree in about 2-years.

My other option is to finish my Bachelors at Baker College where I am 100 Quarter Hours away from my Bachelors in Business Administration: Accounting Concentration. I will outline the key differences between each decision:

Cost:

Olivet Nazerene University (74 - 76 Semester Hours)

Year 1: $7,974 = 42 Credit Hours

Year 2: $4,134 = 32 Credit Hours

Total: $12,108

1.76 Years

Baker College (100 Quarter Hours)

Year 1: $5,444 = 64 Quarter Hours

Year 2: $0 = 36 Quarter Hours

Total: $5,444

1.56 Years

Olivet Nazerene University will cost me $6,444 more out of pocket than Baker College will to finish my Bachelors Degree. The core differences being:

1.) Olivet is a University and Baker is a College. Universities carry more prestige.

2.) Olivet is a physical campus full of Christians (65% women) and Baker is completely online.

3.) It would take me 2.5 months longer to graduate from Olivet than Baker.

Actually, I forgot to mention the American Opportunity Tax Credit which will reimburse me up to $2,500 a year on my taxes.

Olivet will cost me $7,108 for my Bachelors.

Baker will cost me $444 for my Bachelors.

Hrm, I'm kind of leaning towards going to school for free...

Brisk pace IMO

Olivet Nazerene University will cost me $6,444 more out of pocket than Baker College will to finish my Bachelors Degree. The core differences being:
You keep misspelling the name of the University.

It is Nazarene, not Nazerene.

Another indication that you are not particularly detail oriented, which does not bode well for one seeking a career in Accounting or any field that involves paying close attention to details.

Go to the University. A bachelor's in accounting will more than make up the difference in expense vs. a certificate of whatever.

You aren't going to school, you're watching videos online.

I was accepted to the University of South Florida!
Only 62% white, sure you will be comfortable there? And it has to be an issue, since you listed the percentage of white students of every school you were considering in the OP:

University of Southern Florida

Tampa Bay, Florida

$4,506 in State.

$14,429 out of State

62% White

40,401 Students
I'm already two-steps ahead of you. The St. Petersburg campus where I'm going is 77.6% white.

Lol. Downtown SP is not the racist, homophobic wasp paradise you are seeking. I think the gay pride parade that is next weekend rolls right by that campus.

Sounds like a good way for Em to act out his inner desires.

how in the heck are you able to take 21 hours per semester? I had an 18 hour semester that almost killed me. There is no way with an accounting major. Oh, hold, i forgot who i was talking too.....By the way, are you accepted to the school of business or are you still doing the general studies?

I was accepted to the University of South Florida!
Sweet. How much a semester?
$7,736.50 per semester out of state.

$2,279.50 per semester in state.
Which are you? And do you have that kind of money?
I'll be considered out-of-state until January 2017.

I plan on starting here the Spring Semester (January 2016). Which gives me about 6 months to save up money for the $7,736.50 semester (which will be reimbursed). My current job will pay $5,200 in tuition reimbursement so that cuts the bill down to about $2,236 for the Spring semester. I should receive a tax credit of $2,500 for tuition costs accrued in 2015 that will come back on my 2016 tax return. So my first semester will be reimbursed 100%.

From there, I will have from May - August to save up my next $7,736.50 for the 2016 Fall Semester.

After that, I will be a Florida Resident in 2017 and my yearly tuition will be $4,559 a year which my employer will pay 100% of.
