Defense by committee can drive you insane (1 Viewer)

Teams that look great one week (Arizona last week) look atrocious the next. This week some decent defenses with good matchups got owned. Chicago and Denver both got lit. The ball hawking Cards, after playing great last week on the road vs. Cincy, got trashed by the freakin' 49'rs. Vikings, on the other hand, got torched by Daunte Culpepper and the Raiders, then go off vs. the supposedly better Giants. Pretty hard to predict, this defense by committee stuff. I'm tempted to just play the best defense on the roster (Tampa Bay) week in and week out regardless of matchups at this point.

Anybody else guessing wrong big time with defenses?

I usually do pretty well with the committee approach based on match-up - but got burnt today by the Cardinals @ home vs SF!

Big time. I'm gonna lose (in a freebie newbie work league) to a guy starting 2 players that are out. Grabbed AZ and benched Minny. He's got Moss left to torch me. Luckily won't affect my status or playoff seeding.My other choice was Chi or Ten. Didn't matter too much who I picked there.ETA, I could care less about the Cards D killing me because all that matters is that after a crazy day the Seahawks have a two game lead in the West! My NFL team>>>>>>>My FF team.

i too started the Cards over Minnesota... pretty frustrating... no way to expect what occurred today, unless you expected a total reversal of the the trends presenting themselves the last 4-5 weeks.

Lost my waiver claim for Arizona and got stuck with Tampa. I swear, sometimes the move you don't/can't make ends up being the right one. I never would've guessed that Arizona would get owned by the Niner offense. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother to read up on this stuff--some of it makes no sense on paper...

I was seriously looking into the article by FBG in offseason...the one about Defense By Committee. I believe they mentioned the two to grab and intertwine were Tenn and Minn..?

That being said, I grabbed NE in my redraft league. They have been one of my most valuable and "least-headache" positions. Being able to plug them in 16 out of 17 weeks keeps nightmares, i.e. Arizona today, away.

I agree with you. I have the Chargers D but picked up the BUCS D just in case. BUCS do play SF week 16 in playoffs. Reason I picked them up. Let's hope I'm right.
