Defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and the Broncos have agreed to part ways after only one season together, NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi confirmed through a league source.
Nolan’s Denver defense ranked seventh overall in the NFL, allowing just 315 yards per game, but it was 26th against the run (128.7 ypg). It ranked third against the pass (186.3 ypg).
The Broncos (8-8) lost eight of their last 10 games to miss the playoffs this season.
Nolan joined Josh McDaniels‘ first Broncos staff last January, just months after he was fired as the 49ers’ coach halfway through the 2008 season. Nolan previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Ravens, Jets, Redskins and Giants.

Since arriving in Denver, McD has continued to do his best to drive this organization into the ground. Before he's through they will be one of the bottom 5 teams in the league.

Wow. Without Nolan the Broncos might have gone 3-13 this year. McDaniels better win and win soon, otherwise this is going to look like a colossally bad hire.

Miami boards are buzzing that he'll be their next DC - almost a done deal.
They asked Denver for permission to interview him - they refused - then they parted ways.
Seems like a good fit for their 3-4.

A lot of people figured the wheels would come off with Josh McD, we just were 12 months too early. 
I gotta say that I think this makes perfect sense. McDaniels has a pretty well established history at this point of getting rid of anyone who is performing their job better than merely competently. Now all he has to do is cut Dumervil and force Dawkins into retirement and he'll have realized his dream of remaking Denver in his image.
Of course, generally most coaches want to remake the team in their image because their image is competent, qualified, or successful... but that McDaniels, he's a real forward thinker.

Mwaaaaaa. When it was Cutler we all said Cutler was a baby. When it was Marshall we all said Marshall was a diva. Then there was Scheffler and Marshall and we didn't know what to say. Now he can go after D. Pees as his DC, who recently left New England.
Pees leaving New England and Nolan leaving Denver all within a matter of days of each other seems like more than a coincidence.

it seems that none of Bellichick's cronies work or play well with others. Mangina, Weiss, McDaniels, Saban, CrennelWasn't crennel still doing something for the Browns this past offseason? There were guys upset he was not returning in an "I'm gonna miss him" sorta way. I don't think Romeo applies here.Weis was a coordinator or positional coach so long...I don't know on him.Saban and Mangini sure seem to like being the general of the army and I understand how someone can think as such. Saban though has loyal coaches/followers.

I wonder what the general concensus is on Mike Nolan with the Defensive Gurus around here...Granted, it was a while ago - I think 2000 or so, But, Nolan coached the Jets D and was a bit of a mess.Since then and from what I saw, I never associated Nolan with what I call the "Geniuses" of the league - a Bellichik, who dazzles players with weekly game plans. There were stories about players like Brian Cox teaching him the defense and how he was pretty much a puppet - If I recall 3-4 wasn't really his thing at the time. Then he went on to Baltimore, again with an established defense that pretty much did what they always did and I'm not sure how much credit he deserved there but, it was great on the resume - and then he was a pretty mediocre HC.... Last year was pretty good, obviously back as a DC.

They should hire him and let him do whatever he wants with the scheme and personnel. But they won't.
He didn't run the Niners D very well either; it improved quite a bit as soon as Singletary took over. But he definitely did a nice job in Denver this year.

Denver was 7th in total defense. Miami was 22nd.Denver was 4th in defense against the pass. Miami was 24th.Perhaps that has more to do with personnel, but coaching has to play a role as well. The Phins could use an upgrade on defense, personnel wise and coach wise. Nolan would be a welcome upgrade.

Under Nolan the Broncos D went from being ranked 29th to 7th in a year. Ironically enough they improved by having 3 starting ex Dolphins - Goodman, Holliday and Hill. After firing their DC the Dolphins were looking at the likes of Al Groh & Butler.I have yet to see one Bronces fan happy with Nolan leaving.

You won't see a happy Bronco fan until A) they start winning more than 8 games per year or B) Little Bill leaves town.I'm honestly not sure which will happen first. As much as I am unclear as to WTF Little Bill is trying to pull with this team, I am still hopeful his plan works, and Denver starts winning. I will stop calling him Little Bill when/if that happens. I want to stop calling him Little Bill, but he hasn't earned that in my eyes yet.

I understand they are attempting to sugar-coat this as a mutual decision, but this sure smacks of the rats leaving a sinking ship.This is the 3rd coach to leave under McDork---Dennison, Turner and now Nolan. I think they see the handwriting on the wall and know this Broncos team is not going to be good this year and possibly for a few years.
