Deion Branch Ready for Week 1? (1 Viewer)

The Seattle Times hints that Deion Branch (knee) might have a chance to play in the Seahawks' season opener.

While we seriously doubt that he'll face Buffalo, the team's decision to remove Branch from PUP indicates that he could play early in the year. Branch may not be "100 percent" before midseason, but he's worth rostering. The Seahawks could rush him back due to their many injuries at receiver.

just picked him up off the waiver wire....stashing away. You don't win titles week 1 or 2!

Branch wasn't too good even when he had two functioning knees, why would a one kneed Branch be any better?

no news flash here but Branch was just on local radio -

He has yet to practice with the offense, still just running sprints on the sideline during practice building up stamina and speed.

Knee is fine but he is not in game shape yet.

Will probably start practicing soon - wouldn't be pinned down on exact date but it didn't sound like this week.

Sounded like even when he did start practicing it would be part time and still running sprints making a transition to full time practices.

in sum - Sounded like maybe game 3 or 4 - but when he does come back he will be 100%.

Deion Branch: Not quite ready to return

Wide receiver Deion Branch appeared on KJR (950 AM) on Tuesday morning with Dave Mahler to discuss the bowling tournament he will have at Lucky Strike Lanes in Bellevue next Tuesday.

Branch is recovering from reconstructive knee surgery after suffering a torn ligament early in Seattle's playoff loss to Green Bay. Mahler asked when he will return.

"I'm close to returning," Branch said on the radio. "I wouldn't say I'm ready right now, if you asked me today."

Mahler followed up to ask him specifically what the time frame is for the return, and Branch was pretty coy. He said it will be a surprise. The team does not relase a practice report until after Wednesday's workout.

Holmgren said after Friday's exhibition game against Oakland that the expectation was Branch might be ready to practice this week.

Branch said part of the process is rebuilding his stamina and strength.

"I'm breaking through the fatigue phase," Branch said.

Branch will be 29 this year...think of the things other WR have accomplished by the age of 29...

2002:Rookie year 43/489/2..

2003: 57/803/3...didn't miss significant time.

2004: 35/454/4...and he was out for a lot of the year.

2005: 78/998/5...and that has been his career year and part of why Seattle traded a 1st rounder for him, man does that look bad in hindsight.

2006: 53/725/4...I don't see alrge chuinks of time missed but I bet he was on the IR a lot.

2007: 49/661/4...I know he was injured late int he year but was he in and out before that too? Seems like he misses a lot of time.

We are talking about a guy that averages 700-950 yds when healthy, 60-70 catches, 4 TD...why do we get so hot for this guy? He has never cracked the top20, more in the 40-50 range. I like him enough but he just never can piece together a full season..let it go. DJax was never injured this much and he was branded as a total failure...he had many many more good years than Branch.

It's a reality that he is on people's rosters so an update is warranted - It's also relevant to anyone that has Burleson or Engram - with all 3 guys on the field - I'd stay away from all 3 - any one of them will be lucky to catch 60 balls.

Funny you would bring this up...I have been a defender of Djax for a long long time, probably posted his stats year by year more than any other poster...do a search and you will find them. My point was simply that people spend a lot of time on a guy that will never be soemone you can rely on for 1,000-1,200 yds and 8 TDs...Roy Williams has even accomplished that and he is another injury bug mess.

fair enough. My point was simply that he will find himself on rosters - I took him in my 14 team league for $1 - I'd rather roster a guy like Branch or Chris Henry that you could actually look to use in a good matchup later in the season, rather than roster a guy like Derek Hagan - who maybe could possibly almost be useful WR for a bye week. You could get them roughly the same cost or round.

If Seattle throwing it all the time with Hass can make Bobby Engram fantasy relevant after almost a decade of being subpar, who is to say Branch can't benefit in the same way? Not saying it's a lock but he's probably got more potential then any WR on your waiver wire can bring to the table.

I don't think this is really about Branch, the individual, as much as it is the Seahawks WR1 is out there for cheap (or free in leagues with short benches) and may be returning earlier than expected. With the state of the Hawks' receiving corps right now, Branch could end up a nice pickup or buy low. I don't think anyone's going to be pinning their seasons on the guy.

yeah, but this was with the Belichick/Brady led Patriots - we all know how tough it is for a WR to put up big #'s in that O. Brady just likes to spread it around too much and lean on the running game.
