Demaryius Thomas (1 Viewer)

Its amazing how quickly someone can go from the second coming of Jerry Rice to the first guy to cut off my roster when I need a kicker to cover a bye week.
All depends whether you play in a redraft or dynasty.
Indeed. In a keeper league, he is deeply rooted on my bench. He aint getting off until he produces - that includes the waiver wire. Aint dropping nor trading the young fellow.

Still holding in a shallow 10 team PPR with no flex. I'll give him a couple move weeks till he falls to the WW.

ETA: If one of the WRs in Denver gets injured, the remaining healthy ones will be pretty valuable. Right now it's a log jam of competition with Gaffney, Lloyd, Royal, and Thomas.

I did say for later in the season in my original post. On this team he will never be a WR1 but as the year goes on he will get more options. Part of the problem is that Orton , McDaniels and the team have gone out of there way to not have a #1 WR after last year with the issues they had with Marshall.I dont think they ever want to feature any one WR on a consistent basis. but you can see that Thomas is the most talented WR on that team ( future wise) and there will be days it will shine.

Bingo. As much as Denver throws, it's almost guaranteed Thomas starts and plays the majority of the snaps at some point due to injuries.

Thomas is the 2nd-most "dropped" player in CBS Sportsline leagues this week. :lmao:

I think that's a terrible mistake. You have to have a little bit of patience with a rookie. Especially a rookie WR.
I agree but if Brandon Lloyd is available you have to roster him over Thomas at this point in the season.

Annnnnnnnnnd of course, THOMAS is the WR who gets injured.
Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas left in the second quarter of Denver's Week 5 game with head and neck injuries. Thomas got hammered while returning a kick and did not return. Before leaving, Thomas had two catches for 12 yards.

Fantasy Analysis:

Thomas got destroyed on the play that injured him, and he took a while to get up. While Thomas' Fantasy value has taken a hit since his solid Week 2 performance, the rookie is worth stashing away in deeper formats. This injury might change that situation, so keep an eye on news about his status.
Finley and Thomas. Nice.FML.

He got destroyed. Im not sure if its something that will keep him out for a while but it did not look good. He did get off on his own but he was in pain.

Is it time to take another look at Thomas in redrafts? I would think he will get some more playing time this week with Royal's groin injury.

There is a plan for the Broncos to get their most physically adept offensive player on the field.

And no, this isn't about the Tebow Package.

This is Operation Demaryius.

Tim Tebow, the Broncos' first-round rookie quarterback, can be guarded. He may bust through the guard, but there are NFL defenders who are as big, and as strong, and as fast as he is.

Demaryius Thomas, the Broncos' first-round rookie receiver, has played just enough this season to show he can be unguardable at times.

If none other than Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis can become utterly outmatched by Thomas, what chance do other NFL defenders have against the Broncos' rookie receiver?

"Demaryius, his upside, we're talking whatever that is, top two or three," Broncos veteran defensive back Nate Jones said. "He has that potential because the combination of speed and size is always deadly. We're talking Andre Johnson-type guys. Guys like that, you don't know if you should press them because they're strong. Demaryius is strong as heck. The physical attributes are there."

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said at his news conference Monday that in the next six weeks, eight weeks, 10 weeks, Thomas has to start receiving consistent playing time.

It doesn't matter that the Broncos' existing receiving corps of Brandon Lloyd, Jabar Gaffney and Eddie Royal has been highly productive. None of those receivers can confound a defensive coordinator like Thomas can.

"I think they have the best group that we've seen thus far, maybe we'll see all year," said Oakland coach Tom Cable, whose Raiders play the Broncos this Sunday at Invesco Field at Mile High. "For (Thomas) not to get as much time probably as he wants, it's just a matter of time. That guy is a good player."

It's not that McDaniels hasn't tried getting Thomas on the field. There was the experiment of having Thomas return kicks, only to reach the predictable conclusion that at 6-feet-3, 229 pounds, his "Hit Me" target is a bit large. There have been injuries, first the fractured fifth metatarsal before the NFL scouting combine that cost Thomas most of the offseason and preseason, then a forearm injury and concussion during the season.

"He has to keep building so he doesn't keep going back a step," McDaniels said. "He takes two steps up and then he comes back a step."

Then there have been the typical struggles rookies experience with the mental side of the game.

"I've got to get inside the playbook," Thomas said. "The first couple games I played in, I missed some assignments."

He was about to miss another assignment Sunday against the Jets when Gaffney came to the rescue. McDaniels

(The Denver Post)sent in a play that wasn't on the game-day call sheet. The Broncos had practiced the play before, so 10 guys in the huddle knew what to do.

Thomas, though, went to the wrong side. Gaffney, who has been with McDaniels the past five seasons at Denver and New England, went over to grab Thomas, then firmly planted the kid in his assigned spot.

"That play right there," Thomas said Thursday, "shows you're a rookie."

With Royal gimpy with a groin injury — and even if he wasn't — Thomas knows increased playing time awaits. It's incumbent upon him to nab it.

"Once I line up, I'm OK," he said. "It's getting to where I always know where to line up. I'm doing a lot more than I used to. I'm watching a lot more film. I've been in my playbook, but not as much as I am now. I used to spend an hour. Now I'm spending two hours. I might go 30 minutes, take a break, go another 30 minutes."

Keep studying, kid. Ian Eagle has been an NFL play-by-play announcer for 13 seasons. The one game he saw Thomas play, he was clobbered by a Baltimore Ravens sandwich while returning a kickoff.

"But watching the other games — it's rare that you are that impressed with anybody physically because you feel like you've seen all shapes and sizes," said Eagle, who will call the Broncos-Raiders' game for CBS with Dan Fouts. "This guy is a specimen. He stands out. You don't need to know the name on the back of the jersey to know it's him."

To date, there have been only 14 catches to watch. Then again, Thomas' rookie season is eclipsing those of so many other of the league's top receivers.

Brandon Marshall had two catches for 22 yards through his first seven games. Miles Austin didn't get his 14th catch until he was well into his third season.

"There are two big adjustments you have to make as a rookie," Thomas said. "I think the biggest adjustment you have is to know your playbook, and playing fast once you learn it. And then, every cornerback in the league, they're all good. In college, you might have some who are good and some who aren't."

The Broncos are 2-4 but playing in an AFC West Division that can be had. They need Thomas to hurry up and figure out how to stay on the field.

"I hope he keeps building because when he's out there, it's a difference," McDaniels said. "He creates some problems."

Thanks for the article. He is on my waiver wire now and I am contemplating whether or not he is worth a pickup. I think I will wait another week to decide.

any news on how hes going to be used this weekend?
I think it all depends on Royal's status. If he is out or limited, he should be in on 3 WR sets. This week could be a good chance for him to earn more playing time. Here is the latest update on Rotoworld for Royal.
Eddie Royal (questionable, groin) returned to Broncos practice on Friday. It was only a "light" workout, so this doesn't say a whole lot about Royal's chances of playing against the Raiders. Royal may be a game-time decision for the 4:15ET contest. Owners should roster Demaryius Thomas as insurance.

People need to stop with the Tebow replacing Orton thing.

Barring injury it simply won't happen.

I think the emergence of Lloyd has put D Thomas' breakout on hold for this year. He just isn't getting enough opportunities and most of the big plays are going Lloyd's way.

I picked up Thomas & stashed him for a few weeks, but eventually moved on.

I agree. Orton "held his own" in 09 and now is thriving. I don't see how anyone could pull him for a rookie QB that is not named Bradford. Aaron Rodgers (drafted a pick or two away from Tebow) sat for 3 years. Sure, Tebow is an exciting player, but instead of talking about Orton getting pulled for him, I am curious whether they are going to devise new packages to get him in the game more.

If you're a rebuilding team looking for cornerstone players to acquire for a reasonable price, go get Demaryius Thomas. I liked him a lot as a draft prospect and he hasn't disappointed at all in the NFL. One of the knocks on him coming out of Tech was that he was all straight line speed with poor agility, but that simply isn't the case. He's about 6'3" 230 and he moves as fluidly as a guy who's 5'10" 190. Case in point:

If he can stay healthy and motivated, he's a future top 10 WR. The only reason his stats are so low is because he's not getting targets. Use that to your advantage if the Thomas owner in your league isn't a true believer and make an offer while he's still available. He's younger/more talented than probably 10-15 of the receivers you can trade for him.

Except that McDaniels has already done some pretty nonsensical things... But, I hear what you're sayin'.

What is the contract situations of Gaffney, Royal and Lloyd look like? I'm guessing Royal is still under contract for 2-3 years, but I'm not sure if the other two are FAs after this season or not. Having one (or both) of them leave after this year would certainly open things up for Thomas.

Why does it seem like Thomas gets hurt on almost every other play? Is the guy just being Percy-ish or is he just constantly banged up?

Any Denver homers feel Thomas has any chance to get healthy and be a FF surprise late in the season? PPR or otherwise?
I don't think he's not healthy. He came down awkwardly on one catch, but stayed in the game. The problem is that he is one of many WR's on this team...in front of DT, there's Lloyd, Gaffney, Royal, and then DT. Really, we are talking about the Broncos WR4, and WR4's usually aren't good FF plays. He's a very good dynasty play, though. His production so far is tracking better than Brandon Marshall, who I think is a pretty good comparison (except DT has more speed and probably better hands). I'd have to think that DT moves into the WR1A slot, opposite Lloyd next year, leapfrogging Gaffney and Royal remains in the slot.I do wish they would take him off of KR duties though...he just looks like too big of a target.

how do you think he will do this week kick off return wise?

and does anyone think he will get any catches this week? looks like hes #4 right now, and I do not kno if the broncos do 4 receiver sets.

I would think that he would do well on KRs this week. SD should be able to score plenty. The Kaeding doesn't kick many touchbacks and they are not playing in Denver with the thin air so touchbacks shouldn't be a problem. I picked him up this week in a return league expecting him to do well. Hopefully he catches a few balls also.

Royal has a Hammy injury. Thomas plays alot more when Royal is hurt or out . Might be a decent game for him Monday if Royal is limited.

Eddie Royal - WR - Broncos

Eddie Royal missed Broncos practice Friday with a hamstring injury.

Royal was a late addition to the injury report, putting his status in doubt for Monday Night Football. Denver's slot receiver has slowed considerably since his 113-yard game in Week 4. He wasn't a fantasy option at 100 percent.

Nov. 19 - 6:56 p.m. ET

They have said they want to get him more involved as the season goes on. It took half a season to get Dez Bryant involved and only now is Benn getting the reps in TB. They were just starting to get Golden Tate involeved in SEA but he got hurt. Most rookies dont start right away like M Williams in TB. but by season end ( playoff time ) they usually are starting.

Its the #1 passing offense in the NFL. With Royal looking doubtful and considering the Broncos don't throw to their TE or their backs a whole lot, Demaryius is now up to third option in the passing game behind Gaffney and Lloyd. Good chance he'll get significant targets, at least this week. Last week he got five targets and so did Royal.

has he gotten Kick Return looks previously when he is filling in for other receivers? He might be taken off Kick Returns for the next game if he has to concentrate more on the offense.

anyone one know what happoned when gaffney, royal, lloyd where limited in previous games?

Hurt Again. EVery week he gets hurt and is out of the game. Dropping him . hes not worth anything this year if at all.

Demaryius Thomas, WR, Denver Broncos Monday 11/22, 9:50 PM CT

Demaryius Thomas injured his ankle early in the second half of Denver's game against the Chargers on Monday evening, and will not return.

Our View: The latest setback for the rookie out of Georgia Tech. Like most personnel moves Joshua McDaniels has made during his two-year tenure in Denver, Thomas' drafting is beginning to look like a disaster for the Broncos.

Thomas started the game and was getting looks but I must say I was unimpressed even before he left with an injury.

Agreed, I've seen two games with him, so very small sample size. And granted he hasn't had a lot of opportunities, and I understand the whole first year WR thing. But this guy is supposed to have Megatron physical abilities... I just don't see it.

I'd just like to see this guy finish just one game healthy. Every week he goes in to play it seems like he nicks up something else. Is this how he was in college?

Sprained ankle. Got to guess he misses a few games . done for this year. worth holding in a Dynasty league.

Demaryius Thomas - WR - Broncos

Demaryius Thomas suffered a sprained ankle in Monday's Week 11 game against San Diego.

The injury happened after Chargers cornerback Antoine Cason tackled Thomas on the Broncos' opening drive of the second half. The rookie wideout has a history of ankle injuries, and the team has to be hoping the injury is just a simple sprain.

Nov. 23 - 1:38 a.m. ET

I'm curious what others think about his prospects for 2011-2012 if Tebow is now the starting QB in Denver. He definitely had the talent entering the league, but does Tebow's style hurt or help DT's prospects moving forward? Does he make a major step forward next season?
