Dennis Northcutt (1 Viewer)

What do you think? Good waiver wire pickup?

Garrard was slinging it quite a bit yesterday and looked to Northcutt often. While he finished with a modest 4 receptions, is he the one that might come out as the #1 WR?

It doesn't matter how many targets. His name is Dennis Dropcutt and he plays for a bottom of the barrel passing attack. There has to be someone better you can get. 2 drops this week.

 Unless your in a 20 team league there has to be better options out there, he is TERRIBLE

Why don't you guys throw out some better waiver wire fodder options?

In my 12 team, 18 man roster league, the top WR's available, based on yesterday's performances were:

Shaun McDonald: just may be a better pick-up than Northcutt, but I wouldn't salivate too much over him unless someone gets injured. Someone that's high on the waiver wire is going to take him though, and I expect they will probably drop him in 3 weeks after he produces some shoddy numbers. Remember that Roy Williams had a subpar statistical game. Kitna really threw it all over the place.

Drew Carter, who caught the only 3 balls thrown to him. His overall fantasy production was decent because of the two touchdowns, but I don't see him having much fantasy upside. Maybe some of you will disagree.

Brandon Stokely. He had 5 targets, and 3 receptions for 60+ yards, but he seems like a certain WR3 on the Broncos unless Marshall or Walker get hurt.

Bobby Engram. An interesting possibility if DJ Hackett is out for a few weeks. He had 3 targets and caught all of them for 60+ yards. Not really sure about him but he's not exactly a high-upside possibility.

Sam Hurd. One target and reception for a long touchdown. That one lone target is of some concern to me.

Laurent Robinson. Harrington spread the ball around and that offense looks terrible. Maybe in a year or two he'll be a good player, but from a fantasy perspective, I don't think he's worth a pick-up yet.

Sammie Parker. 6 targets, 4 receptions. kennison was out for the game and if he returns next week, I doubt he'll be doing very much. Some of you may disagree though.

Ike Hilliard. 6 targets and 4 receptions for 49 yards. Stovall and Boston were nowhere to be seen. Is he going to emerge as the number 2 receiver?

I don't know about you guys, but none of these options seem very appealing. I still might put Northcutt at the top of this list. the only one I might consider instead is Brandon Stokely, particularly for those that own Marshall or Walker. Maybe Shaun McDonald too, but I'd be more inclined to not pick anyone up and save my waiver wire position. General thoughts?

Scoring system? Who are your current receivers?
Don't want to make this a "who should I pick up" thread. Let's assume these are standard or PPR leagues with relatively deep rosters. This is more about Dennis Northcutt and comparing him to other WW fodder.

Is he worth picking up compared to the other waiver wire players mentioned? Yes. Do I expect him to be the featured WR because of this week? No.

Shaun McDonald

Drew Carter

would be on my list ahead of Northcutt, better offenses and better quaterbacks

I would actually take any of them over Dropcutt except maybe Parker. Laurent Robinson is the best player on the list if its a keeper league (insert Brian Brohm in 2008). Otherwise it a pick 'em.

If you have the space on your bench, why not pick him up? Someone has to catch the ball in Jax and Williams/Jones?Wilford (most of the time) have proven to be less than reliable.

I wouldnt expect a huge year from him as the Jags are not going to put a lot of points up. But, he could be an adequate bye week fill in if the match up is right

ETA - I would take him over McDonald as i'll take a #1 over a #4 anyday

The thing that upsets me is I took a bunch of value WRs in the hopes that after week 1 somebody will emerge off waivers and I can pick one up and be set for the year like last year (Colston, Cotchery). So far after week 1 I dont see anybody that emerged.

Yeah, with the Hackett injury we need to get somebody, thanks for the discussion!

As a longtime Browns fan, I agree that you should stay away from Northcutt. The drops aren't going to let up in the future, and that whole WR situation will be impossible to predict from week to week.

I would easily take Drew Carter over anyone else on that list. From what I've heard, Jarrett is not even CLOSE to ready. Doesn't he always get hurt though?

Luckily, our league isn't exactly full of sharks, so Patrick Crayton and Demetrius Williams are still available.

I don't know why anyone would say Jarrett always gets hurt. Yes, he's had some injuries. He had a separated shoulder in 2006 but that's not a "recurring" injury. And, he got a concussion, too. Otherwise, he was a very dependable WR.I wouldn't roster him though, in a redraft, because he's just not going to see a lot of playing time this year, at least not in the 1st half of the season. Now, if injuries hit Carter and Colbert, maybe. Otherwise, the only people looking at Jarrett this year are dynasty players.

9 targets and he still did crap.
4 receptions for 57 yards is not crap.Yes he is not great. But if Northcutt has Garrard's eye and is in the game more than any other JAX receiver, why does he not have the potential to produce decent fantasy numbers? Northcutt had 9 targets, and the receiver with the second most looks was Ernest Wilford with 3.I've got my eye on you Dennis.
