Denver Cuts Cedric Cobbs (1 Viewer)

FLASH BACK TO DRAFT DAY

In 1999 I watched a copy of Tennessee at Arkansas. In the game was a freshman tailback whose phenomenal running skills had me salivating. Power, speed, size, home run ability; he looked to me like a future top 10 pick even at that stage. Unfortunately for Cedric Cobbs, I don’t think he’s ever matched that day at Razorback Stadium. Talent wise, he could be the best running back in the draft. But the total package – injuries, off the field problems, coachability, commitment – mean that he might not hear his name called till the 2nd day, which for a player of his skills would be a crime. But the only person to blame is Cedric Cobbs.

A hugely talented big back, Cobbs has a wonderful size/speed combination. But injuries to his shoulder, ankle, toe, back and hamstring, as well as a rap sheet that includes an arrest for driving whilst intoxicated and for marijuana possession, will not sit well with many NFL teams. The ability to burst into the hole is very good. And from snap to second level, he displays a great burst. Like Steven Jackson before him, Cobbs is a tackle-breaking runner who rarely gets knocked back on contact and can run away from defensive backs to paydirt, although just how elusive he is remains a question. A strong senior season and remorse shown in Combine and Senior Bowl interviews, combined with an incentive-laden contract could reap huge benefits for a team looking for a franchise back because that’s what Cobbs can be. The question is, will he follow the path of say a Cecil Collins? Or can he show enough maturity and steer clear of injuries to become the running back that his huge talents deserve?

i could swear i read somewhere that shanny said cobbs would get some carries this year.....guess he meant with someone else

Maybe Chris Brown will follow Henry and migrate from Tennessee to Denver this year.

No, I don't believe that, but without a healthy bunch of Denver RB rumors this board ain't happy.

could this mean that Denver is making space for Michael Turner? maybe Brandon Marshall + Cecil Sapp to San Diego for Turner?

( :football: )

calling it now™:

travis henry is going to be sick this year.

this is due from watching film that jaws broke down of him being a 1 cut back, which is ideal for denver's zone blocking scheme.
