ISIS posts pictures of homosexual thrown from building in Raqqa, people stoning body.
This could go under the Liberals and islam thread.

But - I am going to say this is the second policy that is similar to what the Nazis did. One was religious cleansing and the other was this, elimination of gays. There were pink triangles too in Nazi Germany.

The Nazi thing as we all know is the most overplayed theme in media, politics and the internet, but for once I think this is really getting close to their actual actions.

Odd Jim didn't start a thread about this too. Oh, wait, it didn't involve any Muslims attacking gay people.

Men attacked by anti-gay mob in Nigeria

By Michelle Faul February 15, 2014

ABUJA, Nigeria Assailants armed with wooden clubs and iron bars, screaming that they were going to cleanse their neighborhood of gay people, dragged 14 young men from their beds and assaulted them this week, human rights activists said Saturday.

Four of the victims were marched to a police station, where they allegedly were kicked and punched by police officers who yelled pejoratives at them, said Ifeanyi Orazulike of the International Center on Advocacy for the Right to Health.

Police threatened that the men would be incarcerated for 14 years, he said, the maximum prison sentence under Nigerias new Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, dubbed the Jail the Gays law. Activists have warned the law could trigger attacks such as the one carried out early Thursday in Abuja, the capital of Africas most populous nation.

Mob justice is common in Nigeria, and civil rights organizations have been warning for years of an increase in community violence and the governments failure to curb acts in which people have been beaten to death for perceived crimes such as theft.

"Since the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act was signed, we have expressed concern as a friend of Nigeria that it might be used by some to justify violence against Nigerians based on their sexual orientation, the U.S. Embassy said in a statement Friday. Recent attacks in Abuja deepen our concern on this front."

It's interesting because one major criticism about WW2 from the current generation is "how could people let something as heinous as the holocaust go on for so long"? Yet here we are, amidst the "America should mind their own business" mindset allowing basically the same thing to happen in different parts of the world.

Then again, it's not happening to white people right now.

Isn't Abuja mostly muslim?

Does this help things somehow?

Well one thing we can say in defense of people in the 1930s is they did not have the media reach we have today, not even close, so it could be argued that often they simply "did not know" with some justification, though that's very debatable as to our government at the time. Another thing was that the full horrors of mankind had not been unfolded, people could not really imagine or fathom that such things could be done or happen. Even though there had been the Armenian genocide and things like that people still really did not know.

Times are different, we see it and we know what man can do. I think there is more onus on us.

two troll responses to a serious topic, sigh.
Mine isn't a troll response. It's flippant, to be sure, but it isn't trolling. Groups like ISIS kill people and claim they're spies/homosexuals/Jews/insurgents/whatever all the time, just to have a reason to kill someone. I'd prefer if the news could report things like "ISIS murdered this man/woman/teenager/whatever and claimed as justification that he/she was homosexual."

The religion of the attackers was not identified. If it had been a group of Muslims, I would imagine it would have been reported in the right wing blogosphere with people like Jim linking it and noting how grateful gay people should be that they are living in this country and not under Islamic rule (which I have heard numerous times from others in this forum linking to Muslim anti-gay violence).

The Jim threads get a little confused.

This article is about Nigeria and its anti-gay laws.

http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Africa/2014/0117/Nigerians-applaud-anti-gay-law-as-Islamic-court-hands-out-20-lashes

They have substantial Christian populations but the incident where this happened was in Abuja which is very muslim as well. And the punishments being doled out are muslim. But really that's all a whole other issue.

-> The ISIS thing is really something else though, that's "cleansing", as in rounding up gays, all and every one that can be accused, and executing them in public, painful, horrific ways.
