Determining Dynasty Divisions (1 Viewer)

For those of you in dynasty leagues with divisions (the 12 team, 3 divisions of 4 I see is common), do you keep the same divisions every year? Any complaining from teams, how come I get stuck with the 2 best teams in the league, or how come I can't go be in that weak division?

If the order is shaken up, how do you do it?

Possibilities I was thinking of:

1. Top 3 finishers pick teams to join their conference, (serpentine or standard?)

2. Seed divisions by how they finish the year: trying to make each division equal,

3. Seed divisions by how they finish the year: top 4, middle 4, bottom 4. (the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly)

Should I bother thinking about this, or just say too bad, you're stuck in that division?

What would you want in your division "seeding"?

In my leagues, we let the division winners draft their division mates every year. Not only does it usually balance the divisions reasonably well, it allows for some great smack talk. :goodposting:

run 3 leagues

10 team league(13 year league), 2 divisions of 5

12 team league, 4 divisions of 3

keep divisions the same every year.

2 of my leagues use the same divisions.

The league I commish rotates based off finish- 1-4, 5-8, 9-12. I definitely like this idea. It allows for new rivalries and provides an opportunity for parody. The league seems to like it as well

We've had the same divisions going on our 12th season.
 Going on season 11 here. There were rumblings that we should realign a few years back when one division was significantly stronger, but now the strength has swung in favor of the other division. Jumping the gun on realignment in dynasty leagues can get in the way of the natural cycles of strength that oscillate back and forth between the divisions.

same thing happened with a league I play in. I had a very strong team(won the division like 6 years in a row) and some owners wanted to change things up. now my division is very strong, actually it is hell

We have 4, 3-team divisions in a non-ppr league (two divisions per conference). Between the three of us in my division we have AP, CJ3, MJD, RR, Gore, Mendy, Charles, and Turner. It's hell. We're easily the strongest division but I like it.

It forces us to make smart moves and really play the best FF we can. One bad move (and not just trades, starting lineups too) can screw up your playoff chances, as only one wild card is awarded per conference. Plus, it's more fun. We've developed quite the rivalries over the past couple of years. Any time we play each other the tensions are high.

Because we're that tough, though, the cyclical nature of the game means that in three or four years we won't have the best RBs (if we stand pat anyway). We all missed out on Mathews, Best, Spiller, Wells, Moreno, and McCoy. No one wanted to let us move up in the rookie drafts.

So yeah, just my opinion, but I think keeping divisions the same is better than reshuffling every year.

In our league (16 teams, 4 divisions), we realign every yr with 1-4 in the same division, etc, etc. The top 6 teams (W-L) regardless of division make the playoffs.

16-team ladder/relegated system, 4 teams in 4 divisions. Division winner moves up (obviously not the winner of division one) and the bottom team moves down (obviously not the bottom team in the bottom division).

I am in 2 leagues.

In one league we redo the divisions every 2 years. We pull names out of a hat

In the other league we run the same divisions year after year.

This is our 4th year doing a division draft. Serpentine drafy with the 3 division winners from the year before. It does create some nice animosity and pissed off owners that get picked early.

The 8 years before that we had the same divisions every year.

I think that sort of thing is fun for re-draft, but for dynasty I like keeping the same divisions. The rivalries are great.

I have been commissioner for a league for 20 years now. We have 12 teams with 3 divisions. I have a template schedule that I create and insert the teams based on their previous year finish. I put the playoff teams in based on their playoff finish and the remaining teams based on their regular season standings. I put teams 1, 4, 7 and 10 in Division 1; teams 2, 5, 8 and 11 in Division 2; and teams 3, 6, 9, and 12 in Division 3.

This allows there to always be a schedule set ahead of time with no complaints against the commissioner.
