**Detroit at Kansas City** (-4.5/52.5) Kickoff-Opening Night! (1 Viewer)

I’ve been a fan since Mel Farr and Lem Barney won ORotY and DRotY in 1967. This season, 2023, has the most energized fan base I have ever witnessed. Expectations are high they can compete for the NFC title.

Lions at Chiefs Week 1 trailer

When last season’s schedule came out, Detroit had 17 early games. 1 pm starts every week except Thanksgiving (12:30.) They played their way into the Week 18 Flex but Seattle eliminated them before kickoff. Green Bay was win and in, but the Lions came out with nothing to play for and beat Aaron Rodgers in Lambeau.

They’ve embraced the challenge of playing the Super Bowl champs since it was announced.

“If you’re a competitor, this is what it’s all about. How good are you? Let’s find out.” - MCDC

INJURY REPORTS

LIONS

  • OUT: CB Emmanuel Moseley (knee)
Everyone else was a FP on the final injury report of the week.

CHIEFS

  • QUESTIONABLE: TE Travis Kelce (knee)
WR Kadarius Toney (knee) & CB L'Jarius Sneed (knee) were removed from the final injury report and will play Thursday.

Detroit covers, KC wins. Going to be an awesome game. Not as high scoring as people think, but still high.

Chiefs: 30
Lions: 27
Chiefs D is gonna suck *** without Chris Jones. This might be a fireworks show.

I think the Lions are going to win this.
Annnnnnnnd you're back at it.

Detroit 30
KC. 13

KC will struggle to find offense without Kelce and Detroit's OL dominate without Jones in the lineup.

Take the under all day.

last time Detroit held an opponent to 13 or less on the road was a Week 11 loss in 2021

have to go back to 2018 to find another instance of the Lions giving up 13 or less on the road

Since 2000, more than half of the time Detroit's defense has been 25th or worse, over 1/3rd of the time 30th or worse. The only legit defense they had was in 2014, and the 2023 will be the second. Using historicals of the pathetic Lions history is not a good benchmark to project this team's performance. If KC had some weapons for Mahomes to utilize, they would score. Mahomes is a monster, but he still needs someone to throw to and Detroits pass rush will be all over him.

The total is 53.5. You’re MUCH higher than most people think with your prediction.

Go place a bet.

Key players for Detroit
  • Jared Goff - finished 2022 with the 5th longest streak in NFL history without an interception (324 - Rodgers holds the record, 402.) Still has 9" hands. Home/Road splits: 23 TDs 3 INT/6 TDS 4 INT. One of the most resilient players around, great chemistry with Amon-Ra as well as rookies Jahmyr Gibbs and Sam LaPorta. The rest of the WR corps is collection of misfits. Oldest WR in the NFL (Marvin Jones Jr), Josh Reynolds (7th year playing with Goff....led Detroit in RZ targets inside the 10), and 5'8" PR/Speedster Kalif Raymond (95 catches the last 2 seasons.) Above all else, do no harm. What they need most from Jared is to manage the game and not commit turnovers. Outstanding v the blitz last year, at his best when he has less than 2.5 seconds to throw bc they get the ball out quick by design. Has flourished under OC Ben Johnson.
  • Amon-Ra St Brown - has worked hard at his craft to excel in every area: sure handed, precise route running, best blocking WR in the league, running reverses, neither big nor fast but just a rocked up athlete. Detroit runs a very concentrated scheme and he is a lock to see 10 or more targets most weeks. Has not shown efficiency on deep intermediate or go routes though both he and Johnson have said that may change this season. He's the key to the offense, by far Goff's most trusted receiver.
  • Jahmyr Gibbs - if Detroit gets a splash chunk play it probably comes from the guy they took with the 12th pick - after toying with taking him at #6, bc they had him higher than Bijan Robinson. 4.36 speed, will line up at halfback, slot receiver, flanker, and somewhere we don't expect bc they're very creative. Monty will almost surely play more snaps and have more rush attempts, they won't overload their new playmaker. Amon-Ra says he's faster than Jameson Williams.
  • Sam LaPorta - we should always temper expectations from rookie TEs. Jared says he's the most natural pass catcher he's ever worked with and the rapport with him was instantaneous bc he's always where he is supposed to be. Goff heavily favors receivers who run crisp routes and are on the same page. Tremendous YAC ability. Last year Goff was 25th in ADoT and 5th in YPA.
  • 68-73-77-72-58 - LT Taylor Decker is entering year 8, longest tenure on the team - was a rookie when they last made the playoffs. LG Jonah Jackson, C Frank Ragnow and RT Penei Sewell are all Pro Bowlers. RG Hal Vaitai is returning from major back surgery and has had no setbacks. Veteran Graham Glasgow is a capable backup if needed. Top 5 unit.

  • Aidan Hutchinson - 2nd player of the 2022 Draft had 9.5 sacks as a rookie, and poised to make a jump in Y2. Effective standing up or with his hand in the dirt, will occasionally drop into coverage (3 INT last year), has to be accounted for on every down. Ultra focused local kid who is living his dream.
  • Alim McNeil - transformed his body in the offseason, shedding 13% body fat while still maintaining 320+. Light on his feet, gifted athlete, more 3-tech than NT, capable of rushing passer (10 pressures WK 11 v NYG) but his primary roles are clogging the middle with Benito Jones and containment.
  • James Houston IV - nicknamed "The Problem", designated pass rusher though they are trying to develop him into more of an all around SAM LB. Insane win rate as a rookie pass rusher (8 sacks in 92 pass rushing snaps) but can be undisciplined. PFF Pass Rush grade was 88.2. Expect to see him mostly in passing situations, 25 snaps or less.
  • NASCAR Package - DC Aaron Glenn will sometimes play an entire front of DEs: Edge/5-tech/4-I. Unsung John Cominsky is a force of nature, former 2nd rounders Levi Onwuzurike (own-zur-EE-kay) and Josh Paschal can play anywhere along the line, and the latter was a key factor in Hutch's best games.
  • Jack Campbell - rookie from Iowa may not start - 3rd year pro Derrick Barnes had a great TC/preseason - but he'll be wearing the green dot helmet within a year, if not sooner. Classic Mike LB, 6'5" 243 tackling machine.
  • Brian Branch - the only green room prospect who stuck around after his name didn't get called on Day 1 at the draft. Started for Nick Saban as a freshman. Forced CJ Gardner-Johnson to S bc he can do it all from the Slot corner. Mirror coverage, run support, ferocious hitter who never misses a tackle. Forget the measurables, when you as cerebral and instinctual as Branch - he's always in the right place, understands where every player on the field is at - you play faster than your combine time. Steal of the draft as the 45th pick, was running with the 1s by the end of Week 1 of training camp.
  • Chauncey Gardner-Johnson - extremely vocal ball hawk who led the NFL in interceptions last year. Elite trash talker, backs it up with his play. Like a lot of Detroit DBs he's a multiple who can fill different roles. Has taken over the DB room and become one of the team's biggest leaders since signing his 1-year mercenary deal. Ruthless MFer who annoys opponents.

  • Mr Jack Fox - one of the best punters in the game, Detroit had the number one Special Teams grade in the league last year. PK Holder, also a pretty good passer (3/4 44 yards.)
  • Kalif Raymond - when ARSB was dealing with a HAS put up 75 & 76 yards, down the stretch had 40-66 yards the last 4 weeks. Second hardest worker on team behind ARSB, recently signed an extension. 13.2 on PR last year (1 TD), they'll send him on a couple 9 routes every game - the only Holy Cross player in the league has 4.34 speed.

Pretty low compared to people in this thread haha

They just put up a stat on ESPN. Mahomes is 5-0, 18 TDs - 0 INTs in openers.

I have no idea who will win, but I'm expecting a ton of points.

Ha Ha Ha. Yup.

this is Detroit’s first road trip to Arrowhead since 2003

the last time the Lions were scheduled to play @ KC the game was played in London

(might have been another scheduling SNAFU I’m forgetting about)

truly great atmosphere, tremendous opportunity to see where the team is at

If Mahomes only scores 13 points I will eat my hat.

if you cut it into small squares (or 1/4" strips if you prefer cloth noodles), then let it simmer in broth all day in a slow cooker, it'll go down a lot easier

don't forget to season to taste

:obc:

I’m rooting for the Lions. This would be a huge win on the road in arrowhead against the defending champs. Gotta love the underdog(cat?) story

we are now approximately 150 minutes away from Cris Collinsworth fawning over Mahomes after a checkdown to McKinnon

MIKE JUST WHEN WE THOUGHT WE'D SEEN EVERYTHING HERE'S A GUY WHO IS DOING IT WITHOUT HIS BEST WEAPON
Thank god for the Sirius/XM radio broadcast (y)

Chiefs: Ch. 225
Lions: Ch. 266

what do you do to sync up? I prefer listening to Dan Miller but it’s clumsy trying to get the feed synced with the radio calls (it’s a bit wonky for me trying to get them matched)

Works pretty well on my iPad/iPhone, very little lag. Dapper Dan Miller would be a great choice as well. Anything but Tirico/Collingsworthless.

yeah def easier (for me) on devices, I have a harder time with my LG tv trying to adjust the stream on Sling

guests for the watch party are streaming in so I'll be sporadic tonight....

2023 saw the Detroit Lions sell out their entire home schedule to season ticket holders. that's a Ford Field first, def never happened at the Silverdome. maybe Tiger Stadium back when they won titles in the 1950s but I kind of doubt it.

y'all have no idea how much this game means to Detroit fans.

ONE PRIDE
