I guess it's better than making it too cartoon-like. Needs to look more muscular (hopefully that was just lost when they blew up the image).

Primary mark = primary logo (Jags head in your case)Logotype = wordmark (arched "Jaguars" over the head in your case)

Secondary marks = other logos or fonts...not all teams have these (Jags had a crowned font used in the endzones some)

For the Jags, the arched font was hated by the Team and Retail and avoided on licensed items. So they have tweaked the head and changed the font altogether.
