They keep winning series and staying out of losing streaks. 6 games up in the division and headed to Chicago for 4.I always forget this forum even exists. It’s going to be a fun summer huh?

Also was great seeing a playoff atmosphere in June...it's been years.Another series win vs a high quality ball club in the Cubs. Flaherty was really snapping the ball in and Kahnle/Vest finished the job.
Good to get those out of way. The rest of the schedule could play out well if they continue to avoid rainouts. Fewer double headers to tax this sometimes fragile pitching staff. The Tigers have had 2 grueling stretches where they played 23 games in 24 days. They went 15-8 in one and 14-9 in the other. Pretty damn impressive.
Ask and ye shall receive. Skubal pitching lights out these days. This time one walk vs 13 strikeouts. And Greene is really raking it on offense.Hoping the ace comes up with another gem tomorrow night.
Baez starting in the All-Star game is one of the most unbelievable stories in my life as a sports fan.As a Cubs homer, I am tremendously happy for Javy Baez and his selection as an All-Star starter.
He was a beloved member of the 2016 team. I was sad to see him traded away but that trade brought back Pete Crow-Armstrong. I know he has had struggles, but it is great to see him battle back and prosper for the Tigers.
Congrats El Mago.
The bubble burst today. Enns got hammered.Tigers get a series win but the bigger story is their reclamation project that started the game. Almost 4 years between major league starts,
Dietrich Enns looked very impressive throwing 5 innings of one hit ball.
Well it was a nice story while it lasted. The bubble burst today. Enns got hammered.
Welcome back Olson needed him today. Don’t want the Indians getting ideas. Tigers are going to look at some pitching help before the trade deadline.Well it was a nice story while it lasted. The bubble burst today. Enns got hammered.
Cleveland up next, always a tough matchup for Tigers it seems. Olson-Mize-Skubal on the mound for this series.
They definitely need a couple of late inning bullpen arms. Kahnle has been getting hammered lately so there is a lot of concern there. Vest can't do it by himself. They look like a team that lost focus the last week before the break and were planning their vacation a little too early. They also look like a team that could use an infusion of talent to bolster what they have, especially in the bullpen.
But having said that, they really did have a great first half, lots of players many of us had given up on stepping up big. A double digit lead in the division and the best record in baseball. I don't recall anyone predicting that. Now it's up to the players and management to keep it up when in counts down the stretch.
Every time I watch Kahnle pitch his stuff look so mediocre at best. Would never trust him late in a big game. Throw a change 75% of the time and when it hangs it is like batting practice. They definitely need a couple of late inning bullpen arms. Yeah baseball is a grind. I hope they make some upgrades at the deadline.Tigers are 14-17 since the middle of June. They don't look good right now, can't hit, starting pitching inconsistent, bullpen is a disaster. I'm concerned.
It's getting painful to watch them right now. This is a team that definitely needs its deck reshuffled.Yeah baseball is a grind. AJ reshuffles the deck every day. Not sure if we’ve even had the same lineup once all season![]()
Yes they seem to have a shortage of cards for AJ to work from. Let's get him a couple new ones.Right now there's a few cards missing from the deck. It's getting painful to watch them right now. A bunch of underwhelming trades imo.
And there are countless examples of going all in that don't work out either. There is no perfect or guaranteed way of winning anything. And the stars still have to align either way.A bunch of underwhelming trades imo.
Did Scott Harris really say they didn't want to make a trade that might haunt us?
I am not saying be stupid, but if that is his mindset then I highly doubt they ever win the world series unless they perfectly thread the needle or all the stars perfectly align.

Personally I would have pushed the envelope a little more. But I don't pretend to know the details of proposed trades or just how good some of these guys are. That's the GMs job and so far he seems to be doing ok in terms of current record and continued contention. But if they don't win the WS this year (something every team is less than a lock to do) it's not like a different path would automatically get them there. And there are countless examples of going all in that don't work out either. I just said don't do anything stupid. There is a big line between all in and what the Tigers are doing and being cheap has shown to give you less of a chance.

There is no auto path with anything, but for most of this season they have been the best team in the league. They should act like it, especially when it sounds like a lot of the guys they had interest in when for less than expected.
I love the show breaking bad and one of my favorite parts of that show is when Walter and Mike are talking about when Mike was a cop and he took a half measure and how poorly it turned it. It seems like all our local teams are taking half measures and I hate it.

Not before they made a **** ton of money.

And actually the half measure did get Mike killed. He tried to thread the needle when Lydia put the hit on him and Walt was in debt and had to borrow 40k from Jesse. Big difference from buying a car wash for 800k and 81 million.
John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander is a pretty good example. And there are countless examples of going all in that don't work out either

As a Cubs homer I can relate: Dylan Cease for Jose Quintana and Josh Donaldson for Rich Harden. Both trades were made because the Cubs needed one solid starter down the stretch, and mortgaged the future as a result.
