***Detroit Tigers thread: 1st pick yet again, this is not fun*** (2 Viewers)

Dombrowski has got to call some players in and tell them to stop talking about the fans because Ausmus is not. Tigers draw 3 million a year. Nathan, Hunter, Kinsler, V-Mart and Ian Krol have all ran their chops about the fans. What the #### is Krol doing even opening his mouth??

Nathan had the nuts to say that he has pitched well the last month or so after a rough start.

What did VMart say?
Nothing bad...just saying that the fans need to stop booing and get behind the team during rough stretches. Hunter said "The fans don`t realize that we are all working hard" I have never heard players talk so much about the fans. Krol sounded like a whiney little ##### on the radio. Ausmus or DD should call him in right away and tell him to ####. Terry Foster said the locker room is very edgy..and not in a good way. Foster went on to say that even though people did not like some of Leylands moves on the field that he had total control over the locker room and would have never allowed the players to comment on the fans..that he would have addressed it to take the heat off the players. Ausmus is saying nothing about nothing.. Foster said that Ausmus looks and sounds a little bewildered right now and the team feels it.

Who knows?

I don't trust ANYTHING Terry Foster writes about a locker room. "The locker room is disintegrating" has been his go to schtick for years: Tigers, Pistons, Lions, 1989-2014, pick any two.

Here's a quick look at the next series for the Detroit Tigers:

Opponent: Tampa Bay Rays

Site: Tropicana Field in St Petersburg, Florida

Records: Tigers, 66-56 (2nd in AL Central); Rays 61-63 (4th in AL East)

Schedule

Tuesday: RHP Max Scherzer (14-4, 2.98 ERA) vs. RHP Chris Archer (8-6, 3.24 ERA), 7:10 p.m., FSD

Wednesday: RHP Rick Porcello (13-8, 3.28 ERA) vs. RHP Jake Odorizzi (9-9, 3.82 ERA), 7:10 p.m., FSD

Thursday: LHP David Price (12-8, 3.12 ERA) vs. RHP Alex Cobb (8-6, 3.19 ERA), 1:10 p.m., FSD, MLB Network

Scouting the Rays: The Tigers welcomed outfielder Austin Jackson back to Detroit last week. This week, the Rays will welcome back David Price, who was dealt to the Tigers as part of the three-team trade that sent starting pitcher Drew Smyly to Tampa and Jackson to Seattle. The Tigers will avoid facing Smyly, who started Saturday in New York and has a 2.25 ERA in three starts with Tampa. Price, meanwhile, will take the mound against his former teammates Thursday in the finale of a three-game series. The Rays have allowed three or fewer runs in 12 of their last 13 games, but have won only seven games during that span. Tampa's offense hit .205 during a three-game series in New York en route to losing two of three. The Rays, who are a game behind .500, are 10 games back of division-leading Baltimore in the AL East and 6 1/2 games behind Seattle in the wild-card standings.

Based on the SPs, we'll win three games here with Max, Porcello, and Price. But I was reading how JD, Torii, Kinsler have all been lousy in the back half of the season here. Even Cabrera has been getting by without HRs. We need for some hitters to get hot.

The Pistons had some of the worst locker rooms in the NBA over the last decade.

That being true doesn't make Foster any less of a rabble rousing ashole.

Terry Foster is worthless. Detroit sportstalk radio drives the negativity, and now they're making a negative story about the negativity. That said, the players stink on the road, at home, everywhere. So they might want to work on that and worry less about what the fans are doing.

While the Tigers are playing so many road games in August, the Royals are into a pretty easy stretch with Colorado, Texas, twins and Yankees the next two weeks. Hard to not think the Royals will be up at least five games going into September.

GAME NOTES
-- Tigers starter Max Scherzer is having an excellent season, but he has been even better in the second half. Scherzer is 3-1 with a 1.90 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings since the All-Star break. Opposing batters are hitting .219 against him during that time.

-- Tonight the Tigers will start a stretch during which they will play 24 games in 23 days, thanks to doubleheaders on each of the next two Saturdays. They are in the midst of a stretch during which they are playing 55 games in 55 days.

-- It is a small sample size (49 plate appearances), but current Tigers players are hitting .227 (10 for 44) with three extra-base hits and a .692 OPS against Rays starter Chris Archer.

-- Current Rays hitters are batting .200 (26 for 130) with a .620 OPS against Scherzer. Five different Rays players each have one home run against Scherzer.

-- Torii Hunter has batted in the second spot in the lineup 36 times this season, but he is in the second spot tonight for the first time since June 29

-- Tropicana Field is a dome, so the weather in St. Petersburg, Fla., won't play a factor in the game tonight. Unless it knocks out the power or something.

I really think their best chance is the #2 wildcard. One game playoff with either max or price gives them a shot to advance to the next round at least. Who knows what happens after that.

Now Joba sucks, terrific.
####, Joba! Bases loaded, 1-2 count on the #8 hitter, and you can't keep the stinkin' ball down? ####! Max gets screwed again.

Max at 112 pitches after 7 ...keep him in to at least get the first out or two and shorten the screw-up window for the bullpen.

VMart looks like he's 90 all of a sudden, four pop outs tonight.

This team is going to have a hot streak I think, but it's simply not good right now. Starting pitching is good not great, all the other components are pretty bad.

Down 4-0 early but nice job battling back. JDM with a no doubter to center. Great job by Hardy in the 9th. Awesome K for Johnson to end the 10th (was that 10 fouls?).

Hard to believe the difference from the first half.

Appears that way on paper, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some regression. The Royals have won 6/7 (or if you prefer, 14/16, 17/20 and 22/27). 14th in Runs, 17th OBP, 15th SPct - I don't see KC keeping up this pace. Helluva a back end to the bullpen, though. Herrera/Davis/Holland are as good as it gets. :jealous:

Verlander will start Saturday.

STARTING PITCHERS

Detroit Tigers
Rick Porcello (13-8, 3.28 ERA)

3. Matt Joyce, LF (2 for 10, HR, 2 BBss, 3 SOs)

7. Yunel Escobar, SS (1 for 5, RBI)
8. Curt Casali, C
9. Kevin Keirmaier (0 for 3, RBI)

GAME NOTES

-- Rick Porcello is tied for third in the American League in pitching victories with 13. Only fellow Tigers starter Max Scherzer and Oakland Athletics starter Scott Kazmir have more. Scherzer and Kazmir each have 14 wins.

-- Porcello would match his career high in wins if he picks up the victory tonight. He went 14-9 in 2009 and 2011.

-- Ezequiel Carrera is the lone Tigers player who has faced Rays right-hander Jake Odorizzi in the majors. Carrera is hitless in three career at-bats against Odorizzi.

-- The Rays activated Wil Myers (wrist) from the disabled list and inserted him into the lineup as the designated hitter.

-- Rajai Davis needs just one stolen base to reach 300 steals for his career.

-- The Tigers announced that J.D. Martinez has been charged with an error on a fly ball by Munenori Kawasaki of the Toronto Blue Jays during an Aug. 8 game at toronto. That means starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez has been charged with three earned runs in that game instead of four.

-- Tropicana Field is a dome. The weather inside will be nice. They'll get the game in.

Rays left Odorizzi in for the 7th inning? Why? What a gift ...thanks. He was sloppy in the 6th. I was sure he was done. 2 6-0 lead. Let's go, Porcello! Make it a CG!

Tigers fans should spend less time complaining about the Fister trade, which doesn't impact this season in the slightest, and complain more about the Avisail Garcia trade. Sure would be nice to have him in CF right now.

wouldnt mind having julio at SS either, hes hurt though and they needed someone with Jhonny roid suspended last year

The Fister trade was not a good one. I liked Garcia a lot, but the Fister trade was purely a dollars call, but it probably will end up costing more in the long run. But we have the team we have. Bullpen is still the biggest sore spot.

The difference is the Garcia trade made sense at that time. Fister trade did not.
No the difference is Fister wasn't needed, and isn't now. Garcia is needed.

Trades aren't graded at the time they are made like you think they are, and the Garcia/Iglesias trade looks pretty bad right now because it was made for a moment in time. The Fister trade was made with 2016 in mind.

Yeah and now he's gonna cost a bunch. Sigh

Guess it's a good problem to have, especially when you draft a guy and see him to this point. If they make the playoffs, he's going to deserve a ton of the credit.

First b2b road wins in 4 weeks.

Price going tomorrow. He said he's not looking forward to facing his friends. They played a highlight tribute of him last night and the fans gave him a standing O.

Buck Farmer coming up to Minneapolis to pitch Saturday.

With all due respect, having Fister would have made a difference.
