Always nice when your backup catcher hits a triple.

That was a great catch by Eaton.McCann was McRobbed.
Two more RBIs today than he had all year coming into the game.Only problem with Yoenis Céspedes is that I am awful at pronouncing his name.
Iggy makes it look too easy. The fact he is hitting the ball so well, is just ridiculous. I doubt he can keep being one of the top hitters in the league, but if he does, he has to be considered for MVP.That was a great catch by Eaton.McCann was McRobbed.
The play Iglesias just made - I guess we just expect him to make those plays now. He's awesome.
On pace for 135 RBI.Two more RBIs today than he had all year coming into the game.Only problem with Yoenis Céspedes is that I am awful at pronouncing his name.
In the books.
Well if he could just do that every game he'd be the first with 300 homers and 900 RBIs in a season. On pace for 135 RBI.Two more RBIs today than he had all year coming into the game.Only problem with Yoenis Céspedes is that I am awful at pronouncing his name.

Can we see some magic number tracking in here as well? With 4 double plays turned yesterday I of course had to wonder where they are standing in relation to the all time record.

   This is the
stuff that makes talking baseball with my daughter (math and stats major) fun. Around the first of each month or so, I plan updating this with where they would stand all time if they hit their projected number. My guess is that they will break one of these records (hoping for the least errors) and will go top 5 all time in a couple of others. I was 16 in 1984 and made it to around 20 games that year as my Dad had an in with Ritchie Hebner. During the summer, I'd get a call about 45 minutes before game time to "get your ### downtown, nobody is using Ritchie's tickets today". I'd rush downtown to the box office and the tickets would shoot up via one of those old school bank tubes. I would study the box scores and stats in the Detroit News, especially the pitching stats. I hope my kids can live some form of similar excitement this year.I would have given JD an error yesterday. His misplay of the ball is what allowed the 'earned' run against Greene. My guess is that they will break one of these records (hoping for the least errors) and will go top 5 all time in a couple of others.
I agree, I even did some quick math in my head at the time (its a sickness) on the impact of adding a 4th error, putting them even with the Orioles record of 54. If he had dove and stopped the ball, I would have thought that would have been a base hit, but the outright whiff should have been an error.I would have given JD an error yesterday. This reminds me of the summer we went RV around the mid-Atlantic for several weeks one summer. I had the Free Press from the day we left with all the Tigers batting/pitching stats, which I had copied a green 14-column accounting worksheet (those sheets you folded over to keep a general ledger.) Then I would get the local paper each morning for the previous nights box score and update the stats.Let's not get ahead of ourselves hereCan we see some magic number tracking in here as well? With 4 double plays turned yesterday I of course had to wonder where they are standing in relation to the all time record.

Who is leading the league in hitting.Iglesias is just incredible. Great defensive SS.
A definite WEB GEM: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:12732324I have never seen a shortstop go deep in the hole and be able to throw the ball that quickly. There are a handful of SS who could have gotten an out on that play, but no one who would have thrown an exceptionally fast runner out by a step and a half.
I think you are probably leaving out Andrelton Simmons, but besides him, I think Iglesias is the best defensive SS.I have never seen a shortstop go deep in the hole and be able to throw the ball that quickly. I am not saying who the best is, and I have not seen Simmons all that much, I have just never seen a SS make a throw that quickly. Most others do some kind of jump spin or try to plant their foot and fire a rocket, both of which take a lot more time to execute. Iglesias had that ball out of his glove and directed towards first in less than a step.I think you are probably leaving out Andrelton Simmons, but besides him, I think Iglesias is the best defensive SS.I have never seen a shortstop go deep in the hole and be able to throw the ball that quickly. League average bat in 2013 and hitting the cover off it this year. A little hasty to call him no bat.Dan called it like a kid watching his heroes play the game. It was a joy to listen to. This kid is so good. Too bad he is all glove and no bat....
Peace
I'm not sold on his plate discipline yet, but everything else is there for him to hit .300+.Obviously Iggy is not going to hit .450 for the year, but can he maintain a .300 plus average? He has quick hands. He is disciplined at the plate. I am not sure his hitting is a fluke. I think he can hit .300 for the season.
Thru 6 inning Detroit has hit into 5 or 6. The record is 6....they could crush itIt seems the purpose of detroit getting runners on today is to set up the double play. It seems like one every inning so far.
Simmons might be the best defensive SS I've ever seen, no shtick.I think you are probably leaving out Andrelton Simmons, but besides him, I think Iglesias is the best defensive SS.I have never seen a shortstop go deep in the hole and be able to throw the ball that quickly. Ausmus sure didn't help things in the 7th inning, bringing Krol in to face a righty at that point in the game was moronic. Not a good showing by the bullpen. Al Al, Krol, and Gorzelanny were all terrible. But scoring two runs against a sub-par pitcher is not a good showing and it is where the blame for this loss has to go. The offense lately has been struggling, only getting saved by some outstanding pitching and defense.
I just got back from a little run in Boston, and I was talking baseball with a local guy for a while after the race. He was a huge Iglesias fan, saying that if Iggy would even hit .250-.275 or so, that would be enough to justify the move Detroit made. This guy was really high on what Detroit has done here to assemble a great team.Simmons might be the best defensive SS I've ever seen, no shtick.I think you are probably leaving out Andrelton Simmons, but besides him, I think Iglesias is the best defensive SS.I have never seen a shortstop go deep in the hole and be able to throw the ball that quickly. Also I don't think Iglesias is a .300 hitter, but he doesn't need to be either. If he finishes with a .300 OBP, I'd be ecstatic.
