***Detroit Tigers thread: 1st pick yet again, this is not fun*** (2 Viewers)

I don't get too high with the highs, or too low with the lows...but Joba can kiss my black ###.
He's the worst

I've never liked him, but my hate really grew when I was at a game last year and he served up a meatball to David Ortiz that looked like it was going to hit the right field concourse

He is having a decent season, it just seems like he stinks at the worst time. Without the rain delay, I think we win that game.
 by what metric? His 5.6 K/9? That 1.47 WHIP? Oh sure his ERA is low because he's letting inherited runners score

He's garbage...pure and simple
Point taken. And what makes it worse is Ausmus has a tendency to put him in in key situations.

The Royals are a much more consistent ball club and will probably win about 95 games. The Tigers have spurts where they put it all together, but have too many times where they don't show up. The Tigers are going to miss the playoffs if they think they can glide through the season. I don't see this team winning more than 90 games. Maybe sneak into a wildcard.

When the Tigers bring in a reliever with runners on base, they might as well have the umps point to home because you know they are all gonna score. Reminds me of one of my high school gfs.

Also why Sad Brad put JV back out there for the 7th is obnoxious, he was at 100 pitches. Why is he throwing 117 down two runs in the 7th? ####### stupid.

They need to get rid of Gorzelanny. He has been terrible for most of the season and lefties are hitting over .300 against him. I could see keeping him if he could at least get lefties out but without that he is useless.
Why on earth is this guy still on the team?

Three of the worst players in the American League: Carlos Beltran, Didi Gregorious, and Nate Eovaldi are dominating this stellar bunch of Tigers.

Also great of the bullpen yet again to let all the inherited runners score. I mean that was the end of the game right there. :lmao:

My thought exactly. 117 pitches in his second start back and when he wasn't pitching that well anyway. Brad: "Mr. Verlander, let me know when you'd like to come out."

Tough day today - Tigers getting roughed up bad (down 10-0) while Max throws a no-hitter. Very ouch, baby.

Miggy pissed at J.D.?
Briefly caught something about this on talk radio...what happened?
Not sure but those two are supposed to be pretty tight off the field. Probably because they stink and tempers are flaring. Can't imagine spending six straight months with a bunch of competitive guys, disagreements have to be common.

Also Castellanos has been benched which is fine, but he might be better off being sent down to work on some things. Ruining this plus bat would be devastating going forward.

J.D. Martinez had three homers in Sunday's 12-4 win over the Yankees -- the 23rd time a Tiger has accomplished that feat:

Ty Cobb, at St. Louis, 1925

Pinky Higgins, vs. Boston, 1940

Rudy York, vs. St. Louis, 1941

Pat Mullin, at Yankees, 1949

Al Kaline, vs. Kansas City, 1955

Charlie Maxwell, vs. Yankees, 1959

Rocky Colavito, at Washington, 1961

Rocky Colavito, at Cleveland, 1962

Steve Boros, at Cleveland, 1962

Willie Horton, vs. Milwaukee, 1970

Bill Freehan, at Boston, 1971

Larry Herndon, vs. Oakland, 1982

Bill Madlock, vs. Baltimore, 1987

Cecil Fielder, at Toronto, 1990

Cecil Fielder, at Cleveland, 1990

Cecil Fielder, at Toronto, 1996

Bobby Higginson, vs. Mets, 1997

Bobby Higginson, at Cleveland, 2000

Carlos Pena, at Cleveland, 2003

Dmitri Young, vs. Kansas City, 2005

Miguel Cabrera, vs. Oakland, 2010

Miguel Cabrera, at Texas, 2013

J.D. Martinez, at Yankees, 2015

35-34 with 93 games left to play. Probably need 90 wins or close to it for a playoff spot this season.

Can this team if healthy go 55-38 the rest of the way?

Anyone got anything on Kyle Ryan? Going to the game tonight. Indians often struggle with young arms they haven't seen before and their lefty heavy lineup ideally should favor Ryan as well. They kinda couldn't hit the broad side of a barn this weekend either, so we got that going for us too.

Possible but not probable. They will need everything to start breaking their way, which includes the other playoff contenders not running away from them.

Yeah, I am not seeing this team winning the division. They could, but I think KC plays well more consistently and will be tough to pass. I am thinking they win about 86-88 games. Maybe V-Mart can spark this team, and maybe the starting rotation will come around.

Wildcard might be their best shot as KC seems like "one of those teams"

Define healthy, I don't think Victor will be himself until next year. Speaking of which can someone monitor his off season workouts? This is twice since he became a Tiger he has messed his knee up during off season workouts. I am also leery of what Verlander will give us, I know he will never be 2011 JV again, but he has to be better than the last couple of years.

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians have shifted against Miguel Cabrera. But the shift Indians manager Terry Francona suggested Monday afternoon would be a new one.

Francona joked that the Indians could station outfielder Michael Bourn beyond the fence in center field against Cabrera, who was hitting .647 against the Indians this season heading into their series opener Monday night.

"He's certainly had his way with us and I hope that changes," Francona told reporters at Progressive Field prior to the game. "I've tried everything. ... We could shift him and put Bourny out behind the shrubs."
:lmao:

Anthony Gose needs to learn how to hit the ball on the ground more or he's always going to be mediocre. A safety squeeze with Iglesias at third would have been awesome, instead he flies to very shallow LF.

Good job by Brad by pulling Tyan early. All season he has been letting the starter get clobbered before the hook came out.

Here is the lineup I would go with for now:

Iglesias

Kinsler

Cabrera

VMart

JD

Cespedes

Rajai/Gose

Romine

McCann

Some observations:

Castellanos is hitting .286 against LH pitching and .202 against RH pitchers, so for now I would platoon him with Romine.

Avila has a much higher OPS against righties than McCann, so when he comes back I would platoon them.

Gose is struggling so Davis should play against some right handers.

I am definitely worried about Soria. He has already given up 7 HRs (including one in each of his last 4 games). 7 is a career worst already and a staggering number given it is only June. If he keeps doing that we are toast.

Gorzellany has to go. He has been terrible.

The 5th starting spot is a problem. I don't know what can be done right now but I don't think Ryan is the answer.

The bullpen is a disaster. I don't think one addition is enough. We will never win with this bullpen.

Platooning 3rd, CF, and catcher makes a lot of sense.
Yes, you can put in an all RH lineup against LHPs & four LH hitters vs RHPs.

I do like the idea of flipping Iggy to leadoff, at least vs lefties.

As far as the bullpen goes, at least Hardy looks like an inning eater that can be useful at times.

Bruce Rondon has not allowed a run in his last 4 games...4 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K.
Kind of why I am hopeful we only need to add one arm in the bullpen. Only one of Soria's HR were meaningful, the 13th inning GS to the Reds. Soria's biggest problem of late is that it has been a while since the Tigers have been in position to give him a save opportunity. A lot of slop duty.

So the blown saves vs the Astros and White Sox weren't meaningful? Why? The white sox blown save was after they had lost seven straight.

I was focusing on the last 4 games in a row in which he gave up HR. June has not been a good month for Soria.
