***Detroit Tigers thread: 1st pick yet again, this is not fun*** (8 Viewers)

Apparently there are as many as ten teams interested in Cespedes. Soria has a limited trade clause to like three teams, although one is the Yankees. He might be hard to move.

I donated my tigers/o's tickets to charity for tomorrow, but since Norris is starting Sunday, I'll probably go to that one.

Soria to the Pirates.
Because we need another SS in a couple/few years? What am I missing on this one?
After doing some reading, if he can improve the hit tool he's destined for the OF (CF). You have to remember most of these guys played SS, Castellanos did, Torii Hunter did, hell even Miggy probably did. He looks more like an organizational depth play with upside, we'll see.

This. He's not going to translate to a SS in the majors. He's got a fair bit of upside.

Keith Law on Jones:

■On Jones: "Very athletic. He's played second at LSU. I've seen him play second and short. I just talked to a pro scout who had that club and he didn't know Jones history at all but that was the first kid he wanted to talk about.

"The problem is he's never really performed, not since his freshman year at LSU. And he's gone through so many swing changes. It could click. He could be one of those guys that gets to 25, 26 and suddenly it comes together. But it has never happened for him. He's gone through so many swing changes, really clashed with the coach at LSU."

■On Jones' athleticism: "He's super athletic, it's really one of the best looking physically body type/quick twitch of any college player I've scouted. George Springer is physical, where Jones is more wiry. You just don't see kids that athletic in college typically."

■On Jones as a super-utility guy: "That's what I was thinking. Because he can play them all well. He wants to play shortstop. He likes playing shortstop. When LSU took him off shortstop he wasn't happy about it because that's his natural position. I would try to cycle him through all three of those ... you never know when some injuries can create an opportunity. ... Ultimately it's going to come down to whether he hits."

Unconfirmed: Cespedes to Mets.

So the Tigers got assets for Price and Cespedes (assuming this trade goes through). They got a little something for Soria. As mentioned, I'd rather they kept Soria in case they do get rolling. The Tigers still lead the league in BA (and 4h in slugging). It would just take a few breaks to swing them back into the playoff battle, and Soria could help. But they've done the smart thing by trading the key FAs.

I read today, also, that there may have been a misconception around here and now the Tigers will be able to negotiate with Cespedes in the offseason just not the exclusive window.

Scouts split in Fulmer. at the beginning of the year he wasn't considered a top prospect but he's been awesome in AA this year. BP said two days ago, "he's built to eat innings."

Correct. But they also said he translates to middle relief unless he improves his fastball command and/or finds a third pitch.

Inning eater straight from dr dipchit's sources!

Ha
Again, that would be BP. You could be better at the Internet, but you don't seem very bright.
Yea i guess i should have used the internet better. I shouldnt have rushed to post 1 persons opinion on a player as the end all be all, instread maybe actually finding out more info about said player before posting about him.

Oh that was you dipchit.

actually my first link was to the article saying he was a future ace, ace. Good meltdown though, I enjoyed it.

Innings eater.

You're still lonely I see. Do u ever take a break from posting in this forum? Haha. U really couldn't be more pathetic.

Really.

Well whatever money they were going to spend on Price I hope is invested in the bullpen. Andrew Miller would have looked like a very nice signing right about now.

DD, once they shake out who is going where after this week and set the rotation in Toledo, which of these young pitchers would you most want to go see. I've wanted to get down there to see a game for a while and this week's swaps have made it more interesting. My daughter loves baseball and at the moment I would rather drive an hour + down 75 to see a game than drive 15 minute to drive downtown to see the big club. TIA for any advice you can share.

ETA, looks like I'll need a scouting report on Lehigh Valley as well. Targeting either Tuesday or Wednesday night this coming week.

I'm going to see Norris tomorrow.

I think Fulmer is the most interesting guy to see but he's going to Erie not Toledo. Cessa is going to Toledo though, I'd love to see him because I don't know a ton about him. Boyd is going to Toledo also, I have seen him pitch before. Think Mike Maroth with more Ks. He starts tonight for the Hens so he wouldn't pitch again until Thursday at the earliest.

I honestly don't follow Toledo much at all, I keep a close eye on Erie especially and then West Michigan and Lakeland. So if you go, post an eye witness account of what you saw.

Looks like Cessa pitched Thursday so that would put him in line with your schedule. Keep an eye on Mudhens site for pitcher match-ups (not reliable beyond 48 hours).

Thanks!! Looks like either Tuesday or Thursday of this week are going to work. I think having Holiday catching down there, with as much big league experience as he has, should help in the development of the young pitchers.

..like having an ex-major league catcher coaching the team ...said coach can recognize when a pitcher's ready, or when he is tiring. All the things that give a team an extra edge with their pitching. Oh, wait ...

A good win for the team today! Every time they win, I anticipate a hot streak. But it never comes. :kicksrock:

One hard hit ball off Norris all day. Shocking the number of soft grounders and pop ups the Orioles hit today, Norris had them completely off balance. Was awesome to see in person.

Down at Erie newly acquired JaCoby Jones hit three homers today.

Could not have asked for a better debut..it was David Price like.

They are going to need him to be good since most of the current pitching staff is a mess.

Well, a key series with KC. If JV can stay hot and get the Tigers off to a good start, maybe we win a few and inch forward in the WC race.

Congratulations to Mike Hessman who became the real-life Crash Davis last night, hitting his 433rd career minor league home run.
