That was one of the most impressive pitching performances of the year. He got the fastball up to 98 today but it was the devastating slider and him mixing in the change that led to all the swinging strikes. Not sure how consistent he'll be but we just witnessed his upside, and it's pretty high.![]()
So who is out when Norris is ready? Has to be Pelfrey.![]()
I was really impressed with his changeup because it is still a work in progress. His slider is already major league sick. If he keeps throwing the changeup like he did today and commands his fastball, the sky's the limit.
It's been quite a while since a starting pitching prospect excited me this much. He just needs to be consistent and that comes with experience. He definitely is not afraid. I also think he took today's start as a personal challenge because Shane Greene is close to returning. He was up for the challenge.![]()
He's just learning the change. If you throw a flat change-up, it's getting smashed by ML hitters. Also Fulmer going from 98mph fastball to 85mph change up is filthy. I don't know why he was holding back the change up but that pitch may lead to him becoming an ace.
MRI tomorrow but both he and team are upbeat. They have an off day where they can skip him, and he wouldn't have to pitch until a week from Wednesday in Anaheim.Any word on Zimmerman. A pulled groin can be very serious.
Just not feeling it. It has a good beat, but can't dance to it.Nick The Stick actually flashing some leather. His new name might be Leather Nick.
I see two things which contributed to the turn around:Doctor Detroit said:$Rod
Are we going to give Brad credit for winning 7 of 8 like we gave him blame for losing 10 of 11?![]()
Of course not...Cambin gets the credit for providing the spark for winning. When they lose it is Brads fault.Doctor Detroit said:$Rod

hopefully he moves on to the eating meatloaf during post game interview shtick soonOf course not...Cambin gets the credit for providing the spark for winning. When they lose it is Brads fault.
Actually I am kinda liking Brad now. Ever since his meltdown he has been a little grumpier with the media..makes for better interviewss
It would be great if he was possessed by Leyland's spirit, even if Jim is still alive.hopefully he moves on to the eating meatloaf during post game interview shtick soon
Do you "Coke" any of them? This is the first time in recent memories that I don't "Inge" a guy on the team.
No. But I am on the verge of "McCanning" one of them.Do you "Coke" any of them?
Is Upton the highest paid #7-8 hitter in MLB?It is huge to see Justin starting to mature as a pitcher. Also big to see Maybin take the leadoff spot and run with it. That will really give the Tigers a sick lineup. Maybin, Kinsler, Miggy, Victor, Nick, JD, Upton, Salty/Mc, Iggy. The first seven are sick and even 8 and 9 can hurt you. One of the Tigers best lineups ever. I think dropping Upton to the 6th or 7th spot might even bring him out of his slump. The Tigers need to get about 5 plus over .500 by the break and then pickup a good starter and they will be set for a run to the playoffs.
Isn't Pelfrey like the 3rd starter?Starting to feel real good about three of our starters. Assuming JZimm recovers 100 percent, we are now just trying to find guys to be our 4th and 5th starter. Fulmer and Maybin could be what makes this season.
He was brought in to give them a veteran 5th starter. Not sure why they paid him so much. He was an expensive gamble.Isn't Pelfrey like the 3rd starter?
Get too quick of a trigger and then you burn out the pen, which isn't good enough to rely on more of them in higher leverage situations. Besides, Zimm isn't even pitching yet and Fulmer is probably on an ip limit.I know Brad desperately wants to get 6+ innings out of his starters, but the only ones who showed they can do that is JV, JZ, and Fulmer. Brad needs to have a trigger finger with the rest after 5 innings. We have to stop this giving up 3 runs in the sixth crap. A base-runner or two with no outs and you are gone.
Loved watching him pitch in West Michigan last year. He was a lights out closer for them when they won the championship. Was in the Futures Game last year too. I am hoping for great things from him given the state of the bullpen. The Tigers promoted their future closer, Joe Jiminez to Double A Erie. All he did in Lakeland was pitch 17 innings, allowed no runs, 5 hits, 5 walks (0.58 WHIP) with 28 strikeouts. His overall minor league numbers are sick. He throws a high 90s fastball with late movement and a swing and miss slider.
I can't wait to see how he does against better hitters. In his first game in Erie, he struck out the side.![]()
What means this?God bless Brad for letting Verlander coach the team again tonight.
