Love McCann coming through with a clutch single.
He's taking the place of everyone's favorite whipping boy Pelfrey, so it should be an upgrade.Kind of interesting that Fulmer and JV rank 4th and 5th amoung AL pitchersin WAR according to ESPN. JZ comes in at 50th. JZ returns on Thursday. Hopefully gets back to early season form.
Ausmus is just playing the odds. Aviles has a stellar .187 lifetime batting average against Sale. Almost a must start, IMHO.Ausmus starting Aviles in RF today over JD. Fantastic.
FWIW he was only called up today because Pelfrey went to the DL. He had played a double header in Toledo yesterday and was due to be off today, and activated Friday from the DL.Ausmus starting Aviles in RF today over JD. Fantastic.
What they need to do is find out what they are doing to beat the Indians.Tigers need to send flowers to the TWINS, killing da indians
Four more outs, he left in the 7th. Great outing for sure, one bad pitch and then he kind of melted down. Nice job by Greene getting that last out and then pitching a clean 8th giving them a chance to win. Greene, JWil, and K-Rod is a pretty good back end.It is a shame that Fulmer could not hold on for one more out and get the W. Another Great outing.
yeah, the HR was in the bottom of 8th. It is good to see this team getting its Mojo and people are stepping up. Starting pitching is razor thin, but top 3 are solid (well assuming JZ comes back healthy and effective). Been nice to get a few decent starts out of the bottom of the rotation for once. Three good arms in the pen with Jimenez waiting in the wings. Lineup produces from top to bottom. Infield defense is solid with a great DP combo. Very good defensively at catcher (18 HRs/64 RBIs between McCann and Salty is pretty damn good offensive production too despite the .200 BA). The weakest link is the outfield defensively sucks. Not having Moya out there will help, but still one of the worst in the league. Not really the tops in the league in anything, but top 5 in several areas. Just lacking depth in both starting and relief pitching and autrocious in the outfield. Fulmer and Maybin and K-Rod were critical additions. Miggy seems to be swinging the bat better. It is fun when they are competitive. Unfortunately, this team is capable of going ice cold.Four more outs, he left in the 7th. Great outing for sure, one bad pitch and then he kind of melted down. Don't tell GildoToday's outing matched the shortest of Tigers pitcher Jordan Zimmermann's entire career, according to ESPN Stats and Information. Zimmermann now has a 6.44 ERA since May 1 after posting an MLB-best 0.55 ERA in April.
Well about the only good thing about Norris being injured so much is that he should be able to pitch innings down the stretch, if necessary. He pitched great for Toledo last night.Bobcat10 said:The young arms are entering uncharted waters as far as innings go.
A little premature to be counting out JZ, but he has been going downhill from his awesome start. Have to hope he was just rusty and will find his form again. This team has little chance of going anywhere without getting some decent production out of him.skillz said:So basically Zimmermann can't be counted on as a reliable starter for the rest of the season. So that leaves them with JV, Fulmer, Boyd and Pelfrey/Sanchez/Norris.
Fulmer and Boyd have already bailed out the team big time maybe Norris can too down the stretch. I just don't have much faith he can stay healthy either.
I am more inclined to think he has nagging injuries that aren't going to go away in the next two months and that those nagging injuries have been around for a while. That is why he has been awful since May 1. I hope he can bounce back but it sounds like they may have rushed him back to start too quickly when they should have been more cautious.A little premature to be counting out JZ, but he has been going downhill from his awesome start. Only Fulmer but because he is so efficient (BP article today), the innings don't mean as much as they normally would. Looks like he will be allowed to go 180 regular season innings, which means probably only two skips in the rotation or getting 7 days rest sometimes. Norris and Boyd both good.Bobcat10 said:The young arms are entering uncharted waters as far as innings go.
Yeah I think he'll be fine. Had an issue with his lat yesterday too, but obviously he was rusty. Yeah the same guy who has said on multiple occasions that JV was "washed up." Even a broken clock is right twice a day, and Gildo is definitely broke in more ways than one.Don't tell GildoToday's outing matched the shortest of Tigers pitcher Jordan Zimmermann's entire career, according to ESPN Stats and Information. I'm sure they'll be good, but I thought when I glanced at their IP none of them seemed to have pitched much more than where they are at now. Norris had 150 last year and 130 the year prior, he's at 92 right now. I don't think he could get to 150 if he was put back in the rotation tomorrow and started on 4 days rest the remainder of the year.I'm sure they'll be good, but I thought when I glanced at their IP none of them seemed to have pitched much more than where they are at now. No need to rush Jimenez because Lowe blows. This patient approach by the front office is refreshing. I have doubts about making it to October, but even if that falls short I really like how this squad is setting up for next year. All this debate about starting rotation and I just want to know why Mark Lowe is still on the team. Let's bring up Jimenez and make a run.
Sure patience BUT while I think the young core could be awesome, the stars of this team will fall off at some point. Let's do this while Miggy, JV, Kinsler and VMart are producing at this level. They didn't go out and get Upton/JZ to lose and they are one of the hottest teams in baseball. There is no need to have a RP with a 8+ ERA, even if you are correct about that not having a correlation with Jimenez. No need to rush Jimenez because Lowe blows.
