Did Romo throw his own lineman under the bus? (1 Viewer)

Seemed like a frustration comment but Mr. Wunderkind phenom better learn where his bread is buttered. The line protects him and for all the glory he gets, they get little. Seems like a foolish thing for a young up and comer to say considering some of the mistakes he's had the past few weeks.

I don't know where the quote came from, but I'd like to see the context.

I see where you're coming from, but ( at the risk of a SP beat down ) this could have been a "ploy to motivate".

MBIII ran for 8 yds on that 4th and 1 play. That O lineman didn't just hold, hell he tackled the guy. Romo is not throwing anyone under the bus, he's just pointing out the obvious.

Was that they play where Adams just went for Warren's legs and wrapped him up? Best tackle all game. He made another nice tackle on Harrison on the MBIII endzone scamper (amazing play regardless of one of the most blatant missed holds ever).

But wasn't the Seau pick the real dagger?
The Cowboys played as good as they could, the O couldn't hold the ball and NE wore out the D. Cowboys are lucky because the score could have been worse. To aswer the question........no. No one locally really thought or expected a win, just a good game. Game in which we could see how the team can hold up to one of the best in the league and we got our answer yesterday.

I was laughing too hard to actually see who it was. Hell, he should be playing on the defense.

I don't think he threw anyone under the bus but somethings are better off said off camera. There's no doubt the team needs to address the penalties that they accumulate during the course of the game. Many of the are silly and costly.

I am sure "real" local Cowboy fans put this game in perspective. They would much rather lose to NE rather than to Washington, Philly or the Giants. This game was just not that important. It was more a gauge to see where they have to get to.But this is the Cowboy's curse for being "America's Team". Real Cowboy fans just like the rest of us have to listen to a bunch of "America's Team Fans" that know little or nothing about football rant and rave about the Cowboys. I can honestly say that some of the most knowledgeable fans I know are Cowboy fans but most of the dumbest fans I know claim to be Cowboy fans.

That holding call came at the beginning of the 4th quarter with Dallas down by 7 and Barber's 4th down conversion would have been the third 1st down on that drive. I think Romo felt like they were driving towards a TD there and instead they had to punt and 4 plays later Stallworth scored the 69-yard TD.

I don't really see it as Romo throwing his line under the bus as much as saying that the play in question was a serious turning point in momentum and he would've liked to see what the team could have done with 1st down inside NE territory down by 7 in the 4th quarter.

Was this the quote?

"Who knows what happens if we get that, score and tie the game late in the fourth quarter? It's funny how in a game one play or two plays can shape momentum quickly and turn everything around."

Yes, I don't think he was accusing the holder but wondering how the game might have gone had that play been successful. I got the impression that he was talking about how competitive they were. TO was more diplomatic in saying, more generally, that they killed themselves with penalties.

Interesting - maybe we shouldn't be overlooking this guy too much. Will the retirement of Strong, however, necessitate him serving in the FB role?
No, I agree i think it would have been interesting

that's not the quote in question, i don't think... he said something about how that play "killed" them or something to that effect.I remember thinking how ridiculous of a comment that was considering the fact that they were only down by 7 and it was the very beginning of the 4th quarter. He said something like, that was the play that really lost it for us.... or something to that effect. Not quite throwing anyone under the bus... but it shows a lack of faith in his defense/teammates. That whole like T.O. had about confidence in the locker-room could be a smokescreen. Also, did it look like Romo and Phillips had been crying to anyone else? I know it's tough to smile after a loss like that but it looked like there might have been some tear-age.

Yeah, TO was real diplomatic when he said he didn't think the Pats were the best team. :goodposting:

110% agree with the first part. A loss to Washington, Philly or the Giants hurts like hell.I'm not sure if the second part is really needed. From what I've seen since I've been here on these boards including the years I trolled. Other fans have the tendency to call out Cowboy fans just like you just did. Take note you are the first and only one to call someone out. Regardless if anyone wants to believe it or not but there's a legitimate reason why they've been call "America's Team." But only a few people make a big deal out of nothing and it's really not worth the discussion.

How about if a lineman were to come out and say "I'd have liked to have seen what we could do without that wannabe-Favre shuttle pass that was intercepted"?

I agree with this point. It is never good to say a quote against a single player to the media. I am sure everyone on the Cowboys would have loved to see what would have happened without the holding call.....or the wannabe-Favre shuttle pass. That does not mean you come out and say it.

What interview did I see then, because that's what I've heard him say every time they show that clip. Please enlighten me. Is this another one of those TO semantic denials.

no... i think what he said right before that was more damning. He was basically inferring that because they didn't get that first down they lost. (despite only being down 7... ok, 14 with the Stallworth TD... with a quarter of ball left to play) I wish i could recall the exact phrase he used... it made me shake my head in disgust.

It's a fair enough take. MB3 likely gets the 1st down just by falling forward even if that defender wasn't tackled. If Dallas marches down the field not only do they maybe tie the game but the defense doesn't continue to get worn down. Maybe Ware does not get hurt. That one play really did change the complexion of the game. At the time of the Romo interception we were already down to needing an onsides kick.

Come on they did not play as good as they could, for one how many penalties, not sure but atleast 12. How many offsides on 3rd down that gave the Pats a first. I could go on but what is the point. Dallas played far from as good as they could. My main question is why the hell can't the Cowboys do anything in the first quarter this season. That is the key to them being able to make it to the Super bowl. I am at a loss about that.
