DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket (1 Viewer)

This will be the first time in 6 years I won't have the ticket.I bought a HD tv but my equipment was so old I would have had to spend close to $700 just to get DTV in HD.
Direct TV is selling their HDTV DVR for $200. I bought one before the start of last season when they were $300 and they installed a new HDTV satellite for free so the total cost was $300 and my guess is the total cost now is $200.
That is the cost for new customers, not current ones.

I looks like you can get the SuperFan free for now. I copied the following from DTV website:

Get SUPERFAN for FREE when you order NFL SUNDAY TICKET with your DIRECTV base package. Offer ends June 18.

That's most likely for NEW subscribers.

Could be, but a few weeks ago I called them regarding another matter and once that was cleared up, mentioned the free Superfan offer and they hooked me up with it gratis. Certainly worth a try for those ST vets (I've had it for the past 7 seasons), no doubt. :kicksrock:

If the current offer for new subscribers is Superfan for free when you sign up then that's way behind what they had last year, which I believe was 4 free months of their top programming package when signing up for D* along with ST.

Unless the free Superfan is just for signing up for ST, not for D*.

Here is the link:DTV

It does say "New Customers Only" Sorry.

It seems to me that if they are willing to give it to new customers, they would at least negotiate with the loyal returning ones. Anyone try it yet?

Juts called. They said emails will be going out to current customers for the Superfan special offers. I asked if I could get Superfan at no charge like a new customer will and the hooked me up with no charge Superfan :goodposting: . Over my 12 years with DTV I have learned you have to ask for customer retention and keep calling back till someone gives you a deal. They are loyal to long term customers.

What I don't understand:

Why doesnt the NFL schedule more games at 4 pm? On a weekend with 16 games, 2 will be on SNF and MNF, maybe 3 or 4 will be at 4 pm, and the rest (around 10) will all be at one.

Why not divide it evenly between 1 and 4?

I just called and they said since I'm setup for auto-renew, i will get the SuperFan package for free. Of course, they are charging $229 this year for ST, and that blows.

I also asked about all these new HD channels that are supposedly coming soon (heard that last year too) and she said by year's end, there will be 100 channels in HD. Here is a list from their website-

DIRECTV, the nation's leading satellite television service provider, continues to set the stage for its unprecedented expansion of HD services. With agreements in place to launch four Discovery HD channels, five HD channels from Starz, CNBC and Chiller in HD, along with recently completed deals with The History Channel and A&E, DIRECTV is on schedule to roll out up to 100 national HD channels by year-end to satisfy the appetite of its HD customers, who have doubled over the last year.

Under the agreement with Discovery Communications, DIRECTV will launch four simulcasts - Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet and The Science Channel - and two other channels to be named and launched by Discovery at a later date. The HD feeds of the four existing networks will launch in September.

DIRECTV also has an agreement in place with Starz to launch three new HD movie channels: Starz Edge, Starz Comedy and Starz Kids & Family, as well as Starz's East and West coast HD feeds. The new Starz HD channels, featuring first-run hit movies, and the Starz East and West HD channels, will also launch in September.

The History Channel and DIRECTV recently announced that DIRECTV will be the first to launch The History Channel HD, a new 24-hour HD network, and A&E HD in September.

For those that are saying, hey, all that crap isn't football related, i'm just trying to justify paying that much for ST. :excited:

I canceled this year... I know I'll miss it but it's just gotten too expensive in my opinion. I'll watch the locally covered games and follow the rest on nfl.com.

I'm a new DirecTV customer as of about two months. I tried emailing customer service. Asked if I could get Superfan free if I ordered Sunday ticket.

I rec'd a long-winded "no."

I'd pay $229 ($13.47 a week) just to catch the Saints each week up here in Wisconsin. The other games are just a bonus.
That's the bottom line for me. As long as I live out of market for Steelers games, I'll pay. I'm a Steelers fan first, fantasy football player second. :lmao:

5 night games. 1 late Sunday afternoon game. At least 4 marquee 1pm games. I'm guessing I'll get to see at least 10 Steeler games with or without ST. Good enough for me.

Yeah, that's funny. So 5 of those games you can't even see with ST, plus a bye week. There's $81 of your $229 down the drain. Then the chance to possibly see 5 more games without paying anything, that brings the cost up to $38/game.

I complain(Scream at them and tell them that I'm going to cancel) all the time to Direct TV and they will give you free stuff. I have had HBO, Stars, Cinamax for the last 9 months for free. I have 25 pay movie passes for free too. Last year I called on a Sunday when my system went down and they credited my account $99. My Tivo broke and they wanted me to pay $75 which I refused and they then agreed to send it to my for free as long as they got my old reciever in return. The one they sent me was refurbished but has worked great. I dont have HD but said if I wanted to they would do it at a new customers rate. I am a "A" customer as they call it and have been with them for many many years and get all the customer surveys from J.D. Powers so I guess they want to keep me happy. When I first got DTV I sent a very nice letter to DTV about how pleased I was with the customer service rep to the installer and ever since that they always seem to jump when I call.

I would say ##### more if you dont want to spend all that money on Direct TV. Since DTV is the only game in town for getting all the games I put up with the costs.

What are you guys using for customer retention? The # I had no longer works. Don't want a regular CSR drone.

The one I got at 800-531-5000 was an imbecile.

I cancelled last night. They didn't say a thing to me other than "Ok you are all set, we cancelled Sunday ticket for you." No questions about why I was cancelling, etc. I just called the general number. I did not ask for CR.

I had Sunday ticket the last two years but I just didn't see myself watching it a lot this year to justify the increased cost. So, even if they made me an offer for Superfan I would have declined.

FWIW, I have always paid my bill on time in the four years I have had Directv and have been an HBO subscriber during the times the Sopranos were on. I thought maybe that would put me in their "good customer" column and they would try to get me to keep Sunday ticket by offering some sort of deal. Never happened though.

I think DTV hires the stupidest people they can find for their "customer service" positions. :kicksrock:

I called regular customer service because I received an email stating I was on auto renew for Sunday ticket at the 229.00 per year cost but SF was an extra 99. I had written earlier that I had talked to normal customer service on June 6th and was assured of free superfan. So, I called to find out what the deal was. The woman apologized for me being misinformed on the 6th but SF is 99.00. She said if I got it free last year it must have been a promotion. I got a little firm with her and said no and that I was a good customer (premium package and HD package etc) she said yes but no free SF) I said this was ridiculous and please connect me with Customer Retention. She put me on hold for a minute or two. Got back on and asked if I was aware that I had a 2 year contract with them and if I left I would pay a fine. I said yes I did and send me to customer retention. Told her 229 was bad enough but over 300 was even worse and I wasn't going to pay it. She sent me to customer retention. I repeated the story to that women. She said no problem - I was eligable for SF for free and she would figure out a way to get it for me. I asked if I would have to go thru this every year and she yes as SF was 99.00 Then she told me that I was on auto-renew for both ST and SF for 0 dollars on SF and perhaps next year it would automatically renew at 0. I told her thank you very much and that was that. So it pays to talk to Customer Retention 1-800-824-9081 is their direct number.

(So the 1st cust rep I talked to on June 6th was right-the one I talked to today wouldn't budge off I am not authorized to give that to you for free - the one from customer retention was pleasant and nice and accomodated my request - I whined but not outrageously)

why didnt you at least whine about the price and ask for a deal? Every customer they have is in the good column, its costs them alot to set up new customers so they try hardest to keep the ones they have, if you would have said, "I am canceling my whole service because I loved the ticket but you guys are charging way to much for it so I don't need you guys anymore", they would have done something to keep you, guaranteed, even if it was 10 bucks off you bill for 6 months or something like that...I have done this more than once, if it doesn't work with the first guy I just call back the next day and get a nicer/dumber person...

I agree with everyone that says DirecTV's Customer Retention number used to provide a rich cavalcade of goodies every time you called to complain.

I also agree with everyone that is now saying they're not getting anything from DirecTV. I think the era of getting free stuff for complaining has come to an end.

I do hope when the ST contact(I think 2011) is up with DTV, the NFL lets another cable company or satellite company offer the ST to their customers. DTV does need some competition for the ST.

Won't likely happen. It'd be like hoping that when the BCS contract is up, they start a playoff system in college ball. It's going to take Congressional intervention to get anything started with the NFL.

Does anyone get(or pay for) thier DTV through a 3rd party vendor like Qwest? I just moved my DTV over for bundle savings and am wondering if I would deal DTV or Qwest to try and get free SF.

I know that probably would have worked but I honestly just didn't want to have ST anymore. Too many other things to do in my life now that I have kids so I don't think I won't be sitting on my behind watching games non-stop every Sunday as I used to do. As I said, even if they gave me free Superfan as they have to others I would have said no thanks.

The Sunday Ticket costs less than what it would cost you to go to just 1 football game...and instead you end up getting about 160+ games which works out to about $1.50 per game...not too bad really.
Dude,Nobody watches 160 games.
:ptts:I watch 8 or 9 games at once at 1PM Sundays. There's a special channel on DirecTV that lets you watch 8 games at once, and I use that on my big screen with a split screen - the other image is a big size game. Add in 4PM, SNF and MNF - I'd pretty much guarantee you I see 160+ games in entirety a year.
Typical weekend here as well, but with 4 HD flat panels on separate games, with 1 I'm flipping through constantly to see every snap. I miss very few live snaps per year, and between TiVo and NFL Replay on the NFL N I pick up the rest.No Sunday Ticket, no dice. :banned:

I just cannot complain

There is no other format for a 73" Mitsubishi than HiDef

I won't cancel...ever

As of now, my wife and kids buy me the Sunday Ticket as a Father's Day gift.

If we have to, it will eventually include by birthday, Xmas, Easter...whatever.

DTV Direct Ticket is a way of life!

Not sure how accurate this is but I found the following post when searching for information about the NFL Network & Verizon FIOS

Link

Code:
I know this doesn't help things now but I've been hearing from a couple people at the NFL that in 2010 none other than the NFL Network will be offering NFL Sunday Ticket. It will still be a PPV season package but I hear it will finally be made available to any company that wants it. NFL Network will at that point be able to replay the games however they want as they own the rights for the broadcasts themselves. Many things are involved in this from what I hear but the main issue is that all the sudden the NFL feels that the time will be right in 2010 for full open access to NFL Sunday Ticket. Also they want to start tinkering with different types of packages such as a single team package, NFC or AFC only package along with the full season package. One of the NFL's biggest complaints are about how many games are on at 1pm for example. So what the plan is for the future in 2010 is to have more overall games on free or cable channels for all to watch. This is the main jive I've been told thus far.Sunday and Monday Night will still be around. The next CBS and Fox contracts (assuming they even go to CBS and Fox) will have less overall games as part of the contract. NFL Network will get a few games a week. So the plan is to stop having one network have the double header every other week. So for example CBS, Fox and NFL Network will all have one game at both 1pm and 4pm. CBS and Fox will be mostly regional as today while NFL Network will be a national game available to all.So less games overall will be on NFL Sunday Ticket and as such they think a lower price would be better for the mass market. Also they want to see how the Thursday and Saturday test goes because those two Sunday NFL Network games I talked about above could be placed on those days instead but will be every week of the season instead of just the last part of the season. What the overall plan is for the future is to get NFL Network more involved along with a few other key things below.1. Use NFL Network to provide more overall national games to customers without needing a PPV package. So I hear the NFL Network could be offering between Thursday and Saturday nights 34 total NFL games all live and free to any customer who has NFL Network.2. With less overall games on Sunday they can schedule equal games at both 1pm and 4pm EST and this will add more value for NFL Sunday Ticket customers who have been very upset that they cannot keep up with 8 games at a time with hardly anything at 4pm. Also having less overall games will allow a lower price for NFL Sunday Ticket customers once it becames available on all companies. In simple terms the NFL wants more games on free or cable TV in a national manner and if they do add more games it also gives them the chance to deal with their biggest complaint about NFL Sunday Ticket. Also having less overall games on Sundays will also reduce the so called issue of broadcasters losing advertising because of NFL Sunday Ticket customers. With less overall Sunday afternoon games on it means less overall advertising money lost. This is without a doubt a very complex issue but I have it from a few very high sources that major changes to the way the NFL will be doing contracts and games will be coming at the end of both the NFL Sunday Ticket contracts and the end of both the CBS and Fox contracts. I'm also told that we might see a good chance that only one free OTA network will have games in the next contract. With so many customers having basic cable or better they feel it might be worthwhile to say have CBS and ESPN for Sunday afternoon games. So in the future we could have the following below for example.CBS free OTA doing many AFC games like today.ESPN cable doing many NFC games like Fox does today.NFL Network showing live national games each week on Thursday and Saturday Night.Sunday and Monday night most likely would stay the same with one being a cable network and the other a free OTA network.I know I went very long but I felt this was important to say what I've been told. The three biggest requests by NFL fans from what I'm told are below.1. Biggest request is more national games on a non PPV package so a free OTA network or a cable channel like ESPN would be fine.2. Second biggest request is to make NFL Sunday Ticket available to all companies.3. Third biggest request by NFL Fans happens to be mainly from NFL Sunday Ticket fans who complain that lately way too many games are on at 1pm thus making the value of a very expensive package much lower. Also I'm told that bars would also like fewer games on at 1pm as many bars have enough TVs to show 5 games but anything more gets much harder because of seating arrangements. Bars also would love having more national games on different days as that would drive more business. Simply this is a very big deal with many big players in support of this such as many bars.

The best things to come from this could be:

More national games, therefore a lower price on Sunday Ticket.

The ability to customize your Sunday Ticket package. $125 for one team, $175 for one conference, $250 for the entire league. I love the ability to watch every game and track my fantasy players, but I truly only have Sunday Ticket to watch my favorite team. If I moved back to that market, I would drop Sunday Ticket.

The Sunday Ticket costs less than what it would cost you to go to just 1 football game...and instead you end up getting about 160+ games which works out to about $1.50 per game...not too bad really.

You might have that many games on but I find it hard to believe you watch all of them. Then again we might have different views on watching games. I prefer actually taking in what is going on in detail versus seeing vague movement.

I just called and complained and got the Superfan package this year for free. Directv was originally going to give me 3 months of HBO or Showtime for free. I had explained that Icould have a better deal with phone, internet, and cable thru a local company but that I stuck with them because they had the best NFL programming.

If you move out of your market, you can also order those channels. In addition to the local SFO area channels, we also get LA and NY local stations. I think we pay $5/month for each.
Are you saying you can order local channels from any area?
Yes, i believe so...major markets at least. I have LA, SFO and NY. It's a great thing being on the west coast and getting east coast networks. Can watch the late late show at 10pm here...in addition to the sports.
Yes you can, both the local news stations (Fox, nbc, abc etc) as well as regional sports networks (yankees network, Fox sports west, east, Empire network in western buffalo) and more..
I found this on the DirecTv site...Under federal law, we can provide local channels only within a local television market. For example, we can provide San Francisco stations only in San Francisco and the surrounding areas. Federal law requires us to respect the local TV markets boundaries, which are established by Nielsen Media Research. Distant broadcast network feeds from New York and Los Angeles are available only to customers who cannot receive an over-the-air signal from a local TV station and to customers who get waivers from their local TV stations.

I am definitely in an area where I can receive the local signal so I don't think it could work for me.
For some reason, people in LA can order WNBC in NY for $6/mohttp://www.laist.com/2007/06/14/la_directv_cust.php

Anyone? Can't believe I am about to drop $350 on Sunday ticket...... I love the idea of single team packages, too bad they have us by the balls right now.

Can get MLB and NHL together for about the same price as Sunday Ticket and I can watch games every night of the week instead of just Sunday afternoons. Canceled ST two years and have not looked back.

Your telling me that the NHL still exists? Who would have thunk

isnt the MLB package only on DTV nowif so, the price will go up and up just like the ST

I'm not thrilled about paying their price this year,as a Giant fan living in Florida and as a fantasy player it's tough to let it go. When I moved down here I got on the season ticket list for The Bucs, well,my number came up today, the cheapest season ticket i can get,top level in the corner,is $1124,that's if I want to go alone to the games,$over $2,200 for 2 tickets! Suddenly The Ticket and Superfan don't seem so bad. In the recliner, remote in hand, free food and beverages just steps away. Don't get me wrong,I'm still #####ing up a storm at DTV,but suddenly the storm has subsided a bit. :)
