DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket (1 Viewer)

I just got off the phone with them.I had billing problems with the genius' there...seems they had no record of me calling to cancel certain services the past two months....so they wouldn't back credit it. I told them I'd send them my phone records to prove it, fn idiots. Also asked for a break on the Ticket. $229 w/o SF was the best they could do. Told her about the $100 autorenewal I'd heard about and I wantd SF for free, and she said thats the best she could do.I really hate DTV.Very serious about cancelling my entire plan.Edit--called back.Got a wonderful lady. Took care of my back credit, and also gave me Superfan for FREE. So its just $45.80 x 5, $229 total. I'm happy again.Still hate the game you have to play to get deals, though.
:hot: I've gone through this 3 years in a row, first person = jerk, 2nd person = the hook up. The game is lame but when it's done I always feel great.

Got $10 per month for 12 months, with a one year additional base service commitment.

Tried several times to swing the Superfan as well... for free and for $49 (special price a few years ago) to no avail.

Seemed like a fair deal and straightforward with no haggling required. I am satisfied.

I got ST five years ago to watch my out-of-market team, and now appreciate the benefits of watching the games I care about from a fantasy perspective too. I can easily play with my kids and catch the games and avoid the smoke at the sportsbar.

yes...nfl...I wasnt sure if they offered an nfl package... Guess I could check out thier web page
Uhhh, no they don't. They never have. Sunday Ticket has been exclusive to DirecTV for a decade and continues to be so. You can only get it with DirecTV. :lmao:

I own a condo that doesn't allow the dish, but was a customer in the past. Just my 2 cents...
They can't stop you from having a dish, it's against the law. If you have anything like a patio or balcony that is "exclusive use" to you (i.e. not shared) then you can put up a dish, period. Nothing they can do to stop you. I know it's been posted in this thread already but research the FCC OTARD: http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/otard.html

I also own a condo and what is said above is right. The Association owns the outside of the condo. Everything in the condo is your's except that. I love it because when hail dents my siding, come fix it. If my roof needs replaced, yep come fix it. The bad part is that you have to kiss but to an association to get permission to get the dish. I like the Association because I don't have neighbors who put crap on porch or keep Xmas lights up all year, my value of my condo keeps going up, but special permission needs to be had to put the dish up. It is an exterior addition.

I originally received the Superfan for free when I called last month but after reading this thread I decided to call back today and I am glad I did. I still am receiving the superfan for free, in addition I am receiving a $5 a month credit on my bill for the next 12 months and $20 credit off of the NFL Ticket for the next 4 months. The girl was so nice she even threw in the remaining NASCAR package for free. So I'm getting the NFL Ticket and Super Fan for $89!

I called DTV today to try and get a discount on the Ticket+Superfan using the "My wife is sick of spending so much on the NFL Package and wants me to cancel. Can you help me convince her to keep it by giving me a discount?" method. The first person I reached was so nice and laughed with me about my predicament. She said she would look to see what she could do for me. After a moment, she came back and offered $5 off per month for 6 months (=$30). I said I would have to check with my wife if that was sufficient and would call back.

An hour later, I called back, and told the same story to a less friendly tech who didn't know anything about the NFL package and it's features. She transferred me to a more knowledgable and friendly woman. I told her my "wife is angry" story and then said I added the "can you first check to see if the SFP is comped again for this season?" trick. (I have not had it comped before but rather had it at the discounted price of $49 for the past couple years.)

She came back and said I will be comped the SFP and she will discount my Ticket subscription by $15 per month over 4 months (=$49+ $15x4 = Total savings by calling back a second time of $109)

As a bonus, she noticed I had not yet been upgraded to the LNB5 dish which will allow me to recieve the 150+ HD channels they are launching in September, and she said she would have them install free of charge a 3rd reciever in my bedroom that I had sitting in a closet for the last couple years. They normally charge extra for installation.

I am pretty happy with the overall results.

Cancelled NFL Ticket last week. They tried giving me the $10 off per month for 12 months if I kept it. That would have made it $109, but how would they credit me the $10 off for 6 months in the Winter when my service goes out for another 4 weeks. They won't stack the credits. F###'em.

I hate monopolies.

That massive wave of supposed lawsuits over that hardware was a different animal, I think. Did you pay? I know several people who were threatened sued. Some got scared and paid immediately. Some threw the letter away. The people who threw the letter away never heard anything again.

$10/month for 12 months.

FREE Superfan Valued at $99

TOTAL VALUE of Sunday ticket and Superfan = $348

TOTAL OUT OF POCKET COST = $129

Earlier this year

6 months free showtime

$10 off HBO for 6 months

Free HD ($10/month value) for 6 months

Honestly, I call all the time and bug them for deals. You just have to work them and hopefully get someone willing to work with you at customer retention.

Use the ole' "Dish network is offering a sweet deal to switch right now" argument

Works everytime!

That was too easy. After asking to be put to the cancellation dept.. Lady answers, asks for my tel # and address and asks why I'm cancelling.. (she acts like she's canceling it at the moment.)

I told them Dish wanted too offer me a package half as expensive with more HD programming and the only thing keeping me with DTV was the Sunday Ticket. I said that staying with them for their HD programming, it was quickly becoming a waste and she responded that they will have 150 new HD channels by the end of '07. I then pointed out that they've been telling me that since '05.

She asks what she can do to get me to consider staying. I said that there is nothing since I don't even think I want the Sunday Ticket anymore since it's too expensive and just to PLEASE cancel my account. She then comes back with..

- Free Superfan ($90)

- $17.50 off per month for 6 months ($105)

...then she says "Let me see what else I can do for you." and comes back with..

- Free HD Package for 6 months. ($60)

The lady then says that I'm one of their most valued customers since I've been with them for over 8 years and asks if I have any more Q's. I say no and goodbye.

Here's the kicker though.. a few days ago I just had the MLB Extra Innings fully credited back for the 2nd year in a row. ($200) (the last 2 years I've asked them to discontinue the auto-renewal ...make sure you tell them to make a note of it on the account!) and they always say they they did, but it always comes back next season.. 1 month left in the season... reference that little note you made the year before.

3 Day Grand Total: $455

I don't subscribe and won't because of the cost. If there were competition and this was what the free market would bear, I would probably pay. But this is an anti-trust violation. No one else is allowed to offer this programming. It is a monopoly and I wish Congress would do something about it.

Isn't it fun to B.S. them! I have used that Dish Network line before not even knowing what Dish was offering....I just made it up as I went along and my wife sat on the couch just shaking her head. They totally bought it.GOOD JOB! CONGRATS and ENJOY!!!

:lmao:  :lmao: Toward the end of my phone call I even asked if they can move the NFL season up a few weeks. ...No dice.

I just called and received 6 months at $10 off, free HBO for 6 months, SFP for $49, and free MPEG4-DVR/HD receiver/5 LNB dish (including installation).

:popcorn:FYI, I decided to call for the fun of it... this is not my sort of thing at all either. Anyway, I told the guy that my wife was pressuring me to switch to DISH and wanted to see if there were any discounts that I qualified for. BINGO$10 off next 12 monthsRemoved $5 charge for 2 of my receivers ($10 month)HD package free next 12 months (10.99 month)NFL Ticket SuperFan FREE ($100 value)Unreal that I saved that much with a 5 minute call... and like I said I am usually a no haggle type. Sweetness.

I agree 100% with Sharkbait. It is a monopoly. That is why we now have a choice for gas and eletric providers. A few years ago microsoft went through this in order to break up thier monopoly.

You can watch NFL games on CBS, FOX, ESPN, and the NFL Network. It's not a monopoly.

I called to cancel Superfan in hopes they would make me a deal and they just cancelled it. I'll call back in a few days and see if I can work a deal. They were more than happy to just stop the service.

OK Gang, I just ordered:

Got Sunday Ticket, HD Access, Superfan, HD DVR, HD, 2 standard receivers (4 total receivers) for 74.96 per month plus tax for first four months with free premium service for first 4 months for all movie channels. Initial startup cost is $300 to cover the cost of the HD DVR. 24 month contract. After first four months you can remove premium service and go to regular service.

By my accounts, they are giving away $400 in service if you buy Sunday ticket. The lady didn't charge for HD Access and gave $10 off for 15 months. Plus I used a buddies referral and got $50 off.

They do throw in a free portable DVD player if you ask (great Christmas present for 8 yr old).

I haven't seen anyone else mention this, but if you want a free additional $50 off your order use the following referral account when calling:

38898247

Tell them it was your good buddy Jay Morgan that referred you.

I tried this for a while. It's a crappy offer for the person signing up.....they give more in other deals for new subscribers.

I'm on hold with "Dave", a customer service "specialist "at DTV, as I write this. We have the Premium package already with DTV ($99/mo.) so when I told Dave that my wife wanted me to switch to Dish and I was calling to see if I qualified for any discounts on NFL ST so I could tell my wife to "jump in a lake" (he laughed), Dave threw in both Sunday Ticket and SuperFan for FREE!! I'll continue to pay the $99/mo. for the premium package (HBO, SHOW, etc.) but get ST and SF for free this year! He even gave me this current month's premium package for free ($99 savings).

I told him I'll be the hero at my house and might even get "some" from the little lady tonight. He laughed, I laughed, and I walked away with free ST and SF....it was a beautiful thing!

I don't think it is. I used my FFL buddy and got the additional $50 off my best deal. Maybe you can get a better deal than I did, but I called 3 people to get one that would work for me, not against me. Just be real nice and patient. My monthly bill will be (first 4 months):

Premium 250 Channels............0.00 (Inc HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc)

Sunday Ticket........................69.99 (Inc Superfan)

Lease Fee..............................14.97 (3 boxes)

HD Access............................. Free

Discount...............................(10.00) (15 months)

Taxes..................................~10.00

========================

.............................................74.96 + perks (Free portable DVD player and $50 off for me giving friend as referral)

*** This is $179 worth of programming so I look at it as $400 savings ***

After first 4 months it will go to:

Premium 250 Channels 99.99 (Inc HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc)

Sunday Ticket paid

Lease Fee 14.97 (3 boxes)

HD Access Free

Discount (10.00) (15 months)

Taxes ~10.00

========================

114.96

At that time I can always scale back to a more reasonable package without altering contract time, something like:

HD Choice 64.98 (everything but the premium movie channels)

Sunday Ticket paid

Lease Fee 14.97 (3 xtra boxes)

HD Access Free

Discount (10.00) (15 months)

Taxes ~10.00

========================

78.95

Not trying to brag on deal, just provide as much info as possible to help future new subscribers. I have no idea on quality, I've never subscribed. Feel free to use a friend as a referral, or if you don't know one, use my account number. If you can get a better deal go for it. Hopefully my info will benefit some other FBG's out there.

Update #1 - did all the NBA, receiver, HBO stuff. Then she was going to give me Super Fan for free when I had my wife chime in from the background with... how is that saving us money? (Just had the baby and all...) The rep took all my info about my issues and referred me to a Customer Retention specialist. I told them I would call back. I'm calling back in a bit to talk with the CR to see what I can get. Time to drop the "Dish is looking pretty good right now, deal"
Update #2 - Bingo. Called back, talked with Doug the CR rep. Told him the Super Fan was nice and all, but we don't really "need it." Same for the NFL package - I use it only for Fantasy Football and we needed to save money because of the new baby. Told him that Dish had the same deal, minus the NFL package for almost $20 less per month, including no DVR charge for 18 months (which is true, I looked it up.) That's when Doug went into overdrive and started throwing out deals:- free DVR Service for a year: $72

- Some $10 discount we were eligible for a year: $120

- Free HBO for a year (we had just disconnected): $156

- Free NFL Super Fan for the year: $99

- Discount on NFL package this year: $100

- Total haul for the call: $547

It all comes down to this: They will do what they can to keep someone and you have to take advantage of that. They are counting on people taking these deals and then most of them not calling back when the deals are over and then paying the higher price. In fact, I probably wouldn't have changed a thing other than kill the receiver and the NBA package if I hadn't read this thread (* thanks everyone that posted above - great info! *)

What really worked for me was the "break" between the call with the main rep and the CR rep. It gave me time to "research my options with Dish." When you call back to talk with the CR rep, say "canceling service" on the automated menu and it will take you directly to CR folks instead of waiting. That's when the fun starts.

The Price Sux, but I love my Direct Ticket.

REturning customers get hosed. They've got a deal where a new customer gets the package and they get 4 months of the Premium Package for Free.

I called and complained - but couldn't get anywhere.

That my friends is called...a MONOPOLY.

When does their deal run out? That'll get interesting...

No, it isn't. Offering better deals to new subscribers over retuning ones is pretty much SOP for ISPs, mobile phone service, cable/ satellite, credit card balance transfers, tons of other exapmples -- pretty much any service that is a recurring monthly fee.

I have not read all 7 pages of this but can anyone tell me if DTV is worth getting in one room for the NFL package and how much would it cost

I decided to cancel this year after having it since '01. I really only switch back and forth between one or two games and fall asleep half of the time during the early games. Then when I attend 2 or three games a year it's just a total waste. I will miss the interactive side bars and box scores but that's not any different that having a laptop around. When I canceled I was offered an HD reciever but I won't get HD until it is the norm for all. I'm just going to do it week to week in case I have people over or something.

I've been a long time customer of Directv, and a Sunday Ticket subscriber for 5 years. I also have the Total Premiere package, which runs $100 per/mo. I played this card and got the following:$10 off per/mo for 1 year - $120 savings. $100 off the Sunday Ticket as well. Total savings of $220 :goodposting:Even if the Sunday Ticket was $300 I'd still pay it. For me going to a Sports Bar every week would certainly be more exspensive. Here is a conservative estimate on what it would cost me each Sunday6 Amstel Lights or Corona's at 3.75 a piece = $22.5Basic bar food, burger/fries or chicken sandwich $8.00Food/drink total = $30.50 20% tip = $6.10Grand total for 1 week $36.60$36.6 X 17 Weeks = $622.20Of course these numbers are subject to change. I may have a week where I drink 10 beers over the course of the day, and or buy a round for fellow Steeler fans. After 10 beers I would also incur the Taxi ride home expense, and the potential wrath from the wife.Being able to spend Sunday's at home with my wife and 2 year old Steeler fan, watch any game I want, in a smoke-free enviroment, with clean bathrooms is well worth the cost of Sunday TicketMy $0.02
Must be nice to live in a place that charges 3.75 for Amstel or Coronas.
Must be nice to be such a light weight that only drinks 6 beers on gameday.

just thought i'd throw this little nugget out there....i cancelled my auto-renewal a month ago b/c they weren't really coming strong with the discounts.

got a call last night offering me superfan for free and total ticket price dropped to 189. good enough and it was initiated on their end. wait them out if you have been a subscriber for years, you'll get a call too.

I currently do not have DirecTV. I'n considering it since it will only be 70 bucks for the 4 month season which included the premium package. My question is, can cancel direcTV after the season's done?

How can any of us tell you if it's worth it to you? You know what you are getting... Do you want the ability to watch all the games on Sunday, if so , this is the only way. Is it worth $300 for the season to you? Only you can answer that. Cost is about $49 a month plus the Ticket package @ $269 for season (which they will break up into 5 monthly payments)

They make you agree to a 2 year subscription, if you cancel your liable not for the entire cost of 2 years service, but for a fee of about $130.00 bucks if I remember correctly because I did that like an idiot 3 years ago.....and i'am back with the ticket again. It's my crack dude, I cant get enough of it!!

I have no desire to get NFL ticket. At one point I had it, but I have season tickets and go to about 6 games a year so it simply isn't worth over $20 a week for the weeks that I am home on Sunday.

But you have all inspired me to beat up Comcast a bit over their $5 charge for NFL network. Maybe I'll threaten to go to Dish or DirecTV and see what they can come up with. :goodposting:

I've only been a subscriber for 6 months so far. Do you think there's any chance I can beat them up enough to give me the free superfan and a discount on the Ticket? Or do you think they'll tell me to suck eggs since I'm still under my initial contract?

The squeeky wheel gets the oil..... :hophead:

I LOVE DIRECTV! BTW, I don't think they keep track of your previous calls or discounts. I called 3 months ago to cancel, and they offered me $15 off a month for 12 months and free Starz and Showtime for 3 months. I called a month ago to try to get the free SuperFan with DirecTV and they said they couldn't do that but would give me $10 off a month for 6 months. I called this morning and they said they would give me SuperFan for free. I think I probably shouldn't call anymore or they may cancel me. I think my next bill they will actually start paying me.

I am a long time DirecTV and Sunday Ticket subscriber. I called up one month ago, and just to keep my service for the next 12 months (which I probably wouldn't have canceled anyway), I received a $25.99 credit for first six months and a $15.99 credit for next six months. This resulted in direct savings of $251.88. I decided to call back tonight to see what discounts I could receive to keep Sunday Ticket (which I also probably wouldn't have canceled). I was very polite, it was a short conversation, stuff like I've had the package for a long time, it's getting a little too expensive, I have other things going on during the weekend, etc. I received a $45.80 credit off the early renewal price plus free Superfan (I did have to ask for that). My new total for Sunday ticket is now $183.20 including Superfan. Painless process. Bottom line, after 2 quick phone calls, my total savings for the next 12 months is $251.88 + $45.80 + $99.00 = $396.68. Also, if you don't have success on the first call, just politely hang up and call back later. Good luck and enjoy the season...

They tell you to "suck eggs" in a nice way.Which really blows. They don't find ways to reward us crazy crack addict DTV Ticket subscribers....

I said I would have to check with my wife if that was sufficient and would call back.An hour later, I called back, and told the same story to a less friendly tech who didn't know anything about the NFL package and it's features. She transferred me to a more knowledgable and friendly woman. I told her my "wife is angry" story and then said I added the "can you first check to see if the SFP is comped again for this season?" trick. (I have not had it comped before but rather had it at the discounted price of $49 for the past couple years.)She came back and said I will be comped the SFP and she will discount my Ticket subscription by $15 per month over 4 months (=$49+ $15x4 = Total savings by calling back a second time of $109) :whoosh: As a bonus, she noticed I had not yet been upgraded to the LNB5 dish which will allow me to recieve the 150+ HD channels they are launching in September, and she said she would have them install free of charge a 3rd reciever in my bedroom that I had sitting in a closet for the last couple years. They normally charge extra for installation.I am pretty happy with the overall results. :D
Part 2 - I called today to say I made an error by scheduling the dish upgrade and needed to reschedule. While I had Misty on the line, I asked if they could have the technician bring me a new HD reciever since the one I had has a loose HDMI cable port that wiggles loose on me all the time. She said they'd be happy to send me a brand new HD reciever H20 model, that would also give me the full interactivity of the Super Fan Pack that I have not been able to use with my faulty H10. It would be free except for a $29 shipping fee and a 2 year contract extension. That was my opening. I brought up that I would be very happy to accept the new reciever but was reluctant to agree to 2 more years with my wife hating the Sunday Ticket as is, and knowing it'll go up again each year. I asked if there were any additional incentives she could offer me to help coax my wife off the edge. She came back with an additional $10 off per month for next 6 months and 3 free months of all Showtime channels.Net result to date...- Sunday Ticket at the auto renewal rate of $229- Free Super Fan Pack ($99 value)- $25 per month off bill for next 4 months ($100)- $10 per month off bill for 5th and 6th month ($20)- Free upgrade to interactive HD reciever with $29 shipping cost- Free install of 3rd reciever in bedroom- Free upgrade to 5LMB dish- Free 3 months of all Showtime/The Movie Channel programming, including Showtime HD (value unknown)Net cost for renewal of Sunday Ticket and Superfan Pack = $109, and a new fully interactive HD reciever for $29 more. I asked Misty to put in a good word with her supervisor and she was very appreciative. I told him how satisfied I was with the service I recieved. I really did recieve excellent service and a great deal!
