DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket (1 Viewer)

I called on Friday and got:

ST for free with a 2 year contract extension. I still have to pay for the $99 Super Fan, but haven't ordered it yet. Should I call back and ask what they can do about getting this to me for free? Or what does everyone suggest?

Thanks!

For all those that are signing 2 year contracts. From what I've heard from a friend, once you have that 2 year contract, they no longer give you any breaks in your price or services. Just an FYI from what I've heard, I will not sign their two year contract, if they ask, I will always politely refuse.

I had to make a few calls but here is what I ended up getting.

$20 off Sunday Ticket for 4 months

Free Superfan, normally $99

Free HD for 6 months, normally $10 month

Free Showtime for 3 Months, normally $11 month

Free HBO for 3 months, normally $12 month

Total Savings $308

I also signed up for a 2 year contract last year when we upgraded our receiver to an HD/DVR and was still able to get some deals. I was happy enough to keep the Sunday Ticket.

Well I just tried and got nowhere. I've been a subscriber since March 2007. I basically told her I signed up just for the HD channels and the Ticket, I was unhappy to find out the HD games cost more, yadda-yadda. She told me about how it costs them more to get those games, so they pass the cost on to the customers, blah-blah. So I told her I was probably going to cancel before my two years are up, I'm very unhappy, etc. I told her I have friends who have received great deals including free Superfan. She told me I need to watch for discounts in the papers etc. after the season starts, but there are no specials right now. I told her that was no good and I'm very unhappy now and will probably cancel in the next few weeks and go with Verizon Fios. She basically said - duly noted, good bye.

Go to the directtv website and e-mail them. That goes to their customer retention center. That is what I do.

Just call into the main number. When the automated voice comes up, say "cancel" and it will take you directly to the customer retention folks. That's the key - they are pretty much the ones that cut the deals.

Ok so I called the first time and got $10 off for six months but I see that everyone else got a better deal. Should I call back and go directly to cancel like someone else suggested? Then when I get to customer service, I tell them I want to cancel because of the price? I guess I'm afraid they may call my bluff. Or should I say I am thinking about canceling because of the price and what can you do for me?

Suggestions please?

Just say that you are looking at going with either Dish Network or Verizon Fios, and wanted to know what you needed to do to cancel. They will respond with those providers don't have the NFL Sunday ticket. Then say that the Sunday ticket is to expensive and your wife is hounding you to cancel it.

The wife angle has worked wonders. My wife never said a peep about the service or costs, but as far as DTV knows she thinks they are way overpriced and wants me to give up the Ticket. That story was worth about $409 in discounts and freebies. Use the "wife" as your scapegoat. Don't have a wife? Make one up.

I've only been a subscriber for 6 months so far. Do you think there's any chance I can beat them up enough to give me the free superfan and a discount on the Ticket? Or do you think they'll tell me to suck eggs since I'm still under my initial contract?
I was a new subscriber last year for about 6 months - got superfan for 1/2 price. When I was cancelling premium package down to normal package - they offered 10 off a month for 6 months - 60 bucks to stay with the premium channel and when I called and complained nicely to the customer retention I got superfan for free this year. They say I'm on an autorenewal for sunday ticket w/SF at no cost. So like the others say - it doesn't hurt to try. I'd like to get Sunday ticket but its so darn expensive......yada yada - and see what they'll do.

Okay, so I've called a couple times and all I can get is either $10.00 off for 4 months or free Superfan (99.00). With the deals I have been seeing here I don't think they are giving me enough for the money I have spent over the years. I have been a DTV customer for almost eight years now and this will be my third year of Sunday Ticket. I told both people the exact deal that DishNetwork is offering and they still won't do anything else. They also said I will need a 5 LNB dish that they would provide so I can access these supposedly new HD channels.

I really don't want to drop the SUnday Ticket but I can't believe people are getting so much off per month and all they can offer me is the superfan which I don't care to have anyway.

Don't know what to do....? Any suggestions from the people that have gotten through to the anal retention department?

I think that's true for those receiving free ST this year. But they should be able to get discounts next year. I am in a contract now and I got $10 off for 6 months and free Superfan because I threatend to cancel ST (as opposed threatening to cancel my entire service). Those receiving the free ST this year should be able to get discounts on ST next season when they consider not renewing it.

I know that DirecTV has caused this sense of entitlement amongst us due to the various offers that they have given many of us, but I just want to remind everyone that they are not obligated to give any of us any discount. This isn't directed at this specific poster, but just want to try and bring everyone back down a little bit.The fact that they are willing to give us any discount is great, because I haven't seen any threads with people negotiating with their other cable providers...For those determined to get the best offer, the best advice is just to keep calling until you get someone that is willing to work with you. The worst they can say is that they are sorry and they can't give you any special deals.

I am on a two year contract and I got a deal, I asked her how much it was going to cost me to cancel and she figured it out, it was like 11 bucks per month remaining on the contract and I just said yea the wife will want to do it anyways and the deals starting coming....

Wow, you guys rule.

6 months free HBO

6 Months free Hi-Def

$100 Instant Credit

Free Supper Fan

NFL package at $200.

The first time I tried, I got an unaccommodating employee and wound up canceling the ticket.

Later that night I called back saying that I regretted doing it and asked if they could help me sell my wife on getting the ticket back. I got them to knock down the ticket to 189.00, got the Super Fan for free, got them to upgrade an HD tuner to an HD DVR at no cost, they also replaced an older Tivo with a new HD DVR at no cost and extend the lifetime subscription the older Tivo had to the new HD DVR.

Third time's the charm.

4 months Premium Channel package (hbo, skinemax, showtime, starz, and fox sports channels, etc.)

Sunday Ticket

Superfan

5 LNB Dish

HD/DVR Receiver

I was paying in the neighborhood of 85.00 per month....plus the ST came to about 125.00 for five installments....I got all the above for 69.99 per month for the four months and then I can downgrade back to original programming and still have ST, superfan, and the HD/DVR, plus keep my normal HD receiver for another tv at no extra cost.

Actually its so confusing I don't even know if I am saving any money........ :bag: It is some savings anyway and at least I'll be ready when the new HD channels come live, and I will have the games they broadcast in HD....plus Skinemax so its all good.

I got my new LNB5 dish installed today and the tech was very informative and help correct a couple of minor issues with my other HD box. If you have the HR10 series of any DTV box it will not work with the new HD channels coming out. It is MPEG-2 and the new ones are MPEG-4. Guess that explains why I got a free H10-250 last year. Looks like I now have ammo to call customer retention.

My call wasn't as productive but I constantly call in and fenagle with them so I am out of freebies in general. However they agreed to upgrade my HD Tivo & dish to be compatible with the upcoming changes for only $99, and then I talked them into the Superfan Package for free. So basically I'm paying full price for the ticket, which sucks, but is still cheaper for me than going to a bar to watch all my games. Plus I'll call them in 6 months and get something for free for 3 months or something. I usually get a lot in return from DTV and the day started out with me having to pay $299 to upgrade and $99 for superfan and I got out of it for only $100.

BTW, anyone want to buy a 1080i HD TiVo?

10 minute call

Total savings $273

I got the $10 per month 1 year = $120

$15 X 4 installments for ST = 60

2 for 1 HBO/Skinimax $11 per month, 3 mo's = $33

$10 HD access fee 6 mo's = $60

Thanks guys. I'm going to do this more often! She sounded like she was ready to give more, but couldn't because "she couldnt do them all at once". I used the "crappy wife", "too expensive", and "Dish network" excuses.

Ironically enough I already have Dish (international channels) and Cable(internet only). Also most important - No New Contract.

15 minute call - used the "My wife wants to move to Dish" excuse

Total savings $440

I got the $10 per month for 1 year discount = $120

$10 HD access fee waived for 1 year = $120

Offer to upgrade my HD receiver for $99 instead of $299 ($200 savings)

1 year contract required.

I told her that it was tempting but instead of saving money I was spending money (the $100) so I need to go home and discuss with the wife. I'll call back later with another story.

got this email from DTV

Ugh. Say no to contracts if possible. Good luck on your call.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm just about fed up with the price of Sunday Ticket. When I started subscribing, I paid $129 for the entire season. Since then, the price has gone up $10 or $20 every year and this year it's going to be $229 (up from the $219 I was fed up with last year)! The price is so high that now they have you paying in FIVE monthly installments instead of four.I love football as much as anyone else. And I LOVE NFL Sunday Ticket. But when is enough enough? Has anyone on here cancelled? I'm pretty sure there are more subscribers every year, even with the increasing price. So all we're doing is telling the NFL that we love and need football so much that they can probably do whatever they want and we'll pay it.As an aside... I just called and crabbed at the DirecTV people about the price and they gave me a $50 credit. So you might want to give that a try. :excited:
OP here... I called back last night and told them I had a couple of "buddies" who called and got free Superfan and I wanted the same deal. The lady checked and told me she couldn't do it, so I asked for Customer Retention. I repeated the same thing to the next lady about my "buddies" and she disappeared for awhile and then came back and said they were adding the Superfan to my account for free. So that brings my total to:first call$50 instant credit$10 off for 12 monthsfree HD for 6 monthssecond/third/fourth callfree Superfan

I got this email, too.I am excited about the new SUpercast feature which will allow me to turn my 19" PC screen into a "TV" for viewing yet another NFL game, from the 3 other games I will already have on my 3 DTV recievers, and my two local channel TVs. 6 games in all at one time.

This is the exact angle that I was thinking of taking. I just emailed DTV and used this. I'll write back when/if I get a responce. By the way...great job here fellas!

great thread guys

just called and got

-free Superfan

-free HD for a year

- free HBO/Showtime for a year

and I didnt need to re-up on a contract.

thanks again

Depending on your account standing (do you pay on time? how long have you subscribed to DirecTV?) you can get some deals without threatening to cancel/switch to cable, etc. I just called and asked about an HD upgrade, got a standard offer (no real discounts), then asked if they could do any better.

The CSR put me on hold for a bit, then came back with a nice deal. Not as fantastic as some of you, but better than I expected, especially with about 12 months left on my commitment. Be nice. It depends on the CSR, but that does work too.

I got Super Fan for free last week. I didn't push the price of the ST as there is more time to negotiate.

A guy on a Jets board just wrote: "D TV called me last night and offered me the Sunday Ticket for 4 payments of $30 plus Superfan for free. I said hell yeah. I have had the Sunday Ticket for about four years but canceled this year because I live in NY and have no time to watch the other games. But at that cost how could I turn them down."

Wow, you guys rule.6 months free HBO6 Months free Hi-Def$100 Instant CreditFree Supper FanNFL package at $200.
Wow - I did some reading on the new Dish with all the new Hi Def programing. So I called back and asked about this, so baiscaly they are now giving me all of the above, a new 5 prong dish and the newest of recivers with for no cost, 6 free months of TiVo, they also cut the NFL package to $120 and threw in another $50 in insta credit - but I did have to sign up for 2 more years.Granted - it's two more years but I planed on staying anway. Combine the upgrade and the fact i can now get my local channels in hi-def plus added Tivo and all the discounts already detailed above you guys just saved me a whole lot of cash!

Incorrect. You always reup your commitment any time you activate any new equipment. And you can get deals anytime if you get the right CSR and can negotiate. I think I've been under some sort of contract or other for the past 5 years. Put me on a 5 year contract for all I care, like I'm going anywhere.

I emailed them last night and got a reply today that a customer service rep will contact me by phone within the next 48 hours to "discuss how they can meet my needs". I'm pumped!

OK I just got the call and all the girl could offer me was free Superfan. Heck, I'm happy to get that but I am going to try again later in the week and go for more.

Just a quick call for now:

Free superfan

$10.00 of for 6 months

Total Saved $169.00

I will call later & get more. I guess I will have to upgrade to the 5 LNB dish sometime in September to get all the HD channels. I have laid the groundwork for that.......

Squeaky Wheel GETS THE GREASE!

Eight year Directv subscriber who's paid full Sunday Ticket price past two seasons. After reading this thread I decided to try to pull a deal...

Called Direct earlier this week & spoke with the cancellation/customer retention rep. Simply told her that ST was too pricey for the amount I'd watch it & that I was thinking about cancelling it. In addition, as a long-time customer, was I eligible for any discounts. She had a nice (but not an "I'll do anything I can to keep you as a customer") attitude. Her offer to me was:

$10 off my bill x 6mos ($60 savings)

Free Superfan ($99 value)

No addt'l 2nd receiver charge x 6mos ($30 savings)

3 free months of HBO,Max,& Showtime ($99 value)

TOTAL FIRST OFFER: $288 in savings/ offers

Not bad...

After speaking with Dish Network & getting their best "swap networks" deal (free installation, free HD-DVR to 2 rooms, 6mo HBO/Max, & free DVR service unitl Jan. '09), I called back to Directv today & got another cancellation rep. She was a lot friendlier from the get go after I explained I was considering going to Dish (I actually was at that point) based on what they were offering but liked Directv & ST & wished to stay with them if they would work with me. After explaining what she could do & me telling her what I wanted, here's the end result;

FREE installation of 2 new DVRs (I only pay $19.95 for shipping, tacked onto next month's bill)

FREE Superfan ($99 value)

$10 off bill for x 12 mos ($120 savings)

FREE DVR service x 12 mos ($36 savings)

FREE HBO,Max, & Showtime x 6 mos. ($198 value)

TOTAL 2ND OFFER: $453 in savings/offers

Also, she said I could upgrade at no charge to an HD DVR after 6 months (something about them only being able to offer new deal in 6 month intervals) if I got an HDTV, and, the installation technician would fix a wall plate outlet that I was never happy with when he came out. The ONLY sticking point was that I signed on for a 2-year contract to stay with Directv, but I've never really wanted to switch to another service anyway, based on their service...

All in all, I think it came down to me approaching the CR rep with a pleasant, well-informed attitude and not just a "what can you do for me" type call. I was up front with what I was looking for & willing to listen to her deals she made. She helped me out, & I'm happy for another year

2 weeks ago I called Direct TV to see about putting in another waiver for local channels (both SD and HD since I live in God-awful West Texas).

The HD dept has to do a seperate waiver and the lady helping me couldn't for the life of her, xfer me to that department. About 10-15 mins go by and I pipe up with, "ya know, with all this trouble, I wouldn't say no if you found a way to give me SuperFan for free if I signed up for ST right now..." (I was 1/2 kidding and she knew that too, but was a sweet girl).

Well, she hooked me up. Free Super Fan for me this year...and I'm a DTV subscriber for 5 months now. That's all!

Ill never cancel
It's attitudes like this why Direct TV will keep going up.you guys are crazy. You're at $329 for ST in HD?.... plus your regular monthly bill!

I'll stick with my HD cable and suffer through the choice of 2 1:00 games, 2 4:00 games as well as Sun, Mon, and Thurs games.

Not to mention the NFL Networks "NFL Replay" where they re-air 6+ games a week.

Thats plenty of NFL for me.
You are clearly insane.

Just talked to customer retention...

Free Total Choice premier for 4 months -$400

Free Super fan -$99

Free HD service for 1 year - $120

Pay 69.99 month for the NFL Ticket

So in total, my bill went down about $5 a month and I got the NFL Ticket and Super Fan for free plus free HD service for a year....

Well I got my call. The rep would not budge on anything. No free Superfan, no discount on ST. Nothing. After 5 frustrating minutes, I told her to make a note on my account that I would be switching to Verizon Fios when it becomes available in my neighborhood this Fall. All she did at that point was remind me of my commitment. I was so steamed I said thanks again and hung up.

Call retention back tomorrow! I will be doinng the same.

I've been a DTV subscriber since 1997 and I vaguely remember calling last year around this time. I called CR today and after a brief conversation with a very helpful young lady where I mentioned the fact that my wife was fed up with the ST increases and wanted to go with the new offers from DISH, she set me up with the following: For $69.99 a month for 4 months, ST including superfan, 4 months of premier choice(every channel), free HD for 12 months, free dvr subscription for 12 months, and an upgraded HD DVR w/installation of the 5 LNB dish for $99. No 2 year contract commitment. I said thank you very much and good day.

I kinda hear what you're saying Bossman, but paying full price equates to around $350 ...that's $20 a WEEK! ...$3.33 an hour!! (6 hrs on sunday)...then when you call in and get all the discounts we're only looking on average of around $100 ...that's $5.88 a WEEK ...$.98 an hour!! (6 hrs on sunday)Given there's always a 3 hour sunday night game on ESPN ...I'm left with only 3 hours of expensive porn/hr. costs, but that's for another thread...where's the problem here? SO well worth the cost IMO. ;) One

Well with all the calls I've made to customer retention - $20.00 credit per month for Premier Package ($120.00) savings

2 months ago Free SuperFan - ($99.00) savings

New dish and HiDef DVR to get all the new channels - installed (120.00 savings)

I had to also agree to a 2 year contract - but I'm not going anywhere either.

total savings $340.00 not as much as some but not bad for a few phone calls.

I have been a customer for going on 2 yrs!

Well I got a little break in that the installers who were supposed to be there between 12-4 came at almost 8!! DTV is giving me $100 credit for On Time Gaurantee which brings me to:Upgraded 5LNB whatever HD DVR freeSuperfan Free$100 knocked offAnd if I can sell my TiVo to someone I can end up with a profit on the deal.

Well, 1st try got me a $15 credit for four months for ST from a pretty stiff CR rep. Not bad for 5 minutes of my time. I'll definitely be calling back, though.....
