DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket (1 Viewer)

$10 monthly credit for 1 year

Upgraded HD DVR free

Still "paying" full price for The Ticket and Superfan

but $10x12=$120,makes up for Superfan($99) plus a little

and free equipment upgrade is worth The Ticket price for me

Well, 1st try got me a $15 credit for four months for ST from a pretty stiff CR rep. Not bad for 5 minutes of my time. I'll definitely be calling back, though.....
Got another pretty unsympathetic rep on call #2, and the "wife threw a hissy fit when she saw this months' bill" had little effect on her. I even got the "you are under contract and will have to pay if you chose to cancel your service" speech. I did get a "courtesy credit" of one installement payment on the ST, which is $56 including the tax. So a total of $116 off the ST for about 15 minutes work ain't too bad. I'll give it another shot next week to see if they can offer up some of those $10/month credits or upgrade my receiver for a song deals.

Ok After only getting free Superfan on my first call, I called back today. The girl was pretty cool and seemed willing to help me out. She put me on hold and came back with $10 off my bill for 6 months. I basically asked her if she could do better and she told me she'd talk to her manager and put me on hold again. She came back with free HD for a year which right now is a $120 value. Since we had signed a new two year contract last Xmas I figured they had the upper hand so I took the deal. All in all I got...

free Superfan $99 value

free HD $120 value

total savings of $219

Definetly worth 2 phone calls.

I accidentally posted this in another thread:

I just called the phone number on this card DTV sent me about a year ago telling me that I was a preferred customer. I have been a DTV subscriber since 8/04 and had Sunday Ticket and other sports packages. I am under contract since I upgraded to a HD DVR HR20 less then a year ago. Here is what I got:

Free 2nd HR 20 w/ pro install ($299)

Free Super Fan ($99)

I had to pay full price for Sunday ticket $269 and 2 more years.

I will call back in Sept. when I add NHL Center Ice and see if I can work any other deals.

Also note that DirecTV called to schedule the install and could not get an appointment till Oct. 3. I told the Rep that this was totally unacceptable and to cancel the order and ship the equipment so I could install it myself. This would have only prolonged the issue so she gave me a $100 service credit.

Third time was bit more lucrative:Free HD DVR with free install ($19.95 for shipping)$10 monthly credit for 12 monthsFree HBO/Showtime/Cinemax for six monthsI mentioned Dish Network this time, as they are offering some pretty good deals to get people in the door there. It definitely pays to call back until you get a rep willing to deal, though..... :lmao:

It took me three calls to the customer retention dept., but I finally got someone who was willing to deal. Definitely mention that you are thinking about switching over to Dish Network as a new customer to cut down on monthly costs. I have been a Directv customer since Jan. 2001 and a Sunday Ticket subscriber since then as well. I was not under contract.

The guy basically hooked me up with the new Directv subscriber deal and a few extras:

Total Choice Premier for 4 months $69.99 (includes HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc.)

$10 off Total Choice Premier for 4 months - making it $59.99

NFL Sunday ticket - no charge

HD Package - free for one year

Free HR20 (HD DVR) and 5 LNB dish upgrade

2 year commitment

Unfortunately I was not able to score up the free Superfan, but I will be calling back in a few days to see what they can do. I can downgrade the TC Premier to what I had before in four months - no problem. It will be nice to have HBO since "Curb" is starting back up in a few weeks.

I had actually canceled my Sunday Ticket renewal about a month ago, but after watching Bad Rex fumble several snaps Monday night I had "Sunday Ticket cancellation remorse" and decided to try and get it back. I don't want to be stuck watching the Bears with Rex at the helm...I don't have that much hair left as it is.

Good Luck!

10 minute call--asked to cancel my service. Used the "my HUSBAND freaked out on the lastest bill and cost of Sunday Ticket and wants to switch to Dish excuse" Immediately she gave me $20 off ST for 4 months--then I still paused and she said she could take $10 off my bill for the next 12 months. No luck with Superfan but I'll take $200 in savings for basically nothing. :fishing:

Been with DTV for 5 years always with the Ticket and Superfan, not to mention HD service and 6 receivers. I want to save some money (duh) and upgrade to an HD-DVR.

Called today and got transfered to some guy who probably spent more time breathing into the phone than talking to me while he looked up and entered various things on his computer. Gave him the line of just added a baby to the family and looking to cut costs (true) plus wife is freaking out at the size of our DTV bill (semi-true). Went with the story that if I sacrifice the Ticket, I could switch to Dish, get the HD DVR I want, and lower my monthly bill.

He ultimately offered:

Free Super fan ($100) -OR- Free HD DVR ($300 value)

plus

$10 off bill for 12 months ($120)

I told him I would have to think about it and call back. He gave me a different toll free number, and a pin# good for 5 days (I think to avoid waiting on hold).

I'm tempted to take the offer (chosing the DVR) , but part of me hates the "free HD DVR" racket, since with DTV you dont even own the equipment anyway. Why should there even be a $300 charge in the first place.

Another option is to take the superfan, and call back in a couple weeks and try to score the DVR.

OK FBGs, whats the play here?

Take the free superfan and then call back Monday and tell them that the superfan is great for YOU but the wife was not impressed because you are still paying the same as you were before and that she's still not happy. I did this and ended up getting free HD for a year on top of free superfan.

I just signed up for their year plan w/ the $69.99 for month premium/Sunday NFL Ticket offer. Is there something I should know about their service?

I would definitely call back and try for a better deal. I have found that it really is roulette with the CSR's @ Directv. I'm sure within a few calls you can find someone willing to give you a package deal for the the HD-DVR and Superfan. You will most likely have to do a 2 year committment though.

I would call back and try for free Superfan. I just got off the phone with a rep this afternoon and kind of played "dumb" about Superfan - that I didn't realize it was another $99 to add HD and that was going to be a dealbreaker with my wife. The guy put me on hold for a few minutes and came back and said that he could give it to me for free this year, but next year I would have to pay full price. Of course that's what they told me last year... It never hurts to call and ask and as long as you say "cancel service" in the menu options I have never had to wait more than a few minutes to talk to a customer retention rep. Good Luck!

Directv's service is basically ok. My biggest gripe has been that they have the habit of dragging their feet on adding new channels (especially HD) and taking forever to deliver on other "upgrades". After you have been with them for a while - feel free to call them up and try to work pricing deals. It is not unheard of to get $10 off your bill for 6 months; Free HBO and\or HD channels for 6 months, etc. That is one good thing about them - they typically take care of their customers...sometimes it takes multiple calls though. Some reps are willing to work with you more than others...it is very random.

I called back today, got someone much more willing to help. Ended up with similar deals to what others have got:- Free Superfan ($100)- $10/mo credit for 12 months ($120)- Free HD-DVR receiver ($300)- 3 months free HBO ($???)...and as expected, had to sign up for another 2 years (not an issue for me). So, $520 in savings plus whatever HBO value is...although I still don't view the $300 for the receiver as a "deal"...more like just getting what I deserve in the first place. So, yet more evidence that if you keep calling, you should be able to get a good deal.

RETENTION DEPARTMENT UPDATE!!

AFter a few unsuccessful attempts at a discount, I finally landed someone helpful.

Corrine in the Retention Department gave me this:

SUNDAY TICKET for ... $69.99 !!!

SUPER FAN - FREE

Upgrade to Premium Programming FREE for 4 months. All movie channels, sports pack and DVR included

Afterwhich, the premium package is $99.99 per month.

I was under the Total Choice for $51.99

HBO and Showtime for $24.00

DVR for $5.99

What was costing me $82.00 will now cost me $99 per month, but getting it free for 4 months equates to a $360 savings, or over a year span $30 per month.

I used to pay Sunday Ticket $250 per year, which was an additional $20 a month, so I look at this as a BIG TIME PAYDAY!!

I like my way the best (and cheapest):

I get the local Fox and CBS feeds high def...

I get an extra high def feed out of NYC which i had to petition DirecTV for (but got for free none the less).

Follow the other games on NFL.com on my laptop.

Honestly, I had Season Ticket one year and found it difficult to keep up with all of the games. didn't feel as if it was worth it. ...I don't have time to go back and watch all of the compressed games aftewards anyway. I do get NBA season pass which i think is much more of a value. Also, NFL Network shows the 4 best games during the week in a compressed format if you want to see something again.

15 minute call - used the "My wife wants to move to Dish" excuse

Total savings $440

I got the $10 per month for 1 year discount = $120

$10 HD access fee waived for 1 year = $120

Offer to upgrade my HD receiver for $99 instead of $299 ($200 savings)

1 year contract required.

I told her that it was tempting but instead of saving money I was spending money (the $100) so I need to go home and discuss with the wife. I'll call back later with another story.
Waited 2 weeks to call back. As soon as I got the recording I said "Cancel" and it got me right to the retention department.Told them the wife was still not happy and she wanted to move, explaining the $100 was still more than moving to Dish. Got the $100 reduced to $19.95 to cover installation (includes the new 5 LNB Dish). To strengthen my case, made mention that my wife thought the new DVR in the Master bedroom was too noisy and that I've come into the room to find it unplugged from the wall and lying on the floor (which is actually true).

Since I've been a customer since 1996 and have referred people, they definitely wanted to keep me.

Moved on and told her that I didn't really want to cancel Sunday Ticket and SuperFan, but at a minimum my wife wanted me to cancel Superfan because I couldn't justify the $100 - they gave me an immediate $100 customer retention credit.

I did have to sign a 2 year contract, but I think for the savings, it was worth it.

Total haul:

New HD DVR with new dish, savings:

$120

$120

$279

$100

$649 - That's about 33 years worth of FBG's subscriptions using the $3 year plans...

DirecTV ROCKS! In the past 4 months, I've gotten:

$15 off bill for 12 months

$10 off bill for 3 months

Free Showtime and Starz for 3 months

Free Superfan

Another $10 off bill for 6 months

$100 credit for missing a scheduled appt

Free HD DVR upgrade (Supposed to be $299)

Showtime for another 3 months

The cool thing, I only have 1 receiver, and just get the basic package with local channels. I also get the Sunday Ticket and NBA League pass.

I think I'm done now. I will recommend DirecTV to everyone!

Well I was seriously thinking about cancelling ST cuz it was so pricey. I already had gotten the Free Superfan... Anyway I decided to call to see if they had any deals and Melinda offered me $10 off ST for 6 months and free DVR service (5.99 a month) for 1 year! $132 total in savings! Extremely nice lady. So now Im only paying $117 for ST and Superfan!

Nice job, my man. :lmao:

AWESOME thread.

I just got off the phone with Sherri at DirecTV.

I used the "just had a 2nd child and the wife is complaining about the bill" approach. Worked like a charm.

She waived the last 2 payment for Sunday Ticket (2 X $45.80 = $91.60) and she gave me Superfan for free.

:goodposting:

after reading the last couple pages I got jealous of some of the offers and called them up. Just used the wife deal again, he saw the credits I allready had on there and still gave me a free month of whatever plan I have which was 60 bucks, so another 60 bucks off the ticket

(I thought for sure I was getting nothing when I heard a guys voice)

Just got free Superfan, plus $120 off of other programming. Was also offered a free gear upgrade - does anyone know anything about their new DVR? I know it's not Tivo, which is the only DVR I've ever had. You apparently need this new one in order to get an additional 30 HD channels. Anyone go down this path yet?

I did. Talked to customer retention and got the receiver and new dish and installation for free ($130.00 value) Told them I get your hi-def package and now to take advantage of your new hi-def channels I have to upgrade and pay for it - said money was tight and just couldn't afford it. The guy said if I would agree to a 2 year contract - it would all be done in a week for free! Sweet. Its in. It is quite different to the Tivo unit - but you get used to it. Now I get the locals in hi-def too. The installer also let me keep the Tivo - said people like to buy them and Direct didn't want it back. Also, he said that he heard that all major networks will be broadcasting everything in Hi-Def by the beginning of next year. Don't know if that is true of not - but thought I would pass it along.

if you're talking about the new HD DVR it's ok. NOT AS GOOD AS TIVO, but it is new, and they have worked out alot of the kinks. Like I said, it isn't as good as TIVO, but having the ability to record HD pgms makes it worth it. if i had the decision all over again, I would still get it. No real specific problems with it anymore, they are constantly sending software updates, if your getting a good deal get it.

don't have HD. called to cancel and got $10 off for 12 months and DVR waived for a year ($5.99/month). So $191.88 taken off for a 10 minute phone call and no contract.

Thanks for the thread to get me to do this

Here's my deal!!! I currently have the most expensive package. Along with Gameplan and Sunday ticket. My bill this month is $237. I called them and said my wife flipped out about the bill. I said I need to do something. She said what kind of package fits your budget. I then asked when my contract was up. She said May 2009 and it would be $300 to get out of it. She then says the reason my bill is so high is because of the the gameplan and Sunday ticket. I then slammed down the phone!

I then slammed down the phone!
Are you anxiously waiting by the phone?Your negotiating tactics could use some help.
:lmao:
I guess if you're a customer that has everything they have to offer. There's no need to cut you deal :goodposting:
you should have said well 300 bucks is pretty close to my bill next month so she still wants to cancel everything then. call back.....mine was like 150 to cancel and I got a couple deals....

General Ticket question - In the past, there was a channel that you could go to in order to see if Sunday Ticket was active. Is there any such channel this year?

I'll be at the stadium watching the Jags but my wife the Steeler fan will be mad if the game isn't on.

:stillers:

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm just about fed up with the price of Sunday Ticket. When I started subscribing, I paid $129 for the entire season. Since then, the price has gone up $10 or $20 every year and this year it's going to be $229 (up from the $219 I was fed up with last year)! The price is so high that now they have you paying in FIVE monthly installments instead of four.I love football as much as anyone else. And I LOVE NFL Sunday Ticket. But when is enough enough? Has anyone on here cancelled? I'm pretty sure there are more subscribers every year, even with the increasing price. So all we're doing is telling the NFL that we love and need football so much that they can probably do whatever they want and we'll pay it.As an aside... I just called and crabbed at the DirecTV people about the price and they gave me a $50 credit. So you might want to give that a try.
I have had it since it came out and have upgraded to SuperFan... The truth is whatever I pay right now$300... $400... The truth is I'd pay more given the amont of enjoyment I experience sitting in my home watching 14 games every sunday most in 1080p. Me, my laptop, my fantasy team(s), my couch, my big screen, watching football with my son while I eat a bowl of my wife's chili. God bless America.I think I'm going to start humming that Monday Night Football song...

I haven't seen it. I'm thinking maybe if you tune to the 700's it will be a blank screen with Upcoming in the title and you won't see the "to order..." bar at the bottom. And so much for me canceling...$10 off/month for 12.

I can't justify it as a parent. Fantasy Football is fun and all, but there's no way I'm going to watch football all day instead of spending time with my kids. (And I challenge any of you who choose otherwise and still wonder why kids today get fubar'd up in life.. but I digress.)

Since I'm not watching games all day Sunday, $229 for a handful of games that I might record and watch later doesn't seem worth it to me.

I'd be much happier with a pay-per-view approach, but I do understand the concept of "yield management" that NFL actuaries are running.

Well, no free superfan or ST for me, but they did agree to:

$10/mo for a year ($120)

free DVR 12 mos ($72)

free HBO 6 mos ($78)

Total = $270

Still end up paying full boat for ST & Superfan, however - so in the end it is all a wash.

On a positive note (if you're a Directv stock owner), even with all the discounts, I'm still paying them over $1000/year. That's not a bad racket. :P

So, let me see if i can summarize this:

1 - Call DirectTV and complain about your bill

2 - Say something to the effect of "i am thinking about canceling the service"

3 - Wait for deals to come rolling in

Simple as that? Really? Sorry for not reading 9 pages of posts, but is that all there is to it?

Are you serious?I don't mean to come down on you specifically but you are the reason I'm in sales. There is a sucker born every minute. So you are happy spending $300 a month for this without trying ot get some sort of discount? The whole idea is to BLUFF. Just tell them you're unhappy with the rising costs and ask what they can do for you. I guarantee you they'll give you something. I got Sunday Ticket for half the price and free Superfan for just making a call and asking.

I called DTV and they said the free upgrade to the HD DVR program ended on 9/1.... RRRGGGHHH Time to call the Retention department.

Interesting. Satellites must not be as expensive as they are made out to be. Didn't realize this this sort of strategy was healthy for ol bottom line. I think i may have ot make a phone call next chance i get :X

I liked the Tivo unit ALLOT more than the new DVR. I really miss switching between the tuners and being able to rewind each independently. Unless you record on both tuners, you cannot do this with the new DVR. I do thisnk it is worht it for the additional HD channels though....

Free Superfan ($99), waived DVR fee for 1 year ($60), waived HD fee for 1 year ($120), wiaved HBO fee for 6 months ($78). Total savings: $357! :)

I cancelled the Sunday ticket just before they started auto charging. I called up yesterday and asked em to re-add it only if i can get the superfan for free, and they did. Not much hassle either.

ok heres my deal i got with customer retnetion it took alot of #####ing.... free hr 20 hd dvr receiver only paid shipping and handling..... free hd programming for 6 months, free super fan and free hbo for 3 months.... thats alot of savings more than 200 buck thats for sure......

After proscrastinating on this for months, took a stab this morning before I lose a lot of leverage with the start of the season. Here's what I ended up with:

$10/month service discount to offset the price of SuperFan ($120 savings)

Free equipment upgrade to HD DVR ($99 - $20 handling = $79 savings)

3 months free of Showtime (could have chosen any of the movie channels ($36 savings)

Free year of HD package after I asked if they had any deals for this similar to the movie channels ($120 savings)

Total savings $355

Forgot to go for the free DVR service, but did pretty well overall.

EDIT: since a few people are having problems doing this today, here is the route I took. I opened with i noticed that Sunday Ticket and SuperFan had auto-renewed and I wanted to cancel these since the prices have increased greatly, and I also don't want to get locked-in to the full season as I am considering cancelling full DirecTV service because my equipment doesn't support the new HD channels that are coming. This brought the above offers, proposed by them in order listed.
