Do we dare start Hernandez? (1 Viewer)

Wondering if Bill usually plays resently injured players in a full time role? I'm in a Tight End premium league, and I would rather start Hernandez at flex than Benson and Mike Williams (TB).

I'm wondering the same thing. He could have a very good week but who knows how much of the injury still lingers.

Paging Yudkin. TIA

i think it's risky. if you have another option go with that imo. obviously the high ceiling is there but the floor is pretty low this week if he only gets limited snaps and i don't think there's anyone who could say for certain that it'll be one way or the other.

i'm going to wait a week.

I've got him in over Keller. I think Belichick takes Keller out of the game like he did in their 2nd and 3rd meetings last year. I want that big upside.

Even though I worry about how much he'd be used, I'm still tempted to start him @ flex (NOT a TE mandatory league). I don't really like my options (MWTB or McGahee), but since all three are in late games, I'll at least know if Hernandez is active before deciding for sure. My opponent projects to score pretty well this week, so I might roll the dice w/ Hernandez & go for upside (or downside since I own Brady too).

if you play in a league that allows you to make lineup decisions up til kickoff of each game, then take a wait-and-see approach. in leagues where lineups lock once the early games commence, you don't have a choice. however, i have crabtree currently in there who plays in a later game. thus, if i'm whooping my opponent after the first slate of games, i'll probably avoid the riskiness of hernandez. conversely, if it's not looking so great and i need big upside, i'll take my chances with hernandez, assuming he isn't ruled out.

:goodposting:I'm rolling with him, as I can change him out for someone else up until kickoff. I'd expect, if he is active, he will play like he is 100% (even if he is not). Otherwise, if you don't have that ability in your league, I would suggest looking for an alternative this week.

My 2 cents:If he suits up (I believe he will), I think he will be actively involved the whole game (unless it becomes a blow out). If he is cleared to play he plays and with ww likely to be getting a lot of attention they will need Hernandez to produce (again, I believe he will).

 I'm thinking I'm going to have to bench him with all my other flex options going early. Could end up as VJax insurance I spose.

I have heard that he is expected to play and should really be listed as probable. I still am wondering about this situation and I still think there is a chance that last second Hernandez tries getting loose and suffers a sudden set back and is a late scratch. That last part is all my spidey sense, but the first part about him being likely to play is other people talking.

That's the prudent thing to do but I think I'm rolling the dice. I have Winslow in the lineup now but if Hernandez is active I'm putting him in.My team has been decimated by byes and injuries this week and I think I have to go with the upside here.

:goodposting: this is a very important game the Pats. They don't want to play a playoff game @NYJ again. I'll go a step farther and say that Hernandez is a strong candidate to score a touchdown. My take: The Jets defensively will put Revis on WW. If they play their safety over the top, chances are they have been prepping to take away Gronk (cheating towards Gronk like the Raiders did). That leaves Hernandez open in the opposite seam, at least at times. My guess on the Pats offensive side will be to start the game running the ball. IF they are successful (and that is a big if), then I could see they safety being forced to cheat towards the line (in addition to keeping an eye on Gronk). If that starts happening . . . well, you can't be in three places at the same time. The wild card in my mind is how the Jets mix up the blitz. If they can keep Brady on his butt, control the rushing game by keeping their rushing lanes, then it becomes more of a Jets type of game.I think regardless, if Hernandez plays, the Jets will play it so he needs to prove he's a threat before they adjust. Therefore, I think he will score a td in this game. Brady and the Pats are just too good at scheming and involving players into the flow of the game.

it's obviously a risk, but I don't think bb would eat a spot and roll him out there if he was going to hurt the team's chances.

during the week they were game planning 2 te -- not 3 wide.

I'll plug him in.

The bolded part is where I agree. And it makes starting Hernandez awfully tempting. Against any other D I would probably bench him this week. But with the chance that Revis shuts down WW, I may have to roll the dice with Hernandez

I'm also rolling with Hernandez today as my flex. (over D. Moore)

Starting Gronk and Hern today and my opponent has Brady. Need to neutralize Brady's upcoming big day. Also picked up the Patriots defense, as I think they will steamroll the Jets today.

Why don't they want to play a playoff game @NYJ??? The last time they played a playoff game @NYJ was 2007 and thet won 37-16. before that you have to go back to 1985, and thet won that game to.Anyways, Hernandez will play, and play alot. He will draw coverage from Cromartie when he is on the field.

From Rotoworld:

Aaron Hernandez - TE - Patriots

Aaron Hernandez (knee) is expected to be active Sunday against the Jets, but Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe doesn't anticipate much of an impact from the second-year tight end.

It sounds like Hernandez will be eased back in after a two-week layoff. CSN New England's Tom Curran has insisted all along that Hernandez's MCL injury was a 4-6 week situation, so it'd probably be unfair to expect Hernandez to be a full-time player in just the third week. Chris Wesseling and Gregg Rosenthal have Hernandez ranked 12th among Week 5 tight end plays. Hernandez will be a locked-in top-ten option once he proves his health in games.

Ugh... Was all set to put him back into my lineup. I wonder if he'll be on a snap count or something? Maybe used as a bit of a decoy? Seems kind of weird. May just roll with Cook instead.

I just don't see BB putting him on the field as a decoy and the guy is not a good blocker. If he is active he plays!

IMO - He will be active and catching passes but he may not on the field as many snaps as normal. The Pats play packages (there are no WR, RB, or TE starters).

Last year he was a GTD for week 15. I think he was actually listed as doubtful the whole week. He ended up playing, catching 4 passes for 31 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was hurt enough that he ended shutting it down for the last two games. Obviously if you have an elite alternative I'd go that route but even if Hernandez plays a limited amount of snaps he's still a top 10 option at worst.

September 20, 2009 Winner: New York Jets 16–9 Stadium: Giants StadiumSeptember 19, 2010 Winner: New York Jets 28-14 Stadium: New Meadowlands Stadium

January 16, 2011 Winner: New York Jets 28-21 Stadium: Gillette Stadium

Seems to me that the Jets have won the last 2 against NE at home and BEAT this NE team AT NE (in the playoffs) just 9 months ago. Why do YOU think NE wants avoid playing the Jets @ NY?

EDIT TO ADD: I see what I wrote. Scratch the "again". They don't want to have to play the NYJ in the Playoffs, especially at NY.

Big Game.

Sheesh I can't believe I'm starting him over nate washington. I feel like an idiot, but I can't deny the sway of the pool.

I hope he does, and I hope he has a big game. I need to trade for a WR.
Same here. I got him on WW (small league, didn't realize that when I joined) to back up Finley. But my league is lame, I called them all pansies who do bad things with donkeys and dogs in the message board and nobody even responded. Hard to trade in a league like that.Doesn't seem so far that the TEs are enjoying a good game. Is it the Jets D?

Alot of looks. Hernandez should have had a TD. Brady's pick at the end of the half was a TD off his fingers.

Jets are bringing 2-3 blitzing every play it seems. 3 blitzing on last 3rd down. A CB got into Brady on the incomplete to Hernandez.

Per Rotoworld: "Hernandez returned to action by playing on 65-of-81 snaps and wearing a bulky brace on his left knee. "He's in here early, he stays late, he's leaving when the coaches are leaving," said Belichick after Sunday's win. "He got behind the defense a couple of times, so obviously he has his speed back."

Looks like Hernandez is good to go with 65 snaps and 9 targets the first game after injury.

I like that they threw deep to him on a couple of plays...unfortunately they ended in pass interference penalties and not fantasy points...but it was great to see him right back into the game plan and giving him chances to hit a homerun.
