Simple question. I'm not talking about an 8am appointment where you brush from the morning and have a clean mouth. Let's say it's a 2pm appointment, you've had lunch, maybe some coffee, and it's time for your appointment. Do you make sure to brush before you go or do you go without since they are cleaning your teeth anyway?

:brush:

Definitely brush. They use that ####### pick before cleaning so the more plaque if can get off on my own, the better.

Yes. I brush and floss before. Best foot forward. At the very least you won't be breathing lunch breath in their face or have any food stuck in your teeth.

Yes, but really just as a courtesy. Similar to not going to the hair stylist right after the gym or something without washing my hair.

I literally almost started this thread last week. Had a regular cleaning appointment, was in the restroom at work, brushing and flossing, and thought to myself, "How many people actually do this? Gotta ask the FFA."

I do it entirely out of courtesy also.

No. My dentist's office used to be across the street from a Tommy's burger joint. I'd get a chili cheese burger combo before my appointment.

As a kid I had a dentist who was kind of a richard. One day my mother picked me up after lunch from school for an appointment. I didn't brush my teeth. I got to the office, sat in the chair, the guy took one look in my mouth and said, "Gross! Go brush your teeth!"

While he definitely could have been nicer about it, I'm sure a relatively clean mouth is preferred upon arrival.

I've chatted with a few hygienists about this. The "subtle" way to do it is to make up some BS excuse as to why they need to rinse with mouthwash.

I do. But my new dentist also has everyone rinse with mouth wash before they start.

They also have neck pillows and dark sunglasses to wear while in the chair. :)

I always brush immediately beforehand, regardless of what time of day my appointment is. If you ask, any dentist office will give you a toothbrush and toothpaste to brush while you wait to see the dentist. It's a better use of time than reading an issue of Time magazine from June 2011 in the waiting room.
