On all holidays & days when the USA plays big soccer matches (and that be today vs Mexico). It's out and proudly waving!

I wonder how much money has been made from selling flags and how much benefit veterans would have gotten if it was instead donated to Veterans charities.

Found my flag in the grass yesterday morning.  The pole was broken and the bracket ripped from my house.  Had to be vandalism, no amount of wind could have accomplished that, and it was not windy.  My neighbor across the street saw me picking it up, came over, and said the same happened to him last week.

I will be flying another by the end of the coming weekend.

Ugh.  Wouldn't you love to have caught the person doing that. :hot:

My wife changes the darn thing every two weeks it seems she has a flag for every occasion or non-occasion.   During the 4th it is always the stars and stripes and maybe a few other times of year.

The irritant for me is that where the bracket attached to my house the siding is damaged.  I will have to replace a piece of siding, paint it, then mount a new bracket before flying the flag again, at least there.  Fortunately I have the materials in my garage.  The siding, matching paint, and whatnot so it wont take too long.

Nope. Funny thing is there are about a dozen Veterans and a few police officers in my neighborhood, none of which fly the flag.

Do it and hide a video camera.

No. Mostly because there are guidelines for displaying the flag (sunrise to sunset or keeping it illuminated in the dark, taking it down in inclement weather) that would be a pain to follow, and I'd feel bad if I didn't follow them.
This is it for me.  I couldn't guarantee I'd be able to do some of the stuff necessary in time.

Edit to add:
Once I retire, I will fly it daily.  I also intend to install an actual flagpole to do so.

That's part of it for sure.  We also find other ways to support the nation and serve our community.

And honestly, the country isn't the most important thing in our lives to bear witness.

do both
There are 40,000 charities dedicated solely or primarily to benefiting veterans. There are 400,000 charities who impact veterans lives.

The largest - Wounded Warrior Project - has a budget of $473M, which dwarfs American flag sales - around $300M.

Couldn't find data on how much that those 40K veterans charities raise, but the VA budget is $78.4B.

We recently put up a 20' pole and installed a solar light to keep her lit at night.  Love it.

There are plenty of websites and a couple of apps that will keep you updated on the half staff days.

With the systems they have now it would be cheap and easy to have some surveillance.   Many of my neighbors do.  I am confident whoever is doing this around the neighborhood will be caught on camera, or worse, soon.
And it will just be some kids being stupid which is what kids do best.

I presume so.  I know I did some assinine stuff as a kid, and at the time it was great, right up until consequences came into the equation.  I figure to let others deal with the community matter while I tend my own gardens, so to speak.

The solar light works for me. It looks great at night. And I'm lazy.

Next step, develop an app that puts the flag at half-staff for you.

I wonder how much money has been donated to Veterans charities because of someone seeing an American flag waiving and deciding to do something about the patriotic pride they get from it.

Steve Nardizzi and his former cohorts over there are among the biggest piles of human garbage around.

Our local high school band/football team fundraiser is essentially for the kids to come around and place a flag at the appropriate days in the year (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Veteran's Day, etc.) and pick it up the following day. It takes all of the guess work out of it and we don't actually own the flag so it's always in good condition and zero effort on my part while performing a fundraiser for their activities. Win-win.

Maybe get a video recorder set up with a good view of it.

Stars and Stripes is normally up, but we will liberally use our KU, Royals, and Chiefs flags.  May pick up a Sporting KC flag at some point.  Usually take flags down Dec-Feb, depending on weather.

Wow, that was pretty tacky.
Oh Jesus Christ relax. He was being cute and I was playing along. The point is I doubt very many people are going to be driving around, look at a flag, and then donate to veterans groups. Putting money in Arlington's collection box is a different thing.

I don't feel particularly tense, but thanks for the concern. And I reread it. I guess I just don't get it.

That's actually a good idea.
