Do you root for teams of players that you own? (1 Viewer)

I understand at the end of the year when a team is in playoff contention it makes for maximal effort from your players, but do you root all season long for teams of players that you own?

I feel like I'm in the minority but I don't have a favorite NFL team. I live in NJ and obviously have a bunch of friends who are NYG and NYJ fans but I don't gravitate to either. It probably has something to do with there being absolutely no football culture in my family and me being young but I can never relate to people who go nuts or get into arguments over their teams; I actually find it extremely odd. Every year I just end up rooting for players I like (doesn't even have to specifically be fantasy related), rarely actually rooting for any single team.

If it's going to help their situation heck yes. Doug Martin and Kirk Cousins are 2 guys that come to mind immediately for me this year. Since their teams are tanking I feel it's going to hurt them. Skins will bring back RG3 and I look for Tampa to throw Sims in there when he's healthy.

If they're giving my guy lots of touches/targets, I root for them. If they're not giving him the ball, I root against them.

I want them to have success when my guy is getting the ball a lot so they'll want to keep giving him the ball, and have trouble when they're not so they'll think that maybe they should get him involved.

For instance I love that Dallas is 5-1 while leaning on the running game since it means they know that running the ball means victories. I root against Pittsburgh inside the 10 because they never give Bell the ball there so I hope they keep settling for FGs.

Lifelong Steelers fan, and they are the only NFL team that truly matters to me (despite having a cousin that played for Da Bears)... but I root for fantasy players week's 1-16, and don't care at all for the team's they play for... and yes, I was loving me some Ben Tate on Sunday.

Come play-off time (NFL playoffs), I'm back in team mode hoping for another shot a ring. If the Steelers aren't in contention I just pull for the best story.

I root for the players, but not the teams. I'm a diehard Bucs fan and could never root for another team. Seeing them have success means a lot more to me than a fantasy roster. Obviously, with the Bucs sucking this year (well, the past 5 or 6 for that matter) and not being in playoff contention, I definitely don't mind if one of my fantasy guys is going up against the Bucs and has a big day.

RB's you want the team up early and pounding the run all day. Everyone other skill position on my team I'm hoping they're down a few scores so they can pass all day. Whether they win or lose doesn't matter to me, unless they're on the Skins. Which is why I try to avoid drafting players on my favorite team, makes the games more enjoyable to watch

That's a good strategy... plus being a Redskins fan, you have no fear of having to face those guys either. :pokey:

This is very close to me, in a nutshell.

I'm actually THE REVERSE of most fantasy players, in that I don't much care for a specific team. I'm more concerned about how it affects me, or more explicitly my fantasy team, and in essence my pocket.

When people ask me who my favorite team is, I always say the same thing......."My favorite team is my fantasy team, the guys I drafted".

They all look at me like I'm crazy. (of course some of these guys are fantasy players, and some aren't )

I will admit, that I do tend to like "underdogs" in general, teams like the Cleveland Browns. How many years have they suffered? I mean if nothing else, let them get a Superbowl for the fans alone.

Some are just diehard, and have been waiting and wanting for years, and that whole organization just seems to have a black cloud around it.

But anyway, I am not a huge football fan in general.

If it weren't for fantasy, I may not ever watch more than 5 minutes of a game all season.

Before I played fantasy 7-8 years back, I never watched a game for many years. Perhaps 10 minutes of a Superbowl was about it.

I guess you could say I'm more of a "fantasy fan" than a football fan.

Crazy, but thats the way it is.....................

Nope. In fact I root against my players' teams most of the time. IE- if I have Aaron Rodgers I want whoever's playing GB to keep scoring so GB doesn't take the foot off the gas. I don't care if GB wins or not.

Only team Im really a fan of is my college team. I enjoy Pro football but haven't really been a fan of any team in years. There are certain players I like outside of fantasy who I cheer for and then I cheer for my players to do well but don't really care how their teams do generally.

What? No.

IMO you can really only root for one team.

But I guess that's just the Eagles fan in me. Say what you will about us, but we're loyal.

As a Jets fan, my fantasy players provide a ton more entertainment on Sundays than my team does. If a player does well for me throughout the season, as long as they are not on a 'rival' team, I do find myself rooting for their chance at a ring.

I am a NYJ fan, and try to avoid playing opponents who have Jets players on them, so I do not have to root against the Jets. Over the last few seasons, that has not been a problem.

I only root for the Chargers. If my opponent has a Charger on his team, I root for that guy, too. Real football > Fantasy football. Go Bolts!

I never let FF affect who I root for. I pull for the teams that I want to pull for and it's often based on what helps/hurts the Saints. I play FF with expectations of how players will do and I'm happy or disappointed based on how that goes but I don't really "root" for them. However I never do own players that I cannot pull for because it kind of ruins the football experience for me. Basically I couldn't be happier if Julio Jones gets shut down in any given game so I would never own him. Ridiculous, I know...
