Do you think the bengals are being "fair" to Palmer? (1 Viewer)

I doubt I'm privy to all of the details, but I think if blame is to be handed out there is plenty to go to both parties. I.e....

Palmer could have approached the team himself, out of the public eye, and told them he wished to be traded or was ready to retire.

Palmer could have offered to return the prorated portion of his signing bonus, as the Bengals would essentially be paying him to play for an opposing team if they trade him. One thing if the Bengals decide they want to trade him and can live with the consequences. It's another when Palmer is trying to get them to do something they are under no contractual obligation to do, nor may they want to do it.

The owner could have been less vindictive, or at least appeared less so. He could have come out and just said we hope he comes to play for us this year but he chooses to retire, we respect that and thank him for the years we've had together.

He could also trade him. Although I do think there is some merit to a team being concerned they don't look like it's easy to force a trade, otherwise player can essentially hold them hostage like that in the future knowing they'll cave.

I don't think they have to be fair to Palmer. But they are being downright stupid in running an organization. Trade the guy and get an asset or two in return. Also I'm sure it tells other players to stay far away from that crappy organization.
Yep. Mikey will never succumb to an ultimatum. He will win this battle in his mind, wins on the field be damned. I don't know how anyone could even think of mentioning anybody else for worst owner in sports.

Not for nothing, but In seeing how teams tend to end their time with franchise QBs it seems that the Bengals are being a bit harsh with CP. I can understand not giving him an outright release, but to not even discuss a trade? Many of the all time greats got traded at the end of their careers. Montana, McNabb, Unitas, favre, and the list goes on and on. Not that Carson is an all time great, but it seems when a QB has put in his time and you know the relationship is this fractured, there should be a better end that "well retire then"Thoughts?
WTF you talkin about Jefferson? You must think life should be fair or something. Even then, CP knew the Koolaide he was drinkin.

The honoring the contract line is a joke. The players were locked out. F the owners. Teams do what's best for them as should players.

No reason for Palmer to play for the Bengals again. He has FU money and it might prolong his career to sit out then play for that crumby team. Cincy can proceed as if Palmer is not coming back and next year he can say he is ready to play. Cincy will be screwed cap-wise at that point and will have to deal him.

It's a cutthroat business. Ask Vincent Jackson.

Winning teams can take a tough stance. The Bengals cannot. Palmer didn't pull and E. Manning. He gave the Bengals his prime. It hasn't worked out. Time to move one.
