Do you think this Super Bowl will be the highest rated in history? (1 Viewer)

I can't find a list of highest rated Super Bowls, but do you think this one will be the highest rated ever?

If NE is going for 19-0 against Dallas, Green Bay, or New York, I would think this could topple the #1 ranking.

What is the highest rated TV program ever watched?

Was it M*A*S*H or something?

Assuming NE is in the Super Bowl who do you think would be the best opponent to draw the most viewers?

(DAL, GB, NY, SEA)

I think either NE vs. DAL or NE vs. GB would bring in huge ratings. And NE vs. NYG wouldn't be that far behind. I think NE vs. GB would be the dream matchup because it would bring in a certain David vs. Goliath feel to it, and it wouldn't be a rematch.

Yea, I said "If" NE makes it, and no, couldn't wait, very impatient, besides it's been 3 days since a NE thread had been started.

Jacksonville vs. Seattle would probably get the best ratings.
Dude, are you serious? ANY SB with an 18-0 Pats team will blow that game away ratings-wise. I'm hoping your post was sarcasm and I just missed it. Otherwise, step away from whatever substance you're ingesting.

The game has no shot at being the highest rated. The whole New England area will not watch, and there are not enough people in Green Bay or Indianapolis to make up the difference.

No offense, but you seem to miss sarcasm a lot.
That's probably a true statement. Wait, was that sarcasm???

Oh, I should have added, if NEis undefeated, I believe that yes, this will be the hgihest rated SB ever. I think the Joe Bag-o-doughnuts crowd will watch in droves if NE makes it that far. People that normally wouldn't watch or care otherwise. Just because it is a chance to see something that hasn't been done in 26 years or so. Not to mention that I think most networks will go out of their way NOT to put anything they want people to watch up against this game for fear of a horrible viewer rating.

Relax, I think what he's trying to say is that NE vs anyone would bring huge ratings. Were not saying they are going, just that if they do it would bring big ratings.

It's a shame the OP didn't use the word "if" in there. Oh wait, he did. Can't blame BB for missing it though. After all, it was buried at the beginning of the sentence.

Cool link, thanksOf the top 29 viewed TV events in our counties history 15 of them are the Super Bowl.

Its time we as a country make the day after the bowl a national holiday!!
Hardly a reason to have a holiday after a game...
Recovery?ETA: Oh, and this easily will be the most watched superbowl, no matter who is in it. Every year the NFL gets more exposure and almost every year a new record for viewers is set. It will never beat MASH's 70% rating though. No sporting event ever will(unless the US becomes soccer fanatics... over 1.2 billion people tuned into the FIFA 2006 finale :blackdot: )

My GF takes the day after the SB off every year. I just started so don't have that kind of vacation time to burn yet. :blackdot:

Actually, NE/GB would be a rematch of sorts. The two met in SB XXXI, so that angle would definitely hyped. But I agree with a previous post that this is WAY too premature. But hypothetically speaking, this could probably be the highest rated program in history if and only if the Patriots are involved because of the undefeated factor attracting even the most casual of fans. Everybody wants to be part of history.

Yeah, no doubt. I wish they would keep statistics on the number of Americans who are hungover after big events. I would bet morning after Super Bowl would be No. 2 behind New Year's Day.

Doesn't have anything to do with a hangover, not an alcohol induced one anyways. It's more of a mental hangover coupled with the game being as late as it is I think. Don't know for sure. Ask me after Feb whatever... I just know I'm jealous she gets to take the day off and I don't!

Not the biggest ever, since the fractured TV landscape will never bring in the type of ratings as in the past. But there are several matchups, even without NE, that would produce HUGE ratings: GB vs. anyone to see if Favre can win another, Manning vs. Manning, Eli vs. Rivers, with a sprinkle of LT.

You sure about that? The most recent SB on that list was 1998 and that came in 27th place.

Patriots/Cowboys and Patriots/Colts would both get extremely high and possibly record setting viewers... any other matchup and I don't think it would rank too high.

A Tennessee/Seattle SuperBowl would be funny though, it would probably be the lowest rated SB ever.

I think he means by viewers, not percentage of households...

I guarantee that the next time Pittsburgh and Dallas meet in the SuperBowl (perhaps in a year or two..?) that it will set the record though. When one of those teams is in it, the ratings are always very high, if both are in it, it will be huge

I think a Patriots/Colts SB would raise a lot of questions...

I think he was being sarcastic.... :lmao:

I think it would be NY vs. NE. you have the whole NY metro market seeing if they can knock off the unbeaten Pats (which they almost did already) and the rest of the country wondering whether the Pats could go undefeated. The Pats will bring in the most fans viewers on their own and the next team to draw interest would be the one with the largest TV market...NY.

The Superbowl is not about the diehards. It drwas its ratings from the casual viewer.

While I would personally love to see NE vs. GB, GB does not have the same casual interest viewer numbers as a city like NY.

All I know is, if it comes down to NE vs DAL, this place will become unbearable.

Did I read it somewhere that last PIT/SEA was the 2nd most watched Super Bowl ever?
According to the wiki link above, it was the 2nd highest since 2000. Not that that's saying much.
That viewership had nothing to do with Seattle because we live in a SteelerNation. Dallas is "America's team" but their still 2nd to the Steelers in terms of national fan base (at least for the last decade or so).

I'm in favor of restructuring the Playoffs and just seeding the teams 1-12.

Then we could potentially get the best 2 teams in the Super Bowl. Until then, it won't come close to setting a record.

Can you imagine a Patriots vs. Colts Superbowl?

Or, back in the day, Cowboys vs. 49ers?

etc. etc.

I would love this idea, and been wishing some professional sport would do it.

The key to this answer is Dallas.

Dallas is BY FAR the most popular team in the country this year...and it's not close.

If it's Dallas v an undefeated NE...I do think they garner the most viewers ever.

OT: Very disappointing avatar change!Back to your regular scheduled thread.

Superbowl viewing has little to do with the matchup. The Superbowl has forgotten football and the serious fan. the Superbowl, and it's ratings, are a function of which "star" will perform at halftime, which stars will be in the stands, and whether the commercials to be debuted have any buzz.

I'm figuring this year N.E. v. Dallas is the marquee matchup as the ladies and the younger crowd can get interested in who the Q.B.'s are dating. This is the dream matchup for the Supermarket Tabloid crowd and they drive ratings. Football fans will watch regardless and will only marginally tolerate this ####. The only better matchup ratings wise would be if The Cowboys could face a team Q.B'd by Brad Pitt who had temporarily split from Angelina and who had been seen out with Jennifer Anniston and Britney Spears at the same time.

In other words, if this is yet another in the long line of tiresome post by N.E. fans trying to justify their team in the all time pantheon, get over it. The ratings of this game reflect nothing about your team. They will reflect America's sick vacuous media culture.

Five of my worst hangovers have come after SBs. If there's any day to get off of work, it's the day after a 12 hour drinking fest.

That's one of the most ignorant (no offense meant) postings I've seen in a while. The sideshow is a huge production for the organizers and network, but without the game there is no sideshow. Do you really think people tune into the game in record numbers to see Prince at halftime or a funny Bud commercial? The sideshow is exactly that, a sideshow. The game's the draw.
