Does anyone else think Randy Moss's injury.. (1 Viewer)

I keep thinking this whole "Moss isn't practicing" bit was just a ploy by the master of deception, Belichick. Could it be a possibility that he engineered the entire situation so that Moss only practiced during closed practices? And then is planning to utilize him as a surprise attack against the Jets? There were "rumors" that he may even be cut, but he was the greatest receiver in the NFL since Jerry Rice only a couple of years ago. For not practicing, there sure weren't any real telling reports of what was actually wrong with him. Now the week before the season, he is practicing, but his status on the team is very up in the air.

I know it is a little :lmao: , but I just can't shake the thought that Moss comes out the gate with a HUGE game. Something seems fishy in Foxboro.....

No. It isn't worth keeping a player, especially one trying to learn your offense, out of all the preseason games.

If the Patriots need to employ "tricks" to beat the Jets.............then they're in big trouble this season.

I think veterans, especially veterans with a lot of pull just really hate training camp and will do anything to get out of it. He might be tweaked and they don't want to risk anything. I don't really care as I don't have him on any teams and I think hell be hard pressed to get 1000 yds. Maybe 10-12 touchdowns but that's it.

Good luck to you if you drafted Moss.

Yes he was a great player, but he QUIT on his team the last three years. He INTENTIONALLY dropped passes last year.

And he doesn't like to stretch before working out/games.

He may be rejuvenated in NE, but I'd rather have players with less talent and more pride/character/work ethic. At some point, you have to say enough is enough. Best case, I see a few games followed by injury.

Father time catches all, but especially those without discipline and work ethic.

Good for you so pick up Reche Caldwell , he is hard working.

You raise two issues:1. he's a quitter2. he can't stay healthyThis is a Fragile Freddy Taylor mentality. Moss has injury risk and I don't have him on any of my teams (too much risk to draft near his ADP), but his upside is HUGE. "Best case, I see a few games followed by injury"Uhmmm, no, that's not even close to the best case. It may be a worst case, but your comment is foolish.

THE NEWS

Patriots receiver Randy Moss was limited in practice on Thursday, according to the official injury report. His absence was classified as a "team decision."

Our View

That means it was not because of an injury, so assuming Bill Belichick is being straightforward, it appears the team just wanted to give Moss some rest.

I posed that same notion a couple of weeks ago, but didnt get much agreement and frankly didnt expect it. Its not a logical thought really. I think if anything its a combination of much of what youve mentioned...Moss being dinged, him being a veteran with nothing to prove, working all offseason on the O with Brady, and still getting work behind closed doors, and New England's natural tendencies to lean toward secrecy. I dont think for a second its a 'secret weapon' mentality. New England wont need any secret weapons to win that game. Theyll just line up and do it the way they always do. I think its a matter of preserving a very valuable part of their O and ensuring he's as ready as possible once the real games begin. Moss will be ready. He'll probably miss some amount of time during the season. But he'll earn his stripes just like everyone else on that team, and he'll be a good team player. Dont expect anything less despite whatever he's done in the past. But youve got to keep in mind what New England brought him in for. It wasnt to perform week 1. It was to step up in January and February. And however Moss feels or contributes wk 1 in September has little to do with that.

Moss is on his last legs. The guy can't run anymore. They're saving him so he can have the full strength in his legs on goalline jump balls. That's about the only thing he's gonna be good for now IMO. And with Brady QBing, he may elect to just find the open guy rather than even attempt a jump ball with Moss.

My favorite mis-information in this thread thus far:

1. N.E. does not need any secret weapon or gameplan.

2. Father Time is calling Randy Moss

It is as if everyone forgot BB was the head coach and that there have no uber-successfull 30+ old WR's.

Didn't the Jets beat the Patriots last year?

How much of a secret weapon did New England need to drop the hammer on those Panthers a couple of weeks ago on the road?

They split. word to the wise. play ANY wr lined up opposite David Barrett. Randy Moss on one leg could burn him.

Moss is playing today, and I think he'll be huge. He may be matched up on a rookie corner. If that happens, look for some fireworks.

90% chance that Moss will bust. You can't fix stupid. The guy is not a team player and as soon as he starts being a ####head in the locker room, he'll be out of favor.

The Pats are not afraid to go it without top WR talent (Branch). I expect Stallworth to have a big season and the rest of the balls to be split across the board. I wouldn't be surprised if Moss had a couple nice games at the onset before the strange mix of chemicals in his head caused him to do something stupid.

10% chance the stars align and he puts together a huge season.

I think 90% is a little too pessimistic. He's in New England now. This team has a chance to win a title this year. I dont care how much of a knucklehead he's been in the past....he may be crazy, but he's not stupid. Some injuries may slow him down during the course of the season, but I think the effort will be there, and Brady will help assure that will happen. At worst, Id go 50/50 with it, but I fully expect he'll fall in line for a shot at a ring.

Moss haters beware. The Patriots will not spoil their team by keeping a malcontent. Randy turned 31 this year...far from old as a WR. He has not shown an injury proneness that is worse than the average player at his position with his body of work. Tom Brady is a general who will find a way to keep Moss happy and productive. All of this Moss bashing in consideration of where is now seems off the mark.

It was time to sell on Randy Moss the player when he got caught from behind by a safety when he was an Oakland Raider. Speed was half of his game and he lost it. Now he's only got jumping. Brady doesn't huck em up to jumpers, he finds the open man. Randy Moss is probably going to wind up the biggest bust based on his draft position at WR this year. Name value alone and "NE is good" got him drafted that high.

Great so you wont take him , your right he lost his speed over the Summer two years ago.He did nt have the will to succeed in a worthless Oakland Raiders organization ( It s totally normal all you have in Oaklnd are rejects from other teams ) .With Belichick and the Pats , 1200 receiving yards - 13 Tds .

I think Moss read your post before the game and is sending you a message.Anyone else think Moss is a bust.

Could be. We'll see after the season. He didn't do anything unexpected today from my perspective. No discredit to Moss who beat the entire secondary, but that TD pass from Brady was absolutely perfect. Didn't even hear the announcers mention how perfect the pass was...they just expect it from Brady now.

Give me a break! You expected the guy to have NINE catches for 183yds??? Get outta here with that. That 90%bust statement was ridiculous and you know it.

Sorry, I overlooked the part about you expecting a 'couple of nice games'. I was too busy focusing on the 90% and BUST part of that read. Good call. It was definitely a nice game, and Im sure when he busts we'll hear all about it.

No, it was not a ploy. It was a minor injury that everyone blew way out of proportion because they have nothing better to do.
