Does Tom Brady deserve to be in the HOF? (1 Viewer)

He's one of the greatest QBs of all time but this suspension proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is a cheater. The HOF should be reserved for those who had respect for the game and played it within the confines of the rulebook. IMO cheaters should not have a bust in Canton.

Your thoughts?

I think you have confused the underlined standard with the concept of "circumstantial evidence".

During his induction speech someone is going to throw a deflated football at him, right?

I would expect the same range of voter reactions towards Brady (maybe) cheating as towards Ray Lewis (maybe) murdering people, Big Ben (maybe) raping people, etc. Some don't care, some don't see it as relevant to his body of work, some see it as a major black mark.

I don't care who is or isn't a "Hall of Famer." There isn't any nice way for the history books to spin the reigning SB MVP getting suspended for (maybe) cheating, though.

One of these things is not like the other. One effected the actual games.

If these are your standards, you could probably get rid of many of the guys there. Did you ever see Butkus or Joe Greene play?

You seem to be confused by the concept that circumstantial evidence can prove something beyond reasonable doubt.

But yeah, the "shadow of a doubt" comment is nonsense.

Brady is a hall of fame qb, still the best qb in the game. He got caught and couldn't refute the evidence they had, which seems to have been enough for this disciplinary action. That's all.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome Charlie Hustle to the footballguys message boards! Don't worry, Pete, it sounds like MLB is softening their stance on you now that they're having to deal with the Barry Bonds stuff.

Makes you wonder what he and the Pats have done that has never come to light. I'm sure this is the tip of the iceberg.

Right now I'd say no. He still has a few years to earn it though, but he has to win 1-2 Super Bowls without cheating to have a chance in my book.

Yes.

It isn't the hall of nice guys. He cheated in a game, because the way the NFL handles footballs during games allows it to easily happen. Brady ain't the only one to do it, I would bet anything.

This seems unlikely, and is not the NFL's argument. It's just the fact that he was suspended for cheating--whether anyone agrees with that decision--it is part of his career now. A mostly great career. During which he was suspended for cheating.

His numbers should be good enough to overcome the cheating. Probably a second year vote would be fitting.

He will make the hall, but he is now in the Gaylord Perry category. Solid player whose rep was tarnished because he was a cheater.

Of course he does. Cheating a little bit doesn't change the fact they won 4 SB's. There are all kinds of cheaters in the HOF, Brady is just one more.

Was jerry rice caught cheating a suspended for it?
Nope just admitted to doing it while he was playing.
Alas, this is all the difference in the world. Always has been, in every walk of life.

Lie, cheat, steal, and get away with it, you get to write a bestseller, pass your fortune on to your family, get a library wing or an airport named after you, or enter the Hall of Fame. Do it and get caught, you get shot, go to jail, lose your fame, fortune and dignity, or just retire in shame and irrelevance.

Tom's no longer got any more business in discussion of all-time greats than the Pats do as a team, and all that really matters is that no serious sports fan holds either in that elite company any more. Sports are nothing but entertainment, and entertainment's nothing but majority opinion. When nobody thinks you really won any more, it doesn't matter if you did.

We joke about the asterisks, but in reality, nobody needs to mention those any more with the Brady era Pats than they're needed with Barry Bonds. You want to be in company with the Jerry Rices and Pittsburgh Steelers of the world, you need to be better at what you do, even the under the table stuff. Sorry, it's just the way it is. GG, Pats. Better luck next gen.

They don't have to believe it, but they will have plenty of opportunity to see it and be reminded - every year.

The football version of Barry Bonds. Would've been a HoFer even without cheating, but the obsession with success led them down the wrong path. They got the success they were after, but with their character forever in question.

Hof or not your worth in sports is how you are viewed by the public fan base. Maybe this will all be forgotten. Maybe it won't. Maybe this will stick with him and he will always be viewed as a cheater.

best QB to ever play the game factoring in stats, rings, AFC Championships, games won

best

ever

or at least I think its more probable than not
