Does your commish notify teams if they have an illegal starting lineup (1 Viewer)

Rounders

In my league the commish has decided to send emails to those teams that have an illegal starting lineups this week due to players on bye weeks. This is the first time this year that teams have had lineups set illegally this close to waivers closing. The commish's reasoning is that with tight division races and only 4 regular season games everyone should be putting their best teams out there. He told me today that he's not going to make any changes to teams but he simply dropped the owners an email letting them know that they had an illegal lineup because a player who is on bye is in their starting lineup. He reminded them that waivers closes tonight at kickoff. He did this for all teams including the one that he's playing this week.

Is the commish right or wrong for doing this?

PS-This is a friendly, semi-high stakes league ($200 entry fee), if that matters. The owners have all known each other for 15+ years.

Yes, I notify ALL teams when they have illegal lineups, and I even take the step of trying to insert a competitive lineup for said teams on Sunday morning if the lineup is still illegal.

My situation is a dynasty league so it is slightly different, bu the process is done equally and fairly.

I commission two leagues...I do not send out notices of illegal lineups...as an owner, you are responsible for your team...not the commissioner.

My commish does it. Ours is a similar league to yours. I don't mind it, but I don't think he really needs to. I mean if you don't care enough to pay attention, then why should someone else do it for you? But like your commish, his reasoning is that in a tight race, someone ends up getting a free pass if the team they're playing doesn't at least put out a legal lineup. Like I said I don't mind, but I'm not the guy who who would need a friendly email reminder.

MFL doesn't allow it under my rules. I won't change their lineup if guys are on bye because it's unfair for other teams if they face that opponent and I go in and set active players. If it happens more than 2 times, like it has this year, the guy is not invited back next year.

I strongly disagree with this action as a commish. It is not your job to input lineups for other teams when they are in error. Sending out an email or posting on the message boards letting them know is one thing, to be messing with their lineup is a whole other issue.

IMHO, If he hasn't done it all year, shouldn't start now? I would be curious if any of his division contenders are facing an Illegal Lineup?

This matters to me. If this is a highly competitive league, then owners who dont submit line-ups simply shouldn't be in it. I wouldnt notify them or have them in the league next year.If this is a friendly league where relationships are above competition, then I am afraid anything goes. By the nature of the league, you accept that whatever happens the priority is that you all remain buddies or maintain your relationships and that competition, while important, isnt an overriding priority. In that case, I think this is reasonable. The implication here is that no one would complain ever if the commish didn't notify them when they were starting a player on a bye.The fact that you are questioning whether this is appropriate tells me that you take the competition aspect of this league more seriously than the others. If so, you gotta decide if the friendships you've developed with the folks are worth the occassional lapse in how a league should be run, or not.

Its up to him.

Dont care if he does or he doesnt. Dont care if he just does it for some.

No rule against talking to anyone. ftr-he ypicallyt doesnt.

All he did is send an email to everyone. Anyone in the league could do the same.

And since this is the first week with a Thursday Kickoff seems more than okay to me. Now if he took it upon himself to change peoples lineup, I'd have a problem, but a simple FYI. No problem with that.

+1. I'm all for notifying an owner his lineup is illegal, but manipulating a starting squad? Sometimes you just need to let stupidity take it's course.

I brought that point up to him and he response was, this is due to the Thursday games and the short weeks. I also made it a point to ask him if he would change lineups and he said, "absolutely not, that's not my role. my role is to make sure that teams are not submitting an illegal lineup."I don't think that the commish had any wrong intent here, I just wanted to see if other leagues did stuff similar. Knowing the group of guys in the league, many are busy people with work, family, etc and this could have actually slipped their minds. A reminder is not a terrible thing here.

we have bye week fines in our dynasty league and you do it three different weeks in the season and you move to the end of the first round automatically.

no problem with the commish sending out emails, but he should have been doing it all year, not starting week 10...

All those saying that if the commish didn't do it all year, he shouldn't now. I disagree. As was mentioned here, this is the first Thursday night game. I think its fine to do it since owners may be taken off guard a bit. I did special notices during the hurricane post-poned game as well.Altering a guys lineup without him giving you direction, thats a little shadey. Better to leave your hands out of that one.
