Does your league use bonus points... (1 Viewer)

What is the consensus around here with respect to awarding, say 5 bonus points, to a team whose RB rushes for 175 yards or QB throws for 350? Some argue that the team is already rewarded because their player has achieved those hurdles, while others say that a bonus is warranted because it rewards a fairly rare accomplishment.

Thoughts? You like bonuses in your league, or no like?

I've never been a big fan of those types of bonuses, or PPR. I think straight yardage and TD's are enough. Add too much scoring and you get your 121-105 type games, not a fan.

One of my leagues is giving a 6 pt bonus this year for 350 passing yds, 200 rushing yds, or 150 recieving yds.

I did some research on this as compared to a more standard 300/100/100 bonus set-up. There are much, much fewer bonuses in our current system (overall I think it was about 20% of 300/100/100 performances make it to 350/200/150 performance)

I play in a Threshold League. Points are awarded ONLY for achieving certain minimums not for straight yardage.

No 1 point for every 10 yards. Rushers and Receivers get 3 points at 75 yards and 2 points for every 25 yds...QBs start to accum points at 250 yds.

WRs also get 3 points for an 8 catch minimum and 2 pts for every 3 thereafter.

My local league gives 3 point bonus for 100 rushing or receiving yards, 300 passing yards, and 8 or more catches. 5 point bonus for 200 rush or rec. yards and 400 passing yards. But scoring is 1/50 passing and 1/20 rush or receive. So 99 yards rushing gets you 4 points, and 100 gets you 8. 299 passing yards is 5, 300 is 9. IDP league. We use USA Today paper as our official scoring.

All rushing or receiving yards over 100 gets two points per ten yards instead of one. Passing yards over 300 also gets two points per 25 yds. instead of one.

We're leaning towards doing away with the bonuses in our league -- mainly because it gives even more points to the teams that drafted 1st, 2nd, 3rd (redraft) -- because those top RBs are more likely to rush for 175 or 200 yards than RBs taken after them. So skewing the scoring towards those teams that landed the top few picks would give them more of an advantage (in addition to having LT, LJ, or SA).

What the heck is the matter with a 121-105 game?? Are those numbrs too high for you comprehension? That has to be THE worst basis for not liking those rules.

QB: 3 pts > 300 yds, 10 pts > 400 yds (passing)

RB: 3 pts > 100 yds, 10 pts > 200 yds (rushing)

WR/TE: 3 pts > 100 yds, 10 pts > 200 yds (receiving)

ill be in over 10 leagues and dont join leagues with bonus points for certain yards or yardage scores . dont like myself .

I play in leagues that have no bonuses and leagues that give five points for breaking 100 rushing, 100 receiving, or 300 passing. Five points is a lot. It basically accounts for a TD. I feel it's way too much. It also puts too much seperation between LJ, LT, and the rest of the running backs. I am trying to pitch it to my leagues to do away with bonuses. I am met with the argument that owners like the "excitement" of watching their players approach the bonus. I just don't see why 99 yards ends up being 6 points less than 100 yards. It can be exciting or frustrating depending which end you're faced with, but I like a true measure of performance.

Perhaps in your mind. Why not add 10 points for a 100 yard rushing game and 10 points for a 300 yard passing game. Lets add another 25 points to DEF for a shutout and make games 197-174. There's nothing wrong with a high scoring game - but only if your guys go nuts, not because you've enhanced your scoring system to the point where every game is like that IMO.
