Dolphins land the Big Tuna (1 Viewer)

Per Mort on ESPN.

Parcells would be in the football operations role...not head coach. Same deal that was rumored in Atlanta and is now dead. Parcells already owns a home in South Florida and Huizenga has deep pockets. Everyone knows they need to do something to turn that organization around. I can hear the Parcells/Belichick are in the same division stories already...

Edit to change title: It's ***official***. With Parcells that is important. :goodposting:

Holy Cow, how many times can the Falcons (and Blank in particular) get kicked in the teeth?

I feel for ya Falcons fans... Been there.

Let's see. Move to Atlanta or move to Miami? Move to Atlanta or Miami? Hmmm. Atlanta or Miami? Hmm if I move to Miami I can own a yacht. I can lay on the beach and watch all the fine ladies walk by. I can have a beach house. I can watch all the fine ladies walk on my beach house. I can watch all the fine ladies party on my yacht.

Hmmm.

Atlanta or Miami. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Maybe a South Beach kinda guy too.

The first moves need to be Randy Mueller and Dom Capers out.
On June 6, 2005 Mueller was hired as the general manager for the Miami Dolphins. Unlike many NFL general managers however, Mueller did not have decision-making power when it came to player personnel. Then head coach Nick Saban had the final say on all roster moves.

Upon Saban's departure in January of 2007, Mueller was given more authority within the organization. He was also heavily involved in the team's search for its next head coach, which would eventually become San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron.
Mueller has done very well in the past and he's only had a year of decision-making. I didn't like the Ginn pick, but he's turning out to look like a good WR and while the jury is still out on Beck, he could develop into a decent QB.

Correct me if I'm wrong. The Dolphins don't have a VP of Football Operations. As such, I would think Parcells would want to make the decisions about the team that Meuller is currently making, to include players drafted, head coach, etc.

Doesn't matter what kind of guy he is. If there is $$ there will be chicks. =)

Not sure how this helps, but Parcells is the man when it comes to taking crappy teams and at least getting them back to .500. We kind of need that now.

Aren't the Dolphins for sale?

For what it's worth, I think one of the reasons James Orthwein hired Parcells in New England was to increase the perceived value of the franchise if ended up having to sell (which he, thankfully, did). Ironically, as much as having Parcells might have been a plus to Robert Kraft as a buyer, it turned out to not be one so much once Kraft was the owner and their relationship went south pretty fast, culminating in Parcells leaving amidst his "groceries" comment.

Parcells was also in NY when the Hess family sold the team to Robert Johnson.fwiw

Impossible to know how much influence he had over the Saban draft, but that was awful. as for the most recent one, I believe Ginn will be a decent receiver and Beck you can't tell much yet (so far not good, but...) and finally the Satele pick was great. Booker appears to be a dog so unless Beck becomes an average NFL QB, the small track record appears mediocre. lets also not forget the trade for Culpepper.

gotta thing Cameron and the most of the coaching staff gets the axe if this happens, right?

what head coach might he go after?

According to a Dolphin beat writer's blog, this might not be the case:
It does not mean that Cam Cameron and Randy Mueller are necessarily gone. Parcells has a positive opinion of Cameron, and they have a mutual friend in Bobby Knight. Forget what you may have heard: in reality, Parcells is more calculating than impulsive. My guess is that he would leave Cameron in place for at least the start of next season. As for Mueller, he would lose some of his personnel control with Parcells' arrival. I don't know much about their relationship, but Parcells might want to keep Mueller and most of his scouts in place, at least for now. Mueller signed a contract extension before this season, but that shouldn't affect much.

Fixed
Now Hueizenga becomes ebullient again.
Because he can sell the team for more $$$$? Was reprted (by CNBC) to have been negotiating as recently as a week ago.(sorry - don't remember the names, but they did give specifics - not just "rumor is")
I hear Michael Dell is looking into buying the Dolphins. This is just a rumor I got from one of my buddies that works at Dell. Apparently an email went around and picked up steam. No idea if this scenario has been mentioned before. Dolphin football is low on the radar for me.

Basically, Wayne is looking to sell a portion of the team, with the option of seling the rest in a few years. The group is headed by a real estate guy, but Dell is involved as one of his "investors"

Ahhh, I see. Thanks for the clarification.

Mort reported earlier this evening that Huzienga reportedly told Parcell's that he's not selling the team afterall. This is what enticed Parcell's to then reconsider joining the Phins organization. Apparently, Huzi and Parcells have been talking for a couple weeks and the "sell of the team" was scaring Parcells off. I'm paraphrasing what Mort reported. Sorry I don't have a link.

FINS SNARE TUNA

It's official. Veteran coach Bill Parcells has joined the Miami Dolphins on the same day that he handed Falcons owner Arthur Blank the latest setback in arguably the worst month that any NFL franchise has ever experienced.

Parcells has inked a four-year deal, and regardless of his title he'll be in charge of the football operations.

The futures of G.M. Randy Mueller and coach Cam Cameron are currently unknown. Our guess is that both will be fired, and that Parcells will hire his own G.M., and Parcells and his G.M. will hire their own coach.

It also remains to be seen whether the arrival of Parcells gives the team a late-season foot in the fanny. With a chance to derail the Pats' perfect season only days away, a rejuvenated locker room could surprise one of the various teams for whom Parcells previously worked.

'We're going to have a new daddy,'' offensive tackle L.J. Shelton said.OSTED 9:30

Parcells has a history of using teams to get better deals. He has done it to the Bucs twice and with this last one with the Falcons, he has used Atlanta twice. He might do well in Miami, I for one will be rooting against him.

the miami dolphins grabbing the brainchild of the dallas cowboys to turn their franchise around? i've seen this rodeo before.

this has bad news written all over it. bringing in a HOF head coach to run your football operations. enjoy a string of emascualted puppets as head coaches.

pollardsvision is right. What exactly will Bill be doing? Calling all the shots for the GM? Having the coach blamed for when they don't win?

Or maybe, Parcells will draft Julius Jones ahead of Steven Jackson again.

Peter King said that Maurice Carthon would likely be among those Parcells considers bringing to coach.
I could see that. I could also see Parcells sticking it to Dallas and snagging Jason Garrett. However, it makes sense for Parcells to bring in his GM or co-talent evaluator to work alongside him before making any head coaching decisions. The first two names out there are Green Bay personnel man John Schneider and Dallas vice president of scouting Jeff Ireland.

Not for nearly 10 years now.

Did the Falcons not let a guys goat into the game or trade away an all-time legend for nothing? How the heck did they get so cursed?

Rich McKay is a sucker. Parcells burned him at least once in Tampa Bay and now again in Atlanta...McKay can draft but he cannot seem to get a grip on Parcells using him like a red headed stepchild.
