Dominic Rhodes - Signed by Colts (1 Viewer)

Dominic Rhodes, RB, Buffalo Bills Tuesday 12/7, 12:34 PM CT

While no move has been confirmed by the club, Phillip Wilson of the Indianapolis Star is hearing that the Colts have signed Dominic Rhodes.

Our View: Rhodes returning to Indianapolis isn't good news for owners of Joseph Addai (shoulder) or Donald Brown (ankle) who were hoping that either back would be ready to go on Thursday night. Given that they're working with a short week, it isn't a surprise that the Colts added Rhodes, who has plenty of experience in their offensive scheme.

I would guess Rhodes is GL short yardage back and maybe a guy they put in IF Manning is getting hit too much but that they'd wait til that happened.

James has been very good at the GL, hard to figure Rhodes to replace him in that role. Sounds to me like Addai, Hart and Brown don't look good for next week.

Phillip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star expects Donald Brown (ankle) to start against the Titans Thursday night.

Brown was listed on Monday's injury report as a would-be non-participant, but he was able return to action on Tuesday. Wilson has Javarris James second in the pecking order and Dominic Rhodes third as a possible kickoff returner. James remains the favorite for goal-line work. If Brown does start, Rhodes isn't a good bet to carry the ball at all. Mike Hart (ankle) isn't expected to play in Week 14.

Brown may, indeed, start. I want to see him finish though. Is he going to get in there, get 3 or 4 carries and re-tweak the ankle and wind up on the pine again? Won't surprise me at all, at this stage.

As crazy as it may be, Rhodes is actually semi-wooing me with his siren's song from the waiver wire in a couple extremely deep leagues. Titans/Jags/Raiders on his docket...not exactly world beaters vs. running backs there and he's a Brown injury away(which is seems more likely than unlikely lately) from getting a share of meaningful touches. Could be worse guys to slug at the end of a bench to see what shakes out over the next week or so.

If Brown makes it through this week in one piece, or Hart returns for week 15, then jettison his #### back to the pool.

I think he was signed for insurance. Brown is just coming back from injury, and is a little iffy. If he re-injures, and something happens to James, they are SOL.

I don't think Rhodes is going to do much unless those things happen. We don't know what shape he's in, but it probably isn't tip top NFL shape. But he can block, and protect Manning.
