Don Shula says the Patriots should be hit with an asterisk (1 Viewer)

If they 72 Dolphins played a 32 game schedule, they would have gone 32-0If the 72 Dolphins suited up tomorrow, they would go 16-0 in the regular season this year.stop the hate y'all haters, gll peas!!
as long as they didn;t have to play any playoff quality teams or teams with winning records all year long
As I pointed out before, based on size and speed alone of todays players, there is every reason to believe that the 2007 Dolphins would easily defeat the 1972 Dolphins. That 72 team never faced a player with as much quickness as Jason Taylor, for one example. The current Dolphin team is bigger and faster at every starting position. Heck, I'm not even at all sure the 72 Dolphins defeat this year's LSU tigers half the time. People don't have any idea of the difference in today's football players, but if you want to know, just look at these two stats: size differential and 4-40 times. It's a completely different ballgame.(And of course, none of this takes into account the complexities of the spread offense, the 3-4, etc. In fact the more I think about it, the 07 Dolphins just beat the crap out of the 72 team. And I'd love to see it!)
Your post makes it quite clear you are either 12 years old being born in Orlando or incompetant beyond belief. You know they went undefeated right? UNDEFEATED B-A-B-Y!!!glll peas

Who has a chance to really win the Super Bowl this year other than New England or Indianapolis? Seriously...
That is an excellent question. At this juncture, the only "real" contenders are the Patriots, Colts, and maybe the Steelers. I do not consider any NFC team to be a real contender at this point, especially since the team most consider the best in that conference lost by 21 at home to New England. There isn't one NFC team that would be considered a real contender if they played in the AFC.

The 1969 Texas Longhorns went undefeated, too and won the National championship. If they were playing today, they would be rolled by most division 1 teams.More so than any other sport, football has evolved over the last 35 years. Scheme is part of it, but the size, speed, and skill of today's athlete is the most important part. Now I don't have the stat sheet on that 72 Dolphin team in front of me, but I'm willing to guess they don't have very many linemen on either side of the ball over three hundred pounds (if I'm wrong about this, someone who knows can please correct me.) So the trenches battle alone would be a tremendous advantage for any of today's teams. How is that an incompetent argument?

Or here's another difference: nearly every cornerback who comes into the NFL today runs a 4-3 40 or close to it. As the combines demonstrate, every team is loaded with speedsters who never even see the field. In terms of the 07 Dolphins vs the 72 Dolphins, I am willing to bet that today's team is faster at ALL skill positions, by a significant margin. So, you have one team that was superb against their peers and did not lose a game. Then you have another team that is awful against their peers, but is bigger, stronger, and faster than the first team, all by quantifiable numbers. You have to go with 07.

Just heard an interesting thing on the radio (Boomer/Carton)...apparently Steve Somers a radio personality on WFAN in NY pointed out that Shula was apparently involved in a large tampering case in which I guess there were fines, etc. when he moved from the Colts coach to the Fins. Just kind of ironic that the guy wanting an asterisk for cheating was involved in a "rule breaking/cheating" scandal of his own. Funny....
