There are some states with laws allowing oil companies to use eminent domain to take private property for use in oil pipelines, aren't there? Not a government taking the land, but a private company taking private land.

[SIZE=medium]I have a conspiracy theory that I’ve thought about a lot this week and I thought I would post it here on the really small chance it ends up being true… so I have some proof I thought of it first. I can’t honestly say I believe it’s true, but I enjoy theorizing potential conspiracy theories... and this one all points to Magic Johnson.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=medium]So basically, Magic Johnson is living his life, being a commentator on TV, making some good jack, life is good. But he is just missing that ‘something’. He has plowed so many wimmens that more wimmens doesn’t really do much for him. He has $ so more $ doesn’t do much either. He talks about basketball on TV, but there is no real ‘power’ with this job. He misses the power. He misses being the alpha dog he is.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=medium]He sees Michael Jordan as head of the Bobcats. He sees Phil Jackson as head of the Knicks. They are calling shots, and making decisions. Magic is… commentating. As he sees these men in powerful positions, he is also witnessing the demise of HIS Lakers team.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=medium]The Lakers are becoming a laughing stock. Magic has commented on this many times. It has to really hurt him. He can’t stand watching the Buss relative currently in charge ruining the team. He doesn’t like the coach selection. He doesn’t like the free agency moves. He doesn’t like anything about anything happening with the Lakers right now. He wants to get involved, and fix the situation, and he feels he knows how… but he can’t. He can’t work for that Buss guy because he hates him. So what is he going to do???[/SIZE]
[SIZE=medium]Magic starts thinking… I would love to teach that Buss character a thing or two about basketball. Man, it would be great if I got the other LA team and taught him how it was done. I can’t have the Lakers because they will be tied up by the Buss family for who knows how long. What if I could somehow buy the Clippers and show everyone how dumb the Lakers and the Buss family are in their own backyard. Maybe I could even get Kobe! But how could I get the Clippers to sell?[/SIZE]

He even poses for pictures with her so she can post them on her Instagram account because both of them know it will infuriate him and provide the evidence needed. V agrees to do it because she already milked the old man for a condo and multiple expensive cars and toys. She is bored. The gold digger got the gold, now she want’s fame. Magic gives her pictures of the two of them together which provides celebrity status… and the recording provides her with a story that leads TMZ. This is a Kardashian wanna be dream package.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=medium]The thing that made me think of it is the fact that Magic was in the picture with V, which caused the recorded fight and racist comments… and I swear it seemed like he was in the ear of the press about wanting to buy the Clippers less than 24 hours after the story broke. It just seemed orchestrated. Not to mention, various other TV sports and entertainment people kind of jumped on that idea of how Magic would be great as an owner.[/SIZE]

I don't know if there is any way around that he is racist. I think his past court cases show a pattern of racism. I feel like the recorded comments, if you listened to them in a vacuum, may not prove that he is racist. The comments from the recording sound like an old white guy that doesn't want his mistress flaunting her stuff around with alpha males. But combined with the comments from the Korean apartment complex case, and the Elgin Baylor case... I don't think you could say he is NOT racist. There is a pattern there.

What if he just didn't understand what Instagram is and this was all a big misunderstanding?
In the case of Bundy, in 1993 the government took public lands and re-allocated them as less cattle, more tortoises
in the case of Keystone the govt has to apply eminent domain to re-allocate private lands for oil transport
On the one hand, taking private land is is more of an imposition. On the other hand, in that case, at least the person being imposed upon is compensated. In the other case, people are forced out of business and their property values are affected, but since nobody is physically yaking property from them, they are SOL.
The second piece is the implied hypocrisy. The key difference here is what they would consider "the public good." In genera, somebody might be inclined to believe that more oil being transported is an overall public good and maybe not feel that saving a tortoise by driving people out is less of a public good. Add in the fact that other types of business have been allowed to utilize the same tortoise lands...It may be hypocritical to the purity of the "land rights" concept, but what folks are really doing is performing a calculation on "public good." What they consider to be the public good will be informed by there position on other issues.

I know... that's why I chose the word 'flaunt'. In an odd way it seems like he is ok with her actually doing stuff with Magic or Kemp, as long as she doesn't flaunt it on Instagram, or show it in public. He seems like a guy that knows she is going to get around and just doesn't want her to embarass him about it publicly. But the whole recording is full of odd contradictions which is why I don't think you can conclude a whole lot from it. It's kind of all over the place... and is full of her constantly throwing out stinky bait.

A judge in Washington, D.C., last year agreed with Alaska Native tribes, supported by nonprofit law firms, which sued in federal court saying the Interior Department should have been taking land into trust years ago.

I'm not sure what you are getting at. But this is a request by Alaska Tribal Communities to the Federal Government, asking the Feds to take land into trust, on behalf of the Tribes. The tribes are still the beneficial owners, and have (theoretical) sovereign authority over them. The lands would just be held in trust by the Gov't. At the request of the tribes.
So what's this about a land grab?
