"Don't sit your studs" (1 Viewer)

On offense, there are a handful of players, maybe 5-10 for each position, that you simply never bench regardless of matchup if they're healthy and starting for their NFL team.

My impression is that there are certainly studs like that among IDP's, but that proportionally that isn't as much the case as it is for them as it is for offensive players.

List the non-benchable studs for each of the following positions:

DE

DT

LB

CB

S

I'm particularly curious about some of the more peripheral positions, like CB. What got me thinking about it was that Rashean Mathis on my team, one of the more consistently good IDP producers at CB, has a mediocre matchup this week. I automatically started him, but then got to thinking . . .

lb - urlacher

lb- pierce

db - gibril wilson

16 team league, these guys start if they are healthy, no matter what.

these are the guys I make decisions on every week

dl -c.grant

dl - B. thomas

lb - tatupu

lb - vilma (last year was a must start)

cb - boulware

cb - m. huff

cb - d. Manning

My list (in no particular order) - I'll refine as I go because I'm doing this for the first time:

DE: Peppers; Taylor; Strahan; Freeney(?);

DT: K. Williams;

LB: Pierce; Fletcher(-Baker WTF?); Urlacher; R. Lewis; A. Thomas; Bulluck; D. Ryans(?); Tatupu; Briggs; Z. Thomas; D. Edwards; D. Morgan; D. Brooks; Brackett(?); Merriman(?); Vilma(?);

CB: R. Barber; Bailey; Mathis(?); A. Winfield(?);

S: M. Williams; A. Wilson; Polamalu; Rhodes(?); Schweigert(?); R. Harrison(?); Milloy(?);

Note: I'm not just taking the top 10 at each position or something. I'm using a combination of overall scoring rank; consistency over time (usually years); and how good they are on a per-game basis (e.g. Dan Morgan). The use of all of these criteria really reduces the size of the population at each position.

Always play the matchups with IDP. Studs will be studs, but even they can be offset by certain offensive schemes (and no-names turned into stars for the week).

That being said, Adrian Wilson is a no-brainer for me every week. I don't own them, but DeMeco Ryans and London Fletcher are probably there also because of their consistency.

Scott Shanle :D (5+ solo tackles or a sack in all but one game this year, week 1)

LB - Wil Witherspoon, Gerald Hayes

DL - Justin Smith, Trent Cole

DB - Roy Williams

This is not a complete list, just my every week starters. I would think Witherspoon would be a must start in most leagues for sure.

Play 6 LBs; I always play Bulluck, Trotter, Fletcher, J Peterson (earned his spot after M Peterson went down), A Thomas (should be in for a big day w/ no Lewis), and then been shuffling between A Davis, Crowder and Dansby for the last spot..

2 DBs are Dawkins and M Williams (ww pick up 2 weeks ago :lmao: )

My automatic starters, just off my team:

DT: KWill

LB: Thomas Howard (I know, surprising, but he is consistent), D. Morgan, Vilma

CB: Dunta Robinson

S: Schweigert, Polomalu, MWilliams (nickel D)

I sat Hawk.  Fletcher, Julian Peterson, T Davis, K Mitchell. Fletcher's the only stud.

I'm really focused on making more of a comprehensive list, not one that's just focused on your (or my) individual teams.

So, to rephrase the question, who are the IDP's who are must-start studs, regardless of the fantasy team they're on, the matchup, or anything else you can think of aside from health?

Roy Williams used to be a stud IMO but has fallen of the map. 1 PD so far against Ariz.

For me, I like to own and start LB's exclusively (my FF site allows this. And, I am required to start three IDP). So, I will focus on the stud LB's this season, and over the last few seasons, that I would start week in and week out...regardless of the match up:

1) Urlacher

2) Bulluck

3) Ray Lewis

4) D. Edwards

5) L. Fletcher

And, Z. Thomas, A. Thomas, J. Peterson, Vilma, Witherspoon and Farrior would all be a strong considerations, unless I had three better options.

DL: Peppers, Taylor, Kampman, Allen, Mathis + Abraham and Umenyiora when healthy.

LB: Fletcher-Baker, Lewis, Witherspoon, Tatupu, Ryans, Bulluck, Edwards, Thomas, Pierce, Urlacher - on the fence about Briggs, June, Farrior, Morrison, Crowell, Peterson, Scott, Thomas. Very soon we could be adding Brandon Moore and A.J. Hawk to this list.

DB: Barber, Bailey, AdWilson, Polamalu, Rhodes, Hope - on the fence about SJones, GWilson, MWilliams, Hamlin

I have my starters for each position, unless injury or a bye I rarely stray off from it. This week was one of those rare instances when I did, I sat Crowell. :wall: I'll still win, but been doing this long enough I should know better, but sometimes I get suckered into a matchup. I beleive in breaking down your team / figuring out who your team's studs are / and start 'em ... forget the matchups. Matchups are such a hit and miss, even the FBG's have only a slightly better than a 50% hit rate using the entire league and these guys are some of the best in da bidness.

At this point of the season, teams should have a good feel on who their best players are at each position. Nowadays you have the luxury of clicking on a top players report, this should pretty much tell ya all you need to know, not only your team's studs, but IDP studs league wide. Leagues score differently, so IDP studs can vary.

Hmm, awesome. My starters in my dynasty league: Kampman, Allen, Ryans, Pierce, Briggs, Morrison, Rhodes, MWilliams. Sorry, gotta brag sometimes.
