Don't sleep on Donte Moncrief: Draft Day steal (3 Viewers)

Ugh...probably just cost me my spot in the Super Bowl....zilch??
Me too. After the Julio news it was either Moncrief or Douglas. My opponent has Luck so I chose Moncreif....ahh! Luck kept feeding Wayne and Nicks when I was watching.

Too bad the TD he had was called back on a penalty.
I don't understand giving the nod to DM when HD always plays well when in for JJ and had a better matchup. DM gets so few targets. Who cares if Luck was the opponent's QB -- I don't like the offset theory unless it's a very high volume WR likely to wrap up a huge amount of the passing game. DM is hardly that.
Well, with DM I was favored by 20 points to win. However, a few of my studs have under-performed and now I am in a dog fight. It is dead even by projections....so there is still a chance.
What? You made this decision based on projections? You know those are bull####, right?

Yes, I know...I use them for what they are. I ran the scenario by Bloom ....his thoughts too. It's no biggie to me. My team still has a chance.

Rotoworld:

Donte Moncrief out-snapped Hakeem Nicks 36-22 in the Week 15 win over the Texans.

It represented a dip from Week 14, however, when Moncrief out-snapped Nicks 50-18. Moncrief was targeted just three times against Houston, failing to reel in any of the passes and posting a goose egg. There are simply too many mouths to feed in the Colts' offense. The only way Moncrief's targets will rise is if an injury occurs. And that may have happened Sunday with T.Y. Hilton tweaking his hamstring late. He's going for an MRI on Monday. If Hilton is forced to miss time, Moncrief would seem to be the biggest beneficiary for Week 16.

Anyone starting Moncrief this week? Sounds like Wayne will be on a snap count and who knows what TYs status will be. I may have to play him either way but it would help if one of the starters sat big-time. Should be a shoot out

I own Julio and Keenan....this must be the fantasy gods way of throwing me a bone. If TY doesn't play, Moncrief could be a great play. I think I'd probably start him for the upside I'll need in my championship game. Good luck!

If TY and Wayne play, I don't see how you can start Moncrief with any confidence whatsoever, considering the donut job last week.

The NFL really isn't loaded with 220 pound WRs who can run 4.40 and jump out of the gym. There are lots of "good" athletes, but that's another level and those guys don't grow on trees. There's almost nobody out there who combines the speed and the size of Moncrief, so he's in rare company.

I don't think Moncrief is one of the best WRs in this class in terms of intangibles and WR skills. He drops too many balls, isn't particularly elusive, and just doesn't seem to have the "it" factor for working in tight spaces and making things happen. However, he's not as bad as people make him out to be. People talk about him like he's some total workout warrior with zero football skills. I don't think that's very accurate. He wasn't a dominant player in college, but he wasn't bad either. 900+ yards each of his final two seasons in something like 13 games. While he isn't consistent, he has at least flashed the ability to do a lot of the "skill" things that a WR needs to do. I've seen him make leaping catches over defenders, catch the ball away from his frame, run crisp routes to get separation, and contort his body to catch poorly thrown balls. He might not be an A+ from a skill standpoint, but he's not an F either. More like a B or B-. When you combine that with his off the charts physical qualities, it will probably be enough to achieve considerable success at the next level.

I said it earlier in this thread, but I doubt that he has the football skill or athletic skill to become a jack-of-all-trades #1 like VJax, Demaryius, or Marshall. However, I think he compares pretty favorably to guys like Torrey Smith and Mike Wallace who have flawed football skills and even flawed physical skills, but have still been able to make a pretty significant impact because they have physical traits that are hard for defenders to cope with. I think Moncrief might even be better than both of those guys in terms of his overall athleticism/skill combo. So while he doesn't warrant the Demaryius comparisons, he could still end up giving you a nice return on your investment for the late 1st-early 2nd round rookie pick he's likely to cost.
Nice post.He can't work all over the field, a deep threat only. He doesn't look interested in contact to me. He dances around when it's time to block and he seems to curl up before any hit or just run out of bounds. Maybe that's not much of a knock for a WR, but it turned me off. At best he's Robert Meachem in his early Saints days. Another bigger WR that plays small. His athleticism is worth being in the league. I think he's going to be a let down in the long-run. Maybe he'll be Josh Gordon/Cordarrelle Patterson-like where I underrate his athleticism and he's catching 80 yard slants for a TD every week while I'm here saying 'I don't get it' like a idiot.
Sounds like you two are describing Kelvin Benjamin but with less opportunity so far.
I guess

T.Y. Hilton - WR - Colts

Mike Chappell of RTV6 Indianapolis is "convinced" T.Y. Hilton (hamstring) will not play Week 16 against the Cowboys.

Chappell has been covering the Colts for 30 years. His opinion is worthy of taking note. Hilton hasn't practiced at all this week and wasn't present again Friday. If he sits, Donte Moncrief should see a major boost in snaps. With Reggie Wayne and Hakeem Nicks lacking any semblance of separation skills, Moncrief and Coby Fleener could hog targets against the Cowboys' weak pass defense.

I didn't start Moncrief last week, but I believe now is the time if there ever is one this year.

agree I am starting him

Yep. Drop Charles Johnson and pick up Moncrief for the championship game? Or grab Harry Douglas? Argh. Decisions, decisions. My WR2 situation in my 14-team league is atrocious.

Moncrief regardless of where he plays could break a long one, especially against the Cowboys. If he can 7-10 passes his way, this would be a real reward for those who have kept him on their bench.

Debating whether to bench Matthews for Moncrief if in fact TY is out.

While Matthews plays Washington's very generous secondary this week, he still has Sanchez back there. As opposed to Moncrief who has a monster QB like Luck slinging it to him.

Ugh, I always screw this up -- almost wish TY wouldve just stayed healthy ...

Moncrief is a scary start in the super bowl, with or without Hilton. We just have no data on what the Colts will do without Hilton.

As a poster said above, who will get the start, Moncrief or Nicks?

My assumption is that Moncrief would be the only deep threat the Colts have left, so the bigplay factor would be there in spades. But would he become a highly targeted receiver? I just don't know that.

Scary start for the super bowl and I honestly don't know what to do.

Just to give folks an idea of how another person views the situation - if T.Y. is out, I will play Moncrief. If T.Y. plays, I will play Sammy Watkins over Moncrief.

Watch him drop 150 and 2TD. The upside and targets should be there. Indy has a crappy run game remember. Risky yes... I'm an underdog, If TY sits, he's in.

Luck averages 38.5 passes per game. If Hilton is out, there is a high probability that Moncrief sees 10 plus targets. The only time this year Moncrief has seen more than 5 targets was the PIT game where he went 12 targets/7 rec/113 yards and a score.

So, my back of the envelope analysis is that if Hilton is out, there is a solid probability that Moncrief goes 100 yards/1td. I'd start him as a #3 WR with #2 upside.

Today is the day that Donte Moncrief wins FF Championships for owners and will always remembered for his performance on this day.

30 years from now Donte Moncrief will do something to make the news and I'll look over at my son and say you see that man right there son? He won me my dynasty championship 30 years ago.

My son who's about to turn 3 and has signs of my sense of humor will probably look back at me and say "ya dad thats the last time you won a championship in FF".

:lmao:

I can't start him with 3 WR1's that I know will get plenty of targets and redzone targets too.

Next year will be the year

this is gonna go down as my most infuriating play of the year. coulda played a variety of mediocre guys and gotten 6 standard pts and been fine.

He's a big play threat, so I wouldn't call this one until the whistle blows. He could easily snag a garbage time bomb or two before this is all over.
