Doubleheader Scheduling (1 Viewer)

Big DT

Footballguy
I am in a 12 team league and one of the owners is proposing to do go to a doubleheader format for the entire season. Can anyone shed some light into this format?

Do it, in a heartbeat. We passed the rule and NOONE wants to go back to single games.

You can start different lineups the same week and have a real nice schedule. We have doubleheaders and 12 teams.

3 divisions of 4

Play your division teams 3 games each

other division teams 2 each.

First game of the season is a single game, rest is doubleheaders.

13 week schedule

14-16 playoffs

you'll love it.

We have been doing doubleheaders for 10+ years now and it works out pretty well.

Basically the above post is correct, it reduces but does not eliminate, the "bad beat" factor. The times where you are one of the higher scoring teams of the week but lost because you happened to be playing the highest scoring team that particular week.

Double headers reduce that although you do the run the risk of getting screwed if you were 3rd highest scorer and just happened to play #1 and #2.

On the flip side, if you have a few real bad weeks you easily could go 0-4 or 0-6 real quick.

When the season ends though, you will see that the teams with the highest scores usually end up in the same or near the same order in the head to head standings.

*We did have one season where the 3rd highest scorer missed the playoffs based on head to head record in a 12 team league. Top 6 make the playoffs and he finished 7th. (This was a fluke and has never happened again.)

You could protect against this as well with any head to head league, if you make the top 5 head to head records are in the playoffs and the 6th team is the one with the highest remaining overall scoring team.

ETA- I forgot to add its, also more fun with doubleheaders talking smack to 2 teams each week than just one. (In our league you can only start 1 lineup for both games though.)
