Dr. Gobbler welched out on his bet from year ago in this thread (1 Viewer)

Assuming there's no Howard deal, what is the current Lakers lineup?1. Paul2. Kobe3. World Peace4. ?5. BynumThat's a great backcourt, but...And what kind of a bench do we have left?
It's a skeleton roster now, no size, no depth. They have to make more moves if all they got back for Gasol and Odom is Paul. The question is, is it just bargain basement clowns, can they convince people to sacrifice money for a shot at a ring or do they really have a deal for Howard lined up. I assume Howard comes with Turkoglu, but he's not a 4 either, so they're looking at a scrap heap PF most likely.Me no likey unless they land Howard or Bynum has made a deal with the devil protecting his fragile connective tissue.

I guess this is really happening, the Kaminetzky clowns are saying it's a done deal. They're also saying they think there's more to come, whatever that means.I feel faint.
Gotta be more to come. Lakers sending 27.6M out, and Paul only makes 16.4M.

Groovus is kind of a Debby Downer.
I call it realism. Paul is great, but still they've gotten smaller and with even less depth on a team who's bench amounted to one guy (that they just dealt).Put it this way. As it stands now, the Lakers' "big 3" isn't anywhere near as good as Miami's, and the rest of the Laker roster is marginally better at best, maybe actually worse now that Miami has Battier. And you're now banking on the health of Bynum and Paul with zero behind them. How happy should I be?

I guess the good news is I don't have to give my Bynum jersey to Goodwill. Yet. See, I'm not such a downer!

And yes, I do actually have a Bynum jersey. :bag:

I see you in the ESPN chat TGunz!

Ask Kaminetzky what he thinks they'll do to fill out the roster if they don't make any more deals.

Right now the Christmas game will feature Kobe and Paul in the backcourt, Barnes at the small forward, World Peace as the power forward and Caracter as the center.

Artest at the 4? :lmao:The Lakers's starting 4 isn't on the roster yet. Maybe they'll pick up Humphries and convince him to get back with Kim so we still have the Kardashian base covered.

Comment From tommyGunZ Andy: Lakers sending 27.6M out, only taking back 16.4M (Paul). Gotta be more coming - who are you hearing?Andy Kamenetzky, ESPNLA.com: Tommy Gunz: Not necessarily, as is my understanding of the cap rules. The Hornets were under the cap. But I have to imagine the Lakers are taking back someone else just to fortify the frontcourt. They need bodies.

ESPNLandOLakers: Via @LarryCoon the Lakers would pick up two trade exceptions in the deal, which would give them more flexibility. HUGE factor. BK
That would make things interesting and make sense in lieu of losing all their depth up front.

Gonna miss watching LO in the Purple and Gold. Always loved his game.
:goodposting: Same with Pau.They played some of the best basketball I ever saw during that stretch when Pau first arrived. Didn't hold up against the Celtics in the finals, but still.

Problem is you have to actually make trades to use the trade exceptions. Meaning someone needs to want something the Lakers have to make a deal. Maybe just a salary dump would do it? The Lakers still have a $5+M exception for Vujasuck too.

Laker fans-please post your favorite memories of Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom as Lakers.

For me: with Gasol, it's that basket and one against the Celtics in game 7- I think it cut the lead to 2 points or 1. I still remember that crazy look on Pau's face as he screamed his triumph.

With Lamar, there are lots of moments in my mind. There was a regular season game in which he dribbled the ball down the entire length of the court and took it to the hole. For some reason that play sticks with me.

Knicks looking to give Ronny Turiaf away. Wouldn't be opposed to picking him up.

The only worthwhile exception was the $7.4M Battier one the Rockets have/had. All the others between the Rockets & Hornets were $1.2M or less.If all the Lakers got out of this deal is Paul I'm going to be unhappy.

My understanding is, it wouldn't be that the Lakers would be getting existing exceptions back, but a new one (or two) would be created to make up the difference in salaries.Still, I hope they ultimately get Okafor in the deal.

Ahh gotcha. How much of an exception do the get for the roughly $11M difference in salaries for this deal? Can you add exceptions together or do they have to be used on separate deals/players?

Paul was injured in 2009, then in 2010/2011 he has the worst numbers of his career...I love the guy but is this really gonna work? Is this more about dismantling what Phil Jackson put together? I still have not gotten use to Mike Brown as the head coach.

WojYahooNBA Adrian WojnarowskiNBA owners have pushed commissioner David Stern to kill the deal sending Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell Y! Sports.
ESPNSteinLine Marc SteinESPN CP3 trade latest: Trade with Lakers will NOT go through Friday and Chris Paul is expected in Hornets camp, according to sources
ESPNSteinLine Marc SteinIt was not immediately clear, sources said, if three-way trade involving Hornets, Lakers and Rockets is merely snagged or in jeopardy
Hold on, folks...

jmon may have a heart attack with all this

I can see overruling a deal like this if it seems lopsided. But what is in effect Gasol and Odom for Paul is not a lopsided deal IMO. If the NBA owners are complaining simply because they don't want to do anything which might benefit the Lakers, then #### them. That's collusion and it's not right.

Why is it collusion for the collective ownership of the Hornets to make a decision? The GM never has final say on any NBA team.

Would love for NO to be able to keep Paul -- he's the face of our franchise.Having said that, MOP brings up something important: the Lakers may dodge a bullet by having the Paul trade overturned. Seems this guy is going to miss 30+ games a year for the rest of his career. Fairly close to damaged goods. Probably worth the medical risk in some ways for LA ... but not a slam-dunk "Championship!" move by any means.

Because the collective ownership of the Hornets also owns the teams they are competing against? It's a clear conflict of interest.

I'd love to debate this but I probably should only do it in the main NBA thread.

I guessed I picked the wrong time to leave the house for 3 hours.

W...T...F

The league might have just saved us. I got this cocaine feeling again. Upset, happy, pissed, stunned, thankful, confused.

Whether they saved us or not is irrelevant. It's still bull####.
