I have to admit, this is a just criticism. The Lakers were having great success with Bynum and Gasol. But in the last few minutes with Williams red hot, Kobe tried to match him, and he really did hog the ball down the stretch. And yes, he does that too much.

The problem is defense. Particularly the old PG who you don't want to retire.

It's just pathetic. I didn't think it'd be possible, but Aaron Brooks is probably a significant upgrade at this point - guys in L.A. radio have just started talking about him. Would you rather have him as a F.A. (assuming he'd sign for the peanuts which the Lakers can offer) or spend more resources to get a guy like Sessions? Not making some kind of move to shore up the PG spot would tell me the Lakers aren't serious about winning this year.

Agree completely. Wish I knew what the Cavs wanted for Sessions. I've always been impressed with his game. I can't imagine Fish would put up a stink. He's such a smart guy that he has to be aware that he's probably the worst starting G in pro hoops.

He's an RFA, surely the Suns would match a low offer. Sessions would be a poor fit because he can't shoot or play off ball effectively.

Unless he is starting, no, but hes probably only getting a one year deal this year and it'll only be for about 30 games at most. The difference between a minimum contract for one year (lets just assume $1m) and a $5m contract is about $1.5m for this year and the difference between a minimum and the $2.5m contract that NY is talking about is $0.5m. If he were to go to a team like the Lakers or Clips and play well through the playoffs and behaves himself he is probably looking at a $30-35m contract over 4 years in the offseason. The difference in his contract this year is peanuts compared to what he could make next year.

If you're wondering how the Lakers are 17-12 despite having three of the best players in the league, here's your answer. The chart shows that the Lakers lead the league in BAD, with only four players having a PER above 12. Metta World Peace leads the way with 3,553 BAD points (fifth league-wide), but the point guards and frontcourt reserves are also major contributors. In their infinite wisdom, the league's coaches decided to punish Pau Gasol for this by keeping him off the Western Conference All-Star team.Orlando ranks second, with horrid point guard play the main reason, although the Magic have at least begun to remedy a bit of the problem: Larry Hughes, with a horrid minus-4.84 PER in 114 minutes, was one of the worst offenders but has been waived.Unfortunately for Dwight Howard, the grass on the other side of the fence may not be greener: New Jersey is right behind the Magic in this category, with its phenomenally bad small forward play the main culprit. The Nets' BAD from small forwards is worse than that of 18 other entire teams.In each case, this represents an opportunity too. The thing about Metta is that he remains a strong guy. Obviously he should not be shooting from outside; he's simply awful. But he could contribute to the offense by posting up. I don't know why they don't do that a few more times each game. With Bynum and Gasol, chances are Artest would always post up against a potential mismatch, someone smaller and weaker than himself. At the very least he should be able to draw a few fouls going to the basket.

That was one of the prettiest 36 point games I've seen in a while. The highlights for me were those shots he was taking left handed . It sucks that they can't get one of these street free agents on board. All the while McRoberts and his midlevel exception contribute nothing recently. It also sucks that Metta's contract got Ebanks sent to the D league. I'd rather see Ebanks getting the minutes Metta is wasting. They should have amnestied his ### back in December.

Metta World Peace has a PER of 6.26 and Derek Fisher has one of 8.33; both of them start. Players like this usually don't play at all, but for L.A. they're out there all the time -- only five players in the entire league have played at least 700 minutes with a PER below nine, and the Lakers employ two of them.
