Draft Day, racist movie? Plus other thoughts (1 Viewer)

guys, you can't bully me, especially on the internet. Maybe in person you could bully me if you knew karate or used steroids, but thats about it.
wut??? Trust me ...nobodies bullying you...you seem like a nice enough person ,morally upstanding and religious...but man do you set yourself up to be ridiculed with statements like the above ^^^. One thing ive learned being on the internet is you need thick skin ,especially if you`re going to put yourself out there like you do when you start threads about religion ,politics or race. Just think about that, you started a thread trying to say that the movie draft day could be racist...and you expect people to take you serious and give a a sreious debate? C`mon mannnnn

Well, yeah. We all know you have thick skin since you've somehow managed to survive all the horrific trials and tribulations that go along with being a white American.
Not saying I agree with what im about to say, maybe I do or maybe i am playing devils advocate.

Being a white american now isn't the same as being one say, 20 years ago.

Let me break it down in a common sense way of speaking so you understand

Before unions people were being taking advantaged of, after unions, it became fair. Soon enough unions are taking advantage with some of the crap that goes on. One extreme went to the next. I think we all agree that Unions for the most part, have too much power, and went corrupt. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/the-relentless-conservative/how-_b_913311.html read this if you disagree)

Now, lets relate that to racism, there use to be racism against black people, that was wrong and we tried to get rid of that, but going from one extreme (Racism against black) to another (allowing black people or anyone to be racist against white people) isn't right either. If that is indeed what is going on.
This premise implies that racism from whites towards blacks have stopped.

So we have johnjohn tackling white victimhood/reverse racism in here and Emminence has gay adoption on lockdown in another thread.

And it's only Monday.

JohnJohn, I do not believe anyone could find racism in the movie Draft Day. Subtle

or otherwise. I thought there were three football players not four. The "franchise" QB,

the DE with the one on field incident and the RB with the dad who played for Cleveland.

Nightmare can you tell me some movies you have seen that you consider racist or movies you think other people could interpret as racist.

Birth of a Nation, but I couldn't see what the big deal was.

Great example of a racist movie. Any other examples ? Anyone?

White Men Can't Jump?

Has anyone seen the movie white chicks ? What if it was called black chicks and two white guys used black makeup to portray stereotypes about black girls? That could be considered racist by some too.

I'm not sure what's going on in this thread, but I just want to add the previews looked god awful and I expect it to flop. Kevin Costner is box office Kryptonite.

"White Dog" was a film about a white dog who only attacked negroes.

This thread has really got me thinking about racism. Like the game of pool for example.

What color is the felt usually on a pool table? Green right, like the Earth. And what is the object of the game of pool? You use a stick to help the white ball knock all the colored balls off the table (Earth) into holes. And what color is the last ball you knock off the table (the 8 ball)? Black.

It is so obvious.

What's funny is I am basically their target audience and I wouldn't even consider watching this POS. I will read every pre-draft article and will watch every second of the draft that I can, but this still looks terrible to me.

These posts have nothing to do with reverse racism or white victimhood, please try to stay on topic.

Finally saw this wretched movie.

I'm not generally one to care too much about realism when watching movies, but this thing is insane.

This NFL GM trades 3 1sts for a guy that he apparently doesn't know anything about. Hell, even though he originally had the 7th pick, he didn't even know who had the 5th pick (had to ask as he was working up the miracle JAX deal).

And that JAX GM? Wow. Apparently, he'd never heard of the guy either. He was so terrified, I think he pissed himself.

Best QB prospect since Luck comes along, and in a span of 8 hours, one GM trades 3 1st's to get him without knowing anything about him and another trades 3 2nd's because he doesn't know anything about him.

I won't even get started on the SEA GM.

It was also funny at one point, Costner barks at somebody with a "can't you see how hard I'm working here?" when he'd literally just been milling through the complex aimlessly for hours.....a few hours for the damn NFL draft. His only work was to break up his scouts just farting around (didn't really give them anything better to do), when they should've been in scramble mode because, you know, they just traded 3 1sts to draft a guy they didn't know anything about.

This movie is an embarrassment to the NFL.

Picture this, the movie is about a bunch of white guys with great character and the one guy that should be the best player (who is black) is a poor character guy that is really just a crappy person, would that movie be racist towards black people?

In actuality though, the movie is set up the exact opposite way, and I bet most people don't consider it racist.
Finally saw this movie, and your premise is flawed. Draft Day is not a movie about a bunch of black guys with great character. It's primarily about a bunch of white people with great character. In any event, your take fails to take into account the following data points:1) The hero of the movie is white.

2) The hero has a super smart, supportive and high quality girlfriend who is supporting him. She's white.

3) To the extent that there is a "bad guy" or protagonist in this movie, it's Seattle management. One white guy, and one black guy. So the only black guy among the owner/management group in the movie is a bad guy.

4) Of the three draft prospects featured prominently in the movie, one has an arrest record - assault after beating up a guy and putting him in the hospital. He's black.

5) Of the three draft prospects featured prominently in the movie, only one got flagged for excessive celebration and then ejected from the game after an altercation with the official. He's black. He also carries a phone that looks like brass knuckles.

6) You are correct that the golden boy with questionable character is white. But the person he is most compared against isn't either of the two other draft prospects. It's the Browns current QB, an honest, hard-working family man, who is white. Remember the $100 bill story that draws the comparison between the two, in terms of character?

So I'd say no, not racist.
