Draft Day "Regerts", 2025 edition (1 Viewer)

Based on my search results, this will be the fifth consecutive year we've had this thread. @Hot Sauce Guy came up with it back in 2021, and I picked up the baton ever since (and @Leroy Hoard came up with the "regerts" joke

Reminder: I view this thread as a good way to look back on your mistakes from previous drafts, either this year or in year's past, as you prepare for the next one. I always find that reviewing my mistakes (as well as others') helps clarify my thinking going forward. Also, most of my drafts take place much closer to the start of the season, so I like hearing about what other people are seeing. But feel free to answer it however you want.

Hit me.

Drafted a ROC last night. Tried to stick to VBD as much as possible and stay flexible. 3RR, drafted from 1.10

Jeanty fell to me at 10, 2.03 London. Was fully planning on taking a RB in the 3rd then hoping for a Worthy/Jamo 4-5 turn.

Went according to plan, but then McBride fell to me at 3.03, and I deviated. Which is fine - best value on the board, he usually goes late 2nd.

But then 4/5 came and I didn’t make the adjustment to target a 4th round RB. I went Worthy/Jamo as planned. The one time I forgot to check every position before picking, too. That was my advice from last year.

I spent the rest of the draft missing RBs. So behind Jeanty I now have the inglorious RB room of ETN, Ekeler, Spears, Wright (who’s injury was reported right after the draft), Woody Marks, Jordan James, and Roschon Johnson.

It’s ugly. I still like my team a lot for the values I did land, but I coulda popped Hendo 4.10, still got Jamo, and loaded up on value WR later. And the real kicker is I never take TE early, especially in a non-TEP format.

I also took Mahomes in 6.10, and never take QB that early. That one stung - a bunch of teams needed QBs and only 2 were picked between Mahomes and my next pick, so I could have taken Tracy ~> Nix, and ended up Mahomes ~> Addison and still had only 1 RB through 7 rounds.

I have 1 more ROC league coming up and will take this lesson to heart. It’s a big one.

The lesson: “It’s great to have a plan. It’s even better to be flexible enough to adjust your plan (McBride/Mahomes) - but if you adjust the plan, keep adjusting. Don’t just fall back to the original plan.”

— me, just now.

My biggest draft of the year so far was just 8 days ago but feels like it was more like 8 months ago.

Achane in round one and now concerned, heavily, about his calf. If he's fine this is not a big deal but this is a national contest and in the end if I advance I'll face other teams who got him a lot cheaper then I did and will be able to pair him with high first round picks in many cases.

I grabbed Jaylen Wright to back him in up, was a late round 13 pick, but someone else took Gordon and now I'm not sure I even have the backup since last I heard Wright was hurt in addition to sucking.

Took the injury discount on Godwin and thought it was a brilliantly orchestrated strategy when I landed Jalen McMillian in the teen rounds to help cover for him.

Guess those can mainly be chalked up to injuries but I've been drafting since January and if I had to say my two biggest non-injury regrets would be it would be taking DJ Moore in round 3 after they hired Ben Johnson but before they drafted Burden and Loveland and in that same draft taking Rashee Rice in round 4.

Only 1 draft so far - Shark Pool FBG Home League #3

From the 12 spot, I wanted Dak Prescott (yeah, I am high on him this year). After doing many stupid useless mocks, I was getting him regularly at the 9/10 turn. I decide to risk it, because people weren't jumping on QB's (Daniels went in the 5th). I opted for WR's Golden and Addison at the 7/8 turn, then BAM, Dak goes 2 picks later, to a guy who had just drafted Baker Mayfield 5 picks before! I got so worked up that I didn't take a QB at the 9/10 turn either, and instead went with 2 RB's (Charbonnet & Ford). Then I went completely insane and started hoarding QB's. I took Jared Goff, Caleb Williams, and JJ McCarthy with 3 of my next 4 picks, with one-eyed Najee sprinkled in. Now I get to play QB carousel, and secretly hope other QB's get hurt.

You say that now but in 4 weeks he might be the starting RB for the 49ers and ranked as RB1 by every fantasy site.
Mired in an ugly committee with Guerendo, James, and a street FA we’ve never heard of who played HS football but has been working at the dairy freeze for the last 2 years.
Maybe but also there's one thing that seems true year in and year out, the 49ers skill players get hurt a lot.

So you’re saying BRob will get hurt. Noted.
;)

IDK Shanahan seems to like to take a next man up approach and feeds that guy. I also think Robinson is simply a better football player than Guerendo and the others.

Drafting Guerendo to handcuff CMC in the 10th round. Got JCM in the 15th, so at least I won there.
I didn’t have CMC In a league, but I had Guerendo. I, genius FF mind, drafted James in the 4th to have the 49ers RB room behind CMC locked down.
:sadbanana:

Also I, FF genius, had Mixon (no injury yet reported) and Pierce rostered. So brilliant FF person I am, I smartly drafted Woody Marks, only to watch them sign Chubb.
:sadbanana:

The latter is still TBD as Marks has looked good and reportedly Chubb has not, but still - I coulda had Monangai or TeSlaa with that pick. If Mark’s hits this one won’t hurt.

In my main keeper league, I had three “my guys”

Egbuka
Warren
Pearsall

Landed the first two, but just missed out on Pearsall by like 2-3 picks. Feel like that one is really going to sting.

Sometimes really weird things happen in fantasy football.

I missed the news about Richardson/ D.Jones and burned a mid round pick on him the day after the news broke.

In the 18th round of same draft and wouldn’t have minded him as a bench stash but I coulda had Egbuka.

The only mitigating circumstance is that you can really only start 2WRs so he’s gonna have to smash hard for it really hurt so I guess that’s what I’m telling myself 🤣

Super flex keep 3 I have Hurts and T Law

I was considering taking JCM in the 5th of a rookie draft, but decided "I've already taken him in 2 leagues, let's diversify and take Damien Martinez." I would take that one back 😅

For the last three years I've had to reconcile that I'm just not as good at auctions as I am at snakes.

I tend to play things too conservative, and end up with a nice solid floor.

For everyone else to p1ss on.

No more!

I am strongly thinking about just paying up for Bijan and CeeDee, and pushing studs n' scrubs to the extreme.

Or else I'm gonna have them same regerts.

In A SF best ball dynasty league I traded away Warren for Fields and Likely. At the time of the trade I thought I won big time…now I’m sure I’ll regret moving Warren. He has been so impressive.

I spent all my money on Lamb, Puka, Bijan and Barkley last year in superflex auction and things turned out okay.
