Drafting with guppies - Part 2 (1 Viewer)

Ok - I fully expect to get crap thrown my way for last year's thread/team. Funny thing is I still made the playoffs last year in that league and looking back, I had a pretty solid team with Brees; Morris; Forte; Demaryus Thomas; Jordy Nelson; Gates etc....I understand all of you had a blast poking fun at me for it.

So let's have some more fun

I just got done with the draft in that same league for this year....as always, which was my point BTW in last year's thread, picks were coming in from left field making decisions more difficult than normal because you hope the value you do pick up works out for you but your head is spinning when the Niners fan (that same lady from last year) goes and picks Collin Kapernick with the 1.03 pick....not lying it happened. Jamaal Charles fell all the way to 1.09....was so hoping he would fall to me. One player drafted both Percy Harvin and Dennis Pitta (not lying again)....

Anyways, here is what I landed up with this year, having got the 1.11 pick in the draft. . Please note we start 1 QB (6 pts passing TDs); 2 WRs; 2 RBs; 1 WR/RB; 1 TE; DEF/ST; K and have 17 total roster spots. Not sure if this is possible for you to view but here is the link to the draft results

Unbelievable but Gronk fell to the 5th (5.11) round to me....could not resist it anymore. I had my fingers and toes crossed with 5 picks to go to me ... luckily the guy 2 spots before me is a Cowboys fan so he picked Witten and the guy before me picked Antonio Brown but he did say later he was very close to picking Gronk and definitely would have on the way back in the 6th round. Yes, this is the craziness that ensues in the drafts with guppies.

Yahoo gave me a A- for the draft.,...

Not that big a money league - a lot of work mates and friends .... but as much as I enjoy playing with them since I know them all, I always leave the draft with a headache....

I know someone was asking earlier today on some common themes to take away in such drafts....to me it is always that the QBs will go flying off the board. So you need to either decide to pick Peyton Manning in the late 2nd or Matt Ryan in the early 4th or just let them reach for it and you take the valiue that falls at RB and WR and wait to take your QB late but get some form of QBBC that can be enough to win given the strength of your team should be at other positions.

In this draft the QBs went like this:

Kapernick (1.03)

Brees (2.06)

Rodgers (2.09)

Peyton (3.01)

Tom Brady (3.09)

Cam (4.01)

Matt Ryan (4.03)

Stafford (5.08)

Russell Wilson (6.08)

Romo (6.09) => BACK UP by the team that drafted Rodgers 2.09

RG3 (6.11)

Luck (7.03) => BACK UP by the team that drafted Kap 1.03

Eli (8.7)

I thought hard about taking Ryan with my 4th round pick instead of Amendola but decided that Amendola had too much upside to take a QB there....so then I decided to target Romo or Luck or RG3 and of course, 2 of them got drafted by teams that burnt their 1st and 2nd round picks on Kap and Rodgers. So moral of the story is - either take the QB early in these guppy league drafts or wait and go QBBC later or if you are lucky, get Romo or Luck as your starter.

Some shark pool residents are not aware of it yet, but tomorrow morning will essentially be akin to Xmas morning to them. Thank you Sweetness, this really is the gift that keeps on giving.

I have the 11th in a draft with a similar structure (2RBs, 2 WRs, 1 Flex). Ideally, if you can get 3 starting RBs you're always golden. What were the RBs available at the 3/4 turn? Personally, I think there is a lot of WR value late, but barely any at RB. At least thats what I've been seeing in mocks. Anyways, since my league has a few people who's picks I can never understand, what RBs fell to that 3/4 turn and why didn't you take one?

Just like all movie sequels, this will be a let down. Nothing could replicate the awesomeness of last years thread.

Agree that qb Flys off the board. Guppies don't know who Doug Martin is and they would rather have a name player like Manning or Rodgers so they can be excited when they tell someone about their team. I get criticized every year for having a crappy qb, but I make the playoffs 90% of the time and they think it's 100% luck still.

I print my league a FBG vbd spreadsheet every year. And even when you lead a Guppie to water they still spit it out.

But thanks to the h2h match-up system and a playoff system even being the best team doesn't mean you win. So they keep not believing.

I wouldnt say its terrible but its not very good either. I wouldnt wanna rely on those QBs, he may have no TE for a few weeks, Jordy Nelson is hurt too.

say what now,

where can i sign up for a league that I can get julio in the 3rd, johnson in the 4th and bush in the 5th..

some of the teams in your league must be guppie central

I might dump Bush or Freeman/Cutler and go after a guy like Jordan Cameron, he should be available in a league like this, or even Sudfeld to cover the first few weeks as both your TE's are currently injured. I would think you could then pick Bush back up once Gronk is playing, but Cameron may be better than Myers anyway.

Wish I could go in and see the rosters and FA.

Good luck Sweetness.

I like the team with Martin and Rodgers better. Though I do see the stupidity with those teams who drafted Kaep and Rodgers in the 1st 2nd rounds then turn around and take Luck and Romo in the 6th-7th rounds.

To each one their own. Maybe you like Lamar Miller as your RB2 (with no RB3 on the team); Ed Dickson as your TE1 and no real WR2 or WR3.

Both Sudfied and Cameron are gone....only because some owners quit the draft after 12 picks or so and yahoo auto picked those players for them. Pettigrew is available. I am not worried about TE....6 teams make the playoffs. I should get in and Gronk should be ready at some point in the reg season

I do have RB and WR depth that I can play if Nelson takes a game or two off. And there are plenty of soft match ups with those QBs to play QBBC and get good production all year.

Yeah, Im gonna bet some random moron he finishes better than some other random moron based on their draft results.

The difference between Rodgers and Vick will more than make up for the difference in RB2 . He has no TE, neither do you for a few weeks.

I print my league a FBG vbd spreadsheet every year. And even when you lead a Guppie to water they still spit it out.
Why do you do this for them?
I'm a full service commissioner. Cook food, open your beer, print your spreadsheet, let you peek over my shoulder at the draft dominator when its your turn, answer your WDIS questions, wipe your butt, provide viagra when the whores come, pick you up, take you home, fix your teeth, balance your finances, have sex with your wife, etc.

I feel like commissioner is more than just running a fantasy football league.. it's about being a positive role model in people's entire lives. Providing for their every need.

I'm a Life Commissioner.

Here's what I can't figure out. Who were people taking? They weren't grabbing RBs, obviously. Not WRs either, given where you got Julio and Nelson. I assume QBs went fairly early, since you took Romo a little early at 65, but that still doesn't explain this.

Getting the thread back on track. One of the problems playing in such leagues is that some other owners land up with really strong teams too, especially when they are lucky to draw a pick early and then they get to exploit others mistakes.

For eg - last night the 1.01 owner lands up with following 6 picks as his top 6 - AP; Sproles; Peyton; Reggie Wayne; Welker; Mike Wallace

This happens because guppies take Colin Kapernick at 1.03 letting Peyton get back to the AP owner. Now this 1.01 owner is horrible himself - he drafted Harvin; Pitta and Danario although it says IR next to Pitta and Danario.... But getting those top 6 picks in a PPR and 6 pts passing TD league is just crap for the rest of us

Moral of story - when guppies make mistakes it helps other owners too

how did they exploit your mistake of ending up with crap QBs?

HOW DID YOU END UP WITH THOSE TERRIBLE QBS WHEN QB IS SO DEEP THIS YEAR? UNBELIEVABLE.
You must be blind since you cannot find the Caps lock key or the fact that I posted above where the QBs fell .... The guy who drafted Rodgers in 2nd round took Romo in 6th .... The lady that drafted Kap at 1.03 took Luck at 7.03.

Bump
